Intel Core M-5Y70
Intel Core M-5Y70 är en tvåkärnig ULV (Ultra-Low Voltage)-krets baserad på Broadwellarkitekturen som lanserades i september 2014. Tack vare en TDP på endast 4,5 W (konfigurerbar), kan processorn användas i passivt kylda surfplattor och bärbara 2-i-1-datorer. Förutom två CPU-kärnor med HyperThreading och en klockfrekvens på 1,1-2,6 GHz, har processorn den integrerade grafikkretsen HD Graphics 5300 och en tvåkanals LPDDR3/DDR3L (-RS) minneskontroller med en bandbredd på upp till 25,6 GB/s. Chippet tillverkas i en 14 nm-process med FinFET-transistorer.
Arkitektur
Broadwell är ett "Tick" i Intels Tick-Tock-modell, vilket innebär en fysisk storleksreducering av föregångaren Haswell. Den nya tillverkningsprocessen i 14 nm med tredimensionella FinFET-transistorer innebär inte bara energibesparingar, utan också en betydligt mindre storlek på själva kretsen, vilket innebär att den passar bättre i mindre enheter.
Andra förbättringar i Broadwell är förbättrad branch prediction, större buffer (1500 istället för 1000 poster i L2 TLB) och andra finjusteringar som resulterat i drygt 5% bättre prestanda per klockcykel jämfört med föregångaren. Det finns också några nya instruktionsuppsättningar avsedda för kryptografiska tillämpningar.
Prestanda
Core M-5Y70 har ett brett klockfrekvensspann mellan 1,1-2,6 GHz, som i praktiken bör begränsas av kretsens TDP. Medan CPU:n påminner om en Core i5-4300U (Haswell, 15 W) i kortare tester minskar prestandan under kontinuerlig belastning. Följaktligen är det huvudsakliga syftet med Broadwells högre energieffektivitet att minska strömförbrukningen i stället för att förbättra prestandan.
Sammantaget bör Core M-5Y70 vara tillräcklig för kontorsprogram och vardaglig användning, såväl som lite mer krävande program.
Grafik
Den integrerade HD Graphics 5300 har 24 Execution Units (EUs) på 100-850 MHz. I likhet med CPU-kärnan har GPU-arkitekturen (Intel Gen 8) reviderats för förbättrad prestanda per klockcykel. Dock kommer även GPU-frekvensen att begränsas av TDP:n, vilket förhindrar betydande prestandaökningar jämfört med den äldre HD 4200 under kontinuerlig 3D belastning. Aktuella spel från 2014 kan vara spelbara med låga inställningar och -upplösning.
Broadwell är den första Intelprocessorn som fullt ut stöder DirectX 11.2 samt OpenCL 1.3/2.0 och OpenGL 4.3. Videoutgången är Displayport 1.2 eller HDMI 1.4a. Den nya standarden HDMI 2.0 stöds däremot inte officiellt.
Strömförbrukning
Med en TDP på endast 4,5 W drar Core M-5Y70 märkbart mindre ström än Haswell Y-serien (11,5 W). Däremot kan TDP-värdet varieras till t.ex. 3,5 eller 6 W, något som påverkar klockhastigheter och prestanda. Processorn klarar sig med passiv kylning även i tunna surfplattor.
