Bedömning: RTX 5080 SFF GPU med tveksamt värdeförslag

Asus har gjort ett intressant drag i år genom att utöka sin traditionellt mellanklassfokuserade Prime-serie till att omfatta flaggskeppet RTX 5080. Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition försöker vara ett kapabelt alternativ till Nvidias egen RTX 5080 Founders Edition.

Prime RTX 5080 OC har en minimalistisk men funktionell design som bara tar upp 2,5 kortplatser, vilket gör den idealisk för SFF-byggnationer (Small Form Factor).

När det gäller råprestanda levererar Prime RTX 5080 OC Edition en blygsam förbättring på 2-3% jämfört med RTX 5080 FE i både syntetiska benchmarks och verkliga spelscenarier.

Förbättringen jämfört med Radeon RX 7900 XTX är mer påtaglig, i storleksordningen 10-13 % beroende på riktmärke eller spel.

Prime RTX 5090 OC drar också nytta av Nvidias välrenommerade mjukvarustack, och kortet har fullt stöd för den senaste DLSS 4 multi-frame generation-funktionerna i Blackwell-arkitekturen.

Asus har integrerat en effektiv kylningslösning för Prime RTX 5080 OC som håller kortets värme- och ljudnivå på en rimlig nivå med tanke på den prestanda som erbjuds.

Även om du inte kan gå fel med Prime RTX 5080 OC, finns det några varningar att vara medveten om. Strömförbrukningen för det här kortet under spel kan vara något högre jämfört med RTX 5080 FE, utan några märkbara vinster i bildrutor.

Det 16 GB GDDR7 VRAM, även om det är mycket snabbare än förra årets GDDR6X-implementering, kan snabbt bli en flaskhals i vissa krävande titlar, även om detta gäller alla RTX 5080 i allmänhet.

Även om RTX 5080 Founders Edition (FE) kan vara svår att få tag på, finns det ingen brist på AiB-partnerkort (Add-in Board) på marknaden. Asus erbjuder GPU:er i RTX 50-serien under kategorierna ROG, TUF Gaming och Prime.

Prime-serien är utformad för PC-byggen med liten formfaktor (SFF). Den introducerades först med RTX 40 Series-serien men var endast begränsad till RTX 4060 och RTX 4070 GPU: er och deras revideringar. I år har Asus utökat Prime-serien till att omfatta RTX 5080.

En snabb genomgång av Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition

Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC mäter 304 x 126 x 50 mm och är något tjockare än RTX 5080 FE. Det är dock fortfarande ett SFF-kort som bara tar upp 2,5 kortplatser.

Frontkåpan är tillverkad av högkvalitativ plast, även om vi skulle ha velat att den var mer robust, och den kompletteras av en bakplatta i metall.

Logotyperna "GeForce RTX" och "PRIME" visas tydligt på den främre kåpan, men det finns ingen RGB av något slag runt dessa.

Prime RTX 5080 OC erbjuder ett typiskt utbud av displaykontakter som de allra flesta GPU:er där ute. De tre DisplayPort-anslutningarna stöder nu äntligen DisplayPort 2.1b-standarden.

Till skillnad från TUF Gaming-serien som erbjuder 2x HDMI-utgångar, nöjer sig Prime RTX 5080 OC med bara en HDMI 2.1b-utgång.

En 12VHPWR-kontakt ser till att kortet får den ström som krävs. Asus skickar med en 12VHPWR till 3x 8-pins adapter för användning med nätaggregat som inte är ATX 3.x-kompatibla.

I likhet med andra Asus-kort lyser en LED-indikator bredvid 12VHPWR-kontakten rött för att indikera felaktig adapteranslutning eller otillräcklig strömförsörjning.

Prime RTX 5080 OC har en dual-BIOS-lägesbrytare som växlar mellan Performance- och Quiet-lägen. Vi använde prestandaläget för alla benchmarks och jämförde även fläktljudnivåerna mellan de två lägena.

Det finns ingen GPU-hållare med en integrerad skruvmejsel som vi ser i TUF Gaming-serien, troligen på grund av kortets kompakta formfaktor.

Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC är klassat för en standard boostklocka på 2 655 MHz, vilket är 38 MHz snabbare än Founders Edition med samma 360 W totala grafikeffekt (TGP). I Performance-läget kan kortet öka ytterligare upp till en topp på 2 685 MHz.

Det är möjligt att öka effektgränsen med ytterligare 11% för en maximal TGP på 400 W.

Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition presterar mer eller mindre på samma sätt som RTX 5080 FE i syntetiska benchmarks. De marginellt högre boostarna innebär endast en fördel på 2% i kumulativa 3DMark- och Unigine-tester.

Samtidigt lyckas Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 7900 XTX med en vinst på 4% jämfört med Prime RTX 5080 OC i 3DMark Fire Strike Graphics men får stryk i Port Royal och Speed Way-tester som involverar strålspårning.

Prestanda för strålspårning

RX 7900 XTX:s försprång i Alan Wake 2 raster kan inte föras vidare till strålspårningsinställningar, där det ligger 47 % efter Prime RTX 5080 OC i 4K.

I Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty har Prime RTX 5080 OC en enorm ledning på 58 % över RX 7900 XTX. Vinsterna som kommer från RTX 5080 FE är dock ganska små.

16 GB GDDR7 VRAM i RTX 5080 är 30% snabbare än GDDR6X-motsvarigheten i RTX 4080 Super. Detta kan dock visa sig vara en stor begränsning i vissa inställningar i moderna AAA-titlar.

Det är till exempel omöjligt att ens navigera i menyerna, än mindre spela spelet, i Indiana Jones and the Great Circle när full path tracing är aktiverad i 4K. Att aktivera DLSS och ramgenerering hjälper inte heller.

DLSS 4 generering av flera ramar

Endast en handfull titlar har för närvarande stöd för DLSS 4 multi-frame generation (MFG) direkt från start. Många andra spel som stöds kan dock använda DLSS 4 (för alla RTX GPU:er) och MFG (endast för Blackwell GPU:er) genom åsidosättningar i Nvidia-appen

Jämfört med Alan Wake 2 eller Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty visar Star Wars Outlaws 5-7% vinster på Prime RTX 5080 OC jämfört med RTX 5080 FE med DLSS och ramgenerering aktiverat.

Märkligt nog noterade vi ett avvikande resultat i Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty med MFG 2x aktiverat i 4K Ray Tracing Overdrive-förinställningen, där Prime RTX 5080 OC presterade 31 % långsammare än RTX 5080 FE.

Trots att vi dubbelkollade att inställningarna, drivrutinen och OS-versionen var identiska för båda testerna, hamnar Asus kort oväntat på efterkälken.

Utsläpp: Tolerabel värme- och ljudnivå

Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition har några knep i rockärmen för att hantera termiken. Det finns inget termiskt gränssnittsmaterial i flytande metall, men Asus säger att kortet använder en termokudde med fasbyte för bättre ledningsförmåga, i kombination med en ångkammare-heatskink-kombination.

Dessutom är den ventilerade bakplattan i metall utformad för att hjälpa till med bättre värmeavledning.

Stresstest

Ett kort stresstest med FurMark (1 280 x 720, ingen AA) visar att Prime RTX 5080 OC kan uppnå sin nominella boost på 2 685 MHz med en förbrukning på 360 W och en genomsnittlig kärntemperatur på 74,6 °C.

När vi stressar med Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty i 1080p Ultra-inställningar boostar Prime RTX 5080 OC ännu högre till upp till 2 880 MHz vid bara 303 W med 68 °C genomsnittlig temperatur.

Detta visar att Blackwell är ganska lik Ada när det gäller att opportunistiskt öka klockfrekvensen baserat på tillgängligt värme- och effektutrymme.

Prime RTX 5080 OC:s frontkåpa förblir ganska sval även under tung belastning, även om bakplattan når 62 °C och GPU-området kan nå 78 °C när omgivningstemperaturen är 23 °C

I standardfläktkurvan stannar fläktarna när de går på tomgång när kärntemperaturen är under 50 °C.

Vi registrerade en maximal ljudtrycksnivå (SPL) på 47,6 dB(A) under en FurMark-körning med 111% effektmål.

Energihantering: Välkomna effektivitetsvinster i spel jämfört med RX 7900 XTX

Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition visar något lägre strömförbrukning från väggen än RTX 5080 FE i FurMark (1 280 x 720, inga AA) trots att den är högre klockad.

Omvänt, medan strömförbrukningen för Cyberpunk 2077 1080p Ultra är praktiskt taget identisk mellan Prime RTX 5080 OC och RTX 5080 FE GPU, visar Asus-kortet 13% högre strömförbrukning jämfört med FE i The Witcher 3 vid 1080p Ultra.

Följaktligen är Prime GPU 4% mer energieffektivt än FE-kortet i Cyberpunk 2077 medan det senare visar 13% högre effektivitet i The Witcher 3.

Med detta sagt är Prime RTX 5080 OC hela 20% mer strömeffektivt i Witcher 3 än Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
