What Gigabyte is offering here is an uber-thin portable gaming device, but this compactness comes at the price of excessive overheating, leading to lots of whirring fans and a noise like a hairdryer. The laptop performs excellently and can deal with any game, but this is not enough to overcome slight flaws in design.

If you're after a slick, thin, large and powerful gaming laptop that's not too over the top in the looks department, Gigabyte's P37X is the machine for you, even though it's pretty pricey and chomps through battery life faster than you'll be able to finish your games. Still, with plenty of firepower, you'll be conquering your favourite games as long as there's a power plug handy.

The Gigabyte P37X promises a system that can play demanding PC games on the go, and mostly delivers. While I was reviewing the P37X, I had to grapple with a lot of small irritants: an off-center keyboard, unimpressive speakers, a monitor that should have been colorful and a noisy fan. However, this system delivers excellent frame rates and performance, and ultimately, these are more important factors.

Overall, if you're willing to make the sacrifices in portability that using a 17-inch laptop entails, there's a whole lot to like about the P37X. The screen is superb for gaming and multimedia editing alike, and its size makes all of those tasks more enjoyable. The keyboard is comfortable, the processor and GPU can handle the most demanding apps and games, and the battery life is better than it should be for a gaming laptop.

The P37X is simultaneously massive yet tiny. In terms of the length and width, it’s a whopper thanks to the large 17.3 inch display, yet it measures a tiny 22.5mm deep. Most gaming laptops with a screen of this size tip the scales well in excess of three or four kilograms, but Gigabyte has trimmed the fat to lower the weight to just 2.7kg (add another hundred grams if you included the optical drive). This makes it surprisingly portable for such a behemoth, proving that road warriors needn’t totally compromise mobility for performance.

The P37X is Gigabyte's most ambitious gaming laptop to date. Cramming a quad-core Intel processor and Nvidia's fastest mobile GPU into a chassis that's less than 23mm thick is no small feat, yet Gigabyte has still found room for 16GB of memory, two SSDs, a hard disk and an optical drive. An impressive array of hardware for a thin gaming laptop, but inevitable compromises have been made.

Starting with the build quality of the P37X we have a system which immediately feels well built as we unbox it. The metal chassis feels solid and we like the minimal branding and curved edges. The parts used by Gigabyte for the key components are all from quality brands and little touches like adding in an ambient light sensor for the keyboard LEDs help elevate this aspect to a higher level.

The fiddly-feeling mousepad is about the only disappointment to note. Well, that and the predictably limited battery life. Otherwise the Gigabyte P37X V3 delivers serious gaming performance and power without any of the extra weight or potentially embarrassing styling you get on some laptops that fly the gaming banner proudly.

Without the kind of powerful, high-end components that come with a high-end gaming laptop like the P37X, you won't be able to play at full resolution or enjoy most up-to-date gaming titles with a constant 60 fps frame rate. It's these high-end components that quickly suck a laptop battery dry, plus they output considerable heat that requires heavy-duty cooling, not to mention driving up the cost.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M: Ett grafikkort i prestandaklassen för stora bärbara datorer. 900M-serien bygger på Nvidias Maxwellarkitektur och 980M använder kretsen GM204. 

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
