Four months ago I gave the G6 a 4.8/5 in my full review. Would I still give it such a high score today? The LG G6 is not a perfect phone (it never was). The more you use a device the more flaws you will find. If I had to give the G6 a new score, I would drop it down to a very respectable 4.5/5. The sluggish camera and bad battery life are my biggest issues today.

So, is it a good buy now that it’s July? We absolutely think so. One could argue the point that you could get the OnePlus 5 that rocks a Snapdragon 835 with 6GB of RAM for a more affordable price, but that device comes with a few caveats of its own. If you’re into owning a device with the most beastly specs available, we won’t convince you otherwise; it is your hard-earned cash after all. If you are, however, looking for one of the best multimedia experiences on a smartphone, the LG G6 can definitely provide you with that. Now that LG’s flagship has been priced lower, it certainly merits more consideration its gotten in the past.

The star of the show is the new LG FullVision Display, though it is still at niche stage and with Samsung following the suite, we believe that the new aspect ratio might become a norm in 2018. However, using an older processor has definitely put the smartphone on the back foot. No doubt, this is probably one of the best devices from LG, but when compared to the competition, it becomes a tough job for G6 to compete with other flagship devices. But for many people, the real ace up the G6’s sleeve as far as it comes to the Galaxy S8 might be its significantly lower price tag of Rs 51,990 – the S8 in India starts at 57,900 and in India, cannot claim to have a newer Snapdragon chip either. In fact, as this is being written, the G6 is available for as little as Rs 41,990 (or $499 unlocked in the US), which makes it perhaps the most attractive “premium flagship” out there (in terms of flat out performance, we would rank it ahead of the OnePlus 3T, which is the only device with a Snapdragon 821 chip at a lower price).

So, all things considered my second experience with the LG G6 was far and away better than the first one. Sure there are still some things I did not like about it but what phone is perfect? Not even the Pixel can claim that in my opinion. The LG G6 ships with a larger-than-normal 3300mAh battery. This is above the Samsung Galaxy S8 and most other flagship devices, which tend to go for 3000mAh cells. We found that during general usage, the LG G6 could almost reach two days if you're playing it safe. Moderate use would see the device get a solid days use with a bit to spare. In our draining battery test at 50% brightness, it lost 20% capacity over 78 minutes. By our calculations, this gives 6-and-a-half hours of on-screen time. This is a very good result and should get through the handset through a solid day of use. AnTuTu gave the battery a score of 7138, which is up there with the best.

Overall, the LG G6 seems like a very valid Android option this 2017. For one, its design has improved, especially with its big screen-to-body ratio. Additionally, its display is also great with its high-end 1440 x 2880 pixel resolution. It may not have the latest Snapdragon processor, but as of its time of launch, the newest processor from Qualcomm hasn't been spread out to manufacturers yet. On top of all these, the LG G6 is also equipped with a competitive set of rear cameras. Note that the LG G6 comes with a dual 13 MP primary camera. With Blackberry and Nokia grabbing the headlines, Mobile World Congress in 2017 is fast becoming the year of the comeback. But while those brands have a more dramatic comeback story to tell, LG has the most compelling product. When the hype dies down and we all go home, the G6 is the phone I'm most interested in spending more time with.

The LG G6 is not a perfect flagship smartphone, but I do think it is (by far) one of the most exciting LG smartphones yet. I love the fact that it’s water-resistant – it’s the first G series phone to boast an IP68 rating – and the G6’s unique display is a very interesting piece of hardware. Hopefully, it won’t take LG too long to bring the G6 into Malaysia – time is of the essence, especially for a Snapdragon 821 device.

Despite its weirdly tall profile, we must say we like the LG G6. It’s a wonderful phone to hold in your hand – quite light and not at all awkward to hold or use one-handed – and the fact that the display occupies nearly the entire front is great. Coupled with an improved dual-camera setup, it should be an early contender for the best smartphone of 2017.

The G6 looks like a great solution for people who focus on one-handed use. But, of course, it lives in the spectre of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8, which may be announced on March 29. If Samsung matches LG's narrow, big-screen approach and throws in a Snapdragon 835 with gigabit LTE speeds, it'll be a lot harder to recommend the G6 than it is today.

The LG G6 is no doubt a striking smartphone. Metal and glass shimmer while the huge 18:9 screen is impressively brought to life with the improved software and its rounded corner design. It is a more refined smartphone than both the G4 and G5, and should appeal to a broader audience – even if its features aren’t the same globally.

If I'm going to be totally honest, the LG G5 was a disappointment last year. I didn't have any major problems with how it worked, or how it was built, but it didn't have the gloss I think a high-end smartphone needs to have. The modularity was a good idea, that was ultimately neglected and didn't offer what it needed to be a true success.

When I look back on many of the gimmicks LG has tried to use to sell smartphones over the years, the most striking thing about the G6 is how this time the focus is on just making a good, balanced phone that does most thing really well, and a few things. En del nyare spel kan spelas med de här grafikkorten, men bara om de är mindre krävande. De har ändå tillräcklig kapacitet för kontorsbruk och film (möjligen högupplöst). Är grafikkretsen dessutom integrerad kan batteritiden vara utmärkt.
