It has all the necessary features needed to be a decent mid-range smartphone, including a decent display with a high refresh rate, decent performance, decent rear camera performance, battery and even charging. It even has 5G connectivity, which is missed out on a lot of budget phones. Honor has indeed managed to deliver a decent mid-range smartphone but its price tag definitely doesn’t fall in the budget category. It’s not significantly high, but it’s not budget either. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 offers much better specs than this while also offering a lower price tag.

Of course, it is not the best-performing phone and probably not the best option for gamers since we’ve got speed monsters like the iQOO Neo 7 Pro and POCO F5 in this price range.

That said, Honor’s software support commitment isn’t the best right now. The biggest issue with the Honor 90 5G, however, is the camera. Its iffy performance in low light leaves you wanting more, and more is what you get with rivals like the OnePlus Nord 3 and Pixel 7a. But then, the smartphone does offer good battery life with a decent 66W charging speed to boot. After spending several weeks with the phone, I’m pleased to say that I’m genuinely impressed with what Honor has been able to achieve here. Not only is the base model slightly cheaper than the starting price of its predecessor, but it now offers one of the best viewing experiences you can find at this end of the market. Whether it’s used for scrolling through social media, reading an e-book or catching up on the latest TV shows, the screen can handle it all brilliantly, so if that’s what you’re most interested in, you’ll get on very well with the Honor 90. The phone’s main issue is that it’s available at the same price as the Galaxy A54 and the Pixel 7a, both of which have far superior operating systems and in the case of the latter, far better overall performance courtesy of the Tensor G2 chip. They’re all great phones in their own right; it just depends on which features you value the most.

In our DXOMARK Camera tests, the Honor 90 delivered an overall strong performance, with some of the best results for photo exposure and autofocus that we have seen on a device in the High-end segment. Target exposure was accurate in most conditions, even in backlit scenes and other difficult lighting situations, and the autofocus was more consistent than on most other devices in this class. Our experts particularly liked the Honor’s macro mode, which allowed the photographer to get close to the subject and was capable of capturing very good detail. There are plenty of things to like about this phone, it's pretty snappy with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, there are plenty of memory configurations to choose from, and battery life is pretty good as well. On the other hand, there's no wireless charging, the price is a bit high for what this phone has to offer, and availability might be problematic. Two years of major software updates might not be everyone's cup of tea, and the camera system is kind of a mixed bag.

There’s still a lot more to test until I’m ready to deliver my final verdict on the Honor 90, but during these early stages I’ve seen plenty that’s caught my attention. I can easily see myself becoming so accustomed to the quality of the screen that there’s bound to be an adjustment period for any phone thereafter, and the battery life has been great so far. The main hiccup I see at the moment is in the performance and the potential setbacks of MagicOS, but only time will tell if those issues are enough to offset the phone’s more appealing features.

HONOR touts HDR10+ and Netflix compatibility, a DXOMark Gold Display certification, super high PWM 3,840Hz risk-free dimming, and more specs than I can remember. All of those marketing buzzwords are worth it, though.

In isolation, the Honor 90 is a fantastic mid-range blower. It looks the business, has a gorgeous screen and that 200MP main camera is capable of impressive detail in a range of lighting conditions. We have no complaints about performance given the asking price, and battery life is superb. 66W rapid charging is among the fastest you’ll find for this kind of cash, and a 512GB storage option is unheard of at the mid-range. There’s no shortage of similarly-priced rivals around, though – and they each bring something different to the table. The Nothing Phone 1 isn’t quite as speedy, but has wireless charging and distinctive glyph lighting; the Pixel 7a doesn’t last as long, but sets the bar for mid-tier phone cameras; the Galaxy A54 has IP67 water resistance and expandable storage support. If longevity, storage space and charging speeds are higher on your wish list than any of those features, the Honor 90 is a great buy – but it’s far from the only game in town.

If you want a smartphone with decent specs but don’t want to pay the premium price tag, then Honor 90 Pro is the smartphone for you. Honor implemented all the high-end and flagship-grade components it can and the end result is simply spectacular. Whether it’s the design or the display, you will fall in love right at first glance at the smartphone. To drive such a display, Honor used the Qualcomm SnapdragonSoC, which is an excellent choice and we must applaud Honor for that. The same goes for battery backup, which is more than excellent. You may think after providing all this, Honor must have gimped the cameras in order to fit the smartphone into the budget it has launched with, but that’s not the case at all. In fact, the camera performance of the smartphone has honestly surprised us and it is way better than what we initially expected. It is the smartphone that users have been wanting in the budget section. It’s an excellent smartphone and you will love this decision.

The Honor 90 Lite comes with some great specs considering the price point. The main camera is also fantastic if you can ignore the secondary camera. The 100MP sensor is properly optimized by Honor to deliver some exceptional photographic capability. The same goes for the design and battery. They are all pretty good considering the price point. You even get 5G performance while for downsides. There is the absence of an AMOLED panel and better nits peak brightness. However, there are various other smartphones in the market in and around the same price point that even offer more than decent secondary cameras, including an ultra-wide camera. If you can live without secondary cameras and are okay with what you get with the Honor 90 Lite, then it’s an easy recommendation. But if you want an alternative smartphone with an ultra-wide camera, then you can also consider the Samsung Galaxy M34. However, the final decision is up to you to choose which is better. Choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.

One of them is the camera, which lacks OIS and is a bit lackluster when it comes to low-light shooting. At the same time, the performance is average at best. Not to mention, the screen isn’t the most beautiful since it’s not OLED. If you have the budget, I would still recommend getting the Honor 90. For it’s price point, you can’t go wrong with it. While the Honor 90 Lite is lighter on the wallet, it does lack the features and performance the Honor 90 comes with. But if your budget is limited, then the Honor 90 Lite is an okay phone. The only problem now is that it faces some serious competition in the segment; phones with OLED displays, stereo-loudspeakers, and more.

The Honor 90 Lite lands among the top half of our battery database with a very good global score thanks to its good autonomy and efficiency. When used moderately, the Honor 90 Lite lasted nearly 2.5 days. The autonomy was particularly good during the typical usage scenario, however, the performances of individual usages outdoors and indoors were mixed. The Honor 90 Lite showed poor autonomy when watching videos or when using the camera and calling, but autonomy was decent when scrolling social apps or gaming, and very good when to listening to music. However, the phone’s battery gauge was inaccurate, which could significantly affect the user experience. When the device displayed 20% and 100% of power left, the true measured capacity of the battery was around 15.5% and 95%, respectively.

When it comes to affordable smartphones, there will always be some cost-saving exercises and omitting features such as 4K video and wireless charging from the Honor 90 Lite seem to be the way Honor has brought this phone in at closer to £200. The supporting cameras don't perform quite as well as the main shooter either but they're not terrible by any means. Overall, if you don't want to spend too much money on a smartphone the Honor 90 Lite is certainly worth looking at as it's definitely a mid-range winner in our eyes.

Honor has designed a high-end smartphone with the Honor 90 GT, which is truly capable of delivering close to flagship-level user experience. The Honor 90 GT’s pros include a flagship-grade display, chipset, camera, and even battery. In terms of specs, they are all flagship level but the smartphone lacks certain things and those are its cons. It lacks display protection, IP rating, and wireless charging, among other things. But considering the price, the cons can be excused. That’s because the pricing certainly takes the cake. So, is this smartphone for you? That depends on what you need from the smartphone. If you want a solid performance and user experience, then the Honor 90 GT will certainly deliver in both of these aspects. But if you need an ultra-sophisticated and true flagship experience that includes display protection, wireless charging, and dust & water protection, then this smartphone is not for you.

Honor:

En del nyare spel kan spelas med de här grafikkorten, men bara om de är mindre krävande. De har ändå tillräcklig kapacitet för kontorsbruk och film (möjligen högupplöst). Är grafikkretsen dessutom integrerad kan batteritiden vara utmärkt.

Qualcomm Adreno 644: Grafikchip för smartphones och surfplattor som är integrerat i Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. Qualcomm hävdar att det är 20% snabbare än den tidigare generationen.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.

Qualcomm Adreno 730:

Grafikkrets för smartphones och surfplattor som är integrerad i Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Qualcomm hävdar att det är 30 % snabbare än Adreno 660 i Snapdragon 888 SoC. För Android bör det vara ett av de snabbaste grafikkorten i slutet av 2021.

Qualcomm Adreno 740: Grafikchip för smartphones och surfplattor som är integrerat i Qualcomms Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Qualcomm hävdar att det är 25% snabbare än Adreno 730 i Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 och de första mätningarna visar att GPU:n kan slå Apple A16 iGPU (tidigare den snabbaste GPU:n för smartphones).

Bara vissa äldre spel kan spelas flytande med de här grafikkorten. Kretsar med delat minne har fördelen att de utvecklar mindre värme och ger längre batteritid. De duger gott för kontorsbruk, surfande och enklare bildbehandling, men spel och HD-video är inte i syftet med de här kretsarna.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 7 Gen 1: Snabb ARM SoC i mellanklassen med 8 CPU Kryo-kärnor (fyra snabba ARM Cortex-A710-kärnor på upp till 2,4 GHz, tre ytterligare A78 på upp till 2,2. GHz och fyra små ARM Cortex-A55-kärnor på upp till 1,9 GHz) och ett integrerat X53 5G-modem (upp till 3300 Mbps nedladdning). SoC:n tillverkas i den moderna 5 nm-processen.

SD 8+ Gen 1:

Högkvalitativ SoC för smartphones som introducerades i slutet av 2021 och tillverkades i 4 nm hos TSMC. Integrerar en "Prime Core" baserad på en ARM Cortex-X2-arkitektur som klockas upp till 3,2 GHz. Tre ytterligare prestandakärnor är baserade på A710 men klockar upp till 2,5 GHz. Dessutom integreras fyra energisparande kärnor som är baserade på ARM Cortex-A510-arkitekturen och klockar upp till 1,8 GHz. Förutom processorkärnorna integrerar SoC:n ett WiFi 6e-modem, en Hexagon DSP (för AI-acceleration) och en Spectra ISP. Den integrerade minneskontrollern stöder snabbt LPDDR5-minne med upp till 3 200 MHz. 5G ingår nu i chipet med Snapdragon X65-modemet. Jämfört med non plus-versionen erbjuder 8+ Gen 1 en 200 MHz högre klockad Prime Core och en 10 % högre klockad GPU. Dessutom tillverkas den nu hos TSMC och inte hos Samsung.

SD 8 Gen 2:

Högkvalitativ SoC för smartphones som introducerades i slutet av 2022 med en snabb huvudkärna baserad på en ARM Cortex-X3-arkitektur med en hastighet på upp till 3,2 GHz. Två andra högpresterande kärnor är baserade på A715 och stöder också endast 64-bitarsprogram. De andra två A710-kärnorna stöder också 32-bitarstillämpningar, liksom de energisparande Cortex-A510-kärnorna. Förutom processorkärnorna innehåller SoC ett WiFi 7-modem, en Hexagon DSP (för AI-acceleration) och en Spectra ISP. Den integrerade minneskontrollern stöder snabbt LPDDR5x-minne upp till 4200 MHz. 5G ingår i chipet med Snapdragon X70-modemet.

Mediatek Dimensity 6000:

Dimensity 6020: Dimensity 6020 är en SoC i det lägre mellansegmentet med ett integrerat 5G-modem. Den innehåller två snabba ARM Cortex-A76-kärnor på upp till 2,2 GHz och sex strömsnåla Cortex-A55-kärnor på upp till 2 GHz. Specifikationerna liknar den gamla Dimensity 700 SoC.
