NucBox M3 efterträder förra årets NucBox M2 genom att byta ut den 11: e generationen Tiger Lake Intel Core H CPU för 12: e generationens Alder Lake-alternativ tillsammans med en något reviderad chassidesign. Vår specifika granskningsenhet är konfigurerad med Core i5-12450H, 32 GB RAM och 1 TB SSD för cirka $ 480 USD, men barebone-alternativ börjar på bara $ 370.

Alternativ till NucBox M3 inkluderar andra budgetorienterade minidatorer som Beelink SER5, Geekom A5ellerBMAX B7.

Fall

NucBox M3 är mindre än NucBox K3 Pro samtidigt som den är tyngre för en tätare känsla. Chassit består av metall för sidorna och plast för toppen och botten. Även om byggkvaliteten är solid och utan några märkbara defekter på vår enhet, gör plastens topp och botten att systemet känns billigt jämfört med Intel NUC-serien.

Undersidan har gummifötter och hål för VESA-montering (tillval)

Anslutningsmöjligheter

Portalternativen är hyfsade, men den enda USB-C-porten verkar ha problem med att mata ut video. Tillverkaren gör reklam för USB-C DisplayPort-kompatibilitet, men ingen av våra externa USB-C-skärmar fungerade. Thunderbolt stöds inte heller, sannolikt för att spara kostnader.

På baksidan: Nätadapter, 3,5 mm headset, 2x HDMI 2.0 (4K60), Gigabit RJ-45, USB-A 2.0, USB-A 3.2, USB-C (ingen PD)

Kommunikation

Modellen levereras utan stöd för Wi-Fi 6E, sannolikt för att spara kostnader. Wi-Fi 6-anslutningen är i övrigt stabil och tillförlitlig.

Prestanda

Villkor för testning

Vi ställde in Windows på prestandaläge innan vi körde riktmärkena nedan. Tillverkaren installerar ingen specialiserad programvara för att växla mellan modellspecifika funktioner.

Processor

Prestanda för flera trådar från vår Core i5-12450H är cirka 25 till 30 procent långsammare än Core i7-12650H som finns i NucBox K3 Pro. Underskottet är tillräckligt för att sätta vår CPU nacke mot nacke med Ryzen 5 5560U som är ett billigare och mer energieffektivt alternativ. Core i5-12450H utmärker sig istället med enkel trådprestanda där den är inom slående avstånd med Core i7-13700H.

Buller från systemet

Fläktljud är förmodligen den värsta aspekten av NucBox M3. Fläkten pulserar ofta och mycket oftare än på de flesta andra minidatorer. Till exempel kunde fläkten kortvarigt öka till 39 dB(A) vid start av applikationer eller till och med utan anledning vid webbsurfning innan den återgick till det normala. Att byta till en CPU i U-serien istället för H-serien skulle sannolikt ha löst detta irriterande problem.

Temperatur

AC-adaptern kan nå över 35 C vid krävande belastningar

Frisk luft kommer in från sidorna av enheten istället för uppifrån som på de senaste modellerna Beelink SER5. Det är därför säkert att placera föremål ovanpå enheten så länge sidorna och baksidan har gott om utrymme för luftflöde.

Stresstest

När Prime95 kördes ökade processorn till 2,6 GHz och 45 W i endast ca 10 sekunder innan den sjönk och stabiliserades på 1,8 GHz och 35 W för att hålla en rimlig kärntemperatur på 75 C. Maximal Turbo Boost-potential är därför kortlivad på NucBox M3. Upprepa samma test på NucBox K3 Pro med den snabbare Core i7-12650H skulle resultera i både högre klockfrekvenser och varmare kärntemperaturer som närmar sig 84 C.

Energiförvaltning

Strömförbrukning

Det är ingen hemlighet att Intels 12:e generationens processorer kan vara väldigt strömkrävande, särskilt de från Core-H-familjen. Core i5-12450H är inte annorlunda eftersom den är nästan lika krävande som Ryzen 7 5800H i Geekom A5 även om AMD-processorn erbjuder snabbare multi-thread-prestanda. Ännu värre är att vårt system slutför CineBench R15 xT på ungefär samma tid som Ryzen 5 5560U i Beelink SER5 men det förbrukar nästan 80 procent mer ström för att göra det.

Strömförbrukningen vid körning av GPU-tunga applikationer som spel sätter inte heller vårt GMK-system i ett gynnsamt ljus. Att köra Witcher 3 skulle kräva nästan 60 procent mer ström än på Beelink SER5 även om grafikprestandan är liknande mellan de två modellerna.

Förbrukningen steg till 74 W när Prime95-stressen initierades för att sedan sjunka och stabiliseras på 61 W några sekunder senare

I recension: GMKtec NucBox M3. Testenhet tillhandahållen av GMK

En viktig anledning till att använda en Core H-baserad mini-PC istället för Core U eller Ryzen U är för den snabbare prestandan. Tyvärr erbjuder Core i5-12450H inte tillräckligt mycket jämfört med processorer i U-serien för att motivera den ökade strömförbrukningen och fläktljudet. NucBox M3 är märkbart mer högljudd än U-seriens alternativ som Beelink SER5 utan att ge några betydande fördelar när det gäller flertrådsprestanda eller grafikprestanda. Lägg till det faktum att de flesta U-seriens minidatorer är billigare än NucBox M3 och det blir svårare att rekommendera modellen.

NucBox M3 körs högre och varmare än de flesta andra minidatorer med U-seriens processorer utan att erbjuda så mycket bättre prestanda för att kompensera.

Höjdpunkterna i NucBox M3 inkluderar lättillgängliga interndelar och gott om portalternativ. Dessa höjdpunkter delas dock över de flesta minidatorer och de kan därför inte betraktas som stora fördelar.
