Efter jämförde RDNA3 och Ada Lovelacevet vi nu mer om hur bra de nya avancerade grafikkorten presterar. Återförsäljarnas lager är ofta fortfarande fyllda med "äldre" grafikkort. Ibland kan du kanske få ett riktigt bra pris på dessa produkter. Det är därför vi tar en titt på AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT och låter den gå head-to-head mot de nya high-end-modellerna ännu en gång.
För den här recensionen använder vi ett Radeon RX 6950 XT från MSI. MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio 16G ser väldigt annorlunda ut jämfört med AMD:s referensdesign. Prestandamässigt har MSI-kortet något mer utrymme tack vare sin 340-watts TDP, vilket i sin tur också höjer GPU:ns maximala boostklocka. Kortet är ganska långt med sina 32,5 cm (12,8"). Detta är något som du måste ta med i ditt köpbeslut. Det tar också upp tre platser när det är installerat; en design med tre slitsar har redan blivit standard bland moderna avancerade GPU:er. Kortet förses med ström via tre pålitliga 6+2-stiftsanslutningar.

Syntetiska riktmärken och beräkningsprestanda
MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio 16G håller sig anmärkningsvärt bra även nästan ett år efter lanseringen och är inte helt övergiven av de nya avancerade grafikprocessorerna. I en direkt jämförelse ligger vår recensionsenhet hals och hals med en Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. Radeon RX 7900 XT är cirka 11 procent snabbare och XTX-modellen, som är baserad på den nya RDNA3-arkitekturen, går cirka 25 procent snabbare. MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio 16G har utan tvekan fortfarande en fantastisk prestanda just nu. Men GPU:n kan inte längre hålla jämna steg med de nyare korten när det gäller effektivitet. Under våra tester krävde vårt system nästan lika mycket ström när det var utrustat med MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio 16G som när det hade det mycket snabbare Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090. Som jämförelse kan nämnasGeForce RTX 4070 Ti, som ger samma prestanda som Radeon RX 6950 XT, använde cirka 45 procent mindre energi. Enbart RX 6950 XT stod för 340 watt av den totala energiförbrukningen. Men tack vare den massiva kylaren med tre slitsar kan kortet utan ansträngning avleda den mängd värme som genereras utan att bli särskilt högljudd. Ljudet som produceras av de tre fläktarna är ganska rimligt, och vi kunde bara höra ett tyst surrande ljud som kommer från datorhöljet när det är stängt. I stresstestet toppade GPU:ns temperatur vid 80 °C (176 °F), även om hotpots på chipet nådde en mycket högre temperatur på 95 °C (203 °F). Vi stötte inte på några termiska problem vid något tillfälle under testningen.

Bedömning - Snabbt men ineffektivt
Radeon RX 6950 XT var tills nyligen AMD:s bästa grafikkort för stationära datorer. MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio 16G är en ganska populär styrelsepartnermodell som väcker uppmärksamhet med sin extremt stora kylare och mycket RGB-belysning. Den nästan ett år gamla modellen har ungefär lika mycket prestanda som ett Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti från Nvidia. AMD-kortet har till och med mer VRAM än Nvidias GPU och förblir därmed ett bra alternativ. För närvarande kan MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio 16G fortfarande köra alla moderna spel i 2160p med lätthet. Men ray tracing bör inte vara högsta prioritet om du tänker köpa kortet. Detta beror på att aktivering av ray tracing kommer att få dess prestanda att sjunka avsevärt. Som ett resultat av detta kan jämna bildfrekvenser ofta endast uppnås när ett spels upplösning minskas till 1080p. Med det sagt, enligt olika hårdvaruundersökningar spelar de flesta ändå spel i 1080p eller 1440p, så Radeon RX 6950 XT kan förbli attraktivt även i framtiden.
MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio 16G Gaming X Trio 16G erbjuder fortfarande tillräckligt med prestanda just nu för 4K-spel.
Vårt största problem med GPU:n är dess strömförbrukning vid maxbelastning. Detta är ett område som verkligen visar på det tekniska språnget i den nya generationens grafikkort. Icke desto mindre kan casual gamers köpa ett kort av tidigare generation med tillförsikt. Enligt vår åsikt bör spelentusiaster eller streamers istället satsa på ett Radeon RX 7900 XT eller ett Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. Deras lägre strömförbrukning kommer att betala sig i längden.
AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT är för närvarande tillgänglig från 879 euro (946 dollar). Du kan räkna med att betala samma summa för ett GeForce RTX 4070 Ti och 999 euro (1 075 USD) för ett Radeon RX 7900 XT.
