Utlåtande - MSI tar för många genvägar

Katana A15 AI har samma uppsättning brister som den nyligen granskade Acer Nitro V 16 ANV16. Dess skärm skär bara inte det med tanke på priset, vilket är ganska betydande. Medan några mer prisvärda RTX 4070-bärbara datorer som Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9, Asus TUF Gaming F15 FX507ZI4-LP031 och HP Victus 16-s0177ng erbjuder 100% sRGB-täckning (åtminstone enligt respektive specifikationsblad), kommer MSI-bärbara datorn till korta med under 70%, vilket gör bilden som visas ganska blek och glänsande.

MSI borde ha ansträngt sig mer på andra områden också, till exempel det billiga, skakiga fodralet, den magra batterikapaciteten och drifttiderna, den lilla pekplattan och de mediokra högtalarna. Det finns ingen USB 4 här och den okonventionella tangentbordslayouten kan ta lite tid att vänja sig vid.

Katana A15 sticker ut från mängden på bara ett fåtal positiva sätt, där dess två RAM-minnen och två M.2-platser är särskilt lovvärda. Sammantaget är det svårt att rekommendera den här bärbara datorn för köp på grund av de många problem vi upptäckte, särskilt med tanke på priset (test SKU börjar på 1 500 euro). Flera konkurrerande system är märkbart snabbare. Några av dem är också billigare.

Fallet

Köpare av bärbara speldatorer i budgetklassen får ofta nöja sig med fodral av dålig kvalitet. Det är samma sak med Katana. Fodralet känns inte särskilt högkvalitativt, till stor del på grund av den omfattande användningen av plast. Dess mörka färg gör det också mycket benäget för fingeravtryck, och dess stabilitet är medioker. På plussidan är den bärbara datorn relativt välgjord och har en generös 180° maximal öppningsvinkel, vilket alltid är en välkommen touch.

Anslutningsmöjligheter

För de som kan leva utan en kortläsare och förra generationens USB-portar erbjuder Katana A15 AI ett gediget portutbud. Den vänstra kanten har en power-in-port och två USB-portar (en 3.0, den andra 2.0), medan den högra sidan är hem för ett ljuduttag, USB-A 3.0, USB-C 3.0 (med DisplayPort), HDMI 2.1 och en RJ45 Gigabit LAN-port. Den bärbara datorn levereras med flera informationsbroschyrer och en 200-watts laddare (inklusive kabel) som väger cirka 0,7 kg.

Underhåll

Eftersom en av skruvarna är täckt av en "factory seal"-dekal och enheten var en butiksenhet avstod vi från att öppna chassit. Men så länge underhåll och uppgraderingar utförs professionellt bör klistermärket vara OK att ta bort (åtminstone i Tyskland).

Hållbarhet

Kartong är det primära förpackningsmaterialet, men MSI använder även plastfilm för vissa komponenter, t.ex. den bärbara datorn, laddaren (inklusive kabel) och informationsbroschyrer.

I Tyskland gäller den vanliga 2-årsgarantin.

Inmatningsenheter

Tangentbord

Inmatningsenheterna är överlag solida, men det finns fortfarande utrymme för förbättringar. Tangentbordets layout kanske inte passar bra med vissa användare, till att börja med. MSI fortsätter att använda sin okonventionella layout, som avviker från den tyska standarden på flera sätt. Det numeriska tangentbordet med tre kolumner istället för den vanliga fyrkolumnslayouten tar lite tid att vänja sig vid. Även om skrivupplevelsen är hyfsad för en bärbar speldator känns det inte lika bra att skriva som med ett mekaniskt tangentbord och återkopplingen är inte lika förfinad här. På plussidan kommer de som gillar färgglada inställningar att uppskatta RGB-belysningseffekterna.

Pekplatta

Pekplattan är relativt liten för en 15-tums bärbar dator och mäter 10,5 x 6,5 cm. Även om ytan verkar tillräckligt slät, lämnar dess glidegenskaper utrymme för förbättringar. Detsamma gäller dess precision, som inte är helt idealisk. Dessutom tenderar pekplattan att skramla under användning, vilket inte riktigt ger ett högkvalitativt intryck. Detta är en påminnelse om fodralets undermåliga byggkvalitet.

Display

Pekplattan är inte bra, men Katana A15:s största svaghet är skärmen, som, vilket nämnts tidigare, har en mycket dålig färgrymdstäckning på bara 65% sRGB.

144 Hz-skärmen är faktiskt bra i vissa avseenden - åtminstone enligt IPS-standarder. Inte för att det gör någon större skillnad. Kontrastförhållandet är ganska anständigt på 1458:1, och svartvärdet på 0,19 cd/m² är inte heller något att klaga på.

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Prestanda

Både RTX 4060 och RTX 4070 kommer med 8 GB VRAM vilket inte är mycket. Detta gör i huvudsak Katana A15 AI till en bärbar speldator i mellanklassen. De Ryzen-chips som används bör dock ha tillräckligt med kraft för krävande applikationer under många år framöver. Dessutom kan RAM och lagring uppgraderas eller bytas ut vid behov.

Den nya Ryzen 9 8945HS i Katana A15 AI levererar prestanda som varken är särskilt imponerande eller nedslående. Dess resultat är jämförbara med Ryzen 7 7840HS i HP Omen 16, medan Ryzen 7 7745HX i Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16 är cirka 10 % snabbare i alla tester. 8945HS har åtta CPU-kärnor som kan bearbeta upp till 16 trådar samtidigt via SMT. GPU-prestanda

GeForce RTX 4070 förväntas efterträdas av en ny modell under de kommande veckorna eller månaderna. Även om det fortfarande är en mycket snabb spel-GPU i den bärbara sektorn från och med 2024, visar sig dess begränsade 8 GB VRAM allt oftare vara en flaskhals, ibland till och med i Full HD. Bärbara speldatorer tenderar att värmas upp betydligt när man kör grafikintensiva applikationer. Detta kommer troligen inte som en överraskning för någon. Stresstest

Högtalare

2.0-högtalarna levererar en ganska föga imponerande prestanda. De gör bara bra ifrån sig när det gäller diskant. Vår ljudanalys visar att bas- och mellanregistertonerna är lika underväldigande. Konkurrerande tillverkare, som HP (se Omen 16 för jämförelse), tenderar att lägga ner mer arbete på sina ljudsystem. Den maximala volymen på 81 dB lämnar också utrymme för förbättringar.

Batteriets livslängd

Strömförbrukningen vid tomgångskörning är ganska hög och batterikapaciteten på bara 53,5 Wh är ganska blygsam. Kombinationen av de två faktorerna resulterar i en föga imponerande batteritid. I vårt Wi-Fi-webbsurfningstest med ljusstyrkan inställd på 150 cd/m² klarar Katana A15 knappt 4 timmar, vilket är ett ganska överväldigande resultat. De flesta konkurrenter presterar märkbart bättre, ofta med hjälp av större batterikapacitet.

Om Katana A15 AI hade haft ett mer högkvalitativt hölje, en bättre skärm och ett större batteri skulle priset vara mycket lättare att svälja. Som det ser ut nu är systemet dock knappt konkurrenskraftigt och känns överprissatt jämfört med några av konkurrenterna.
