Of course, no phone is perfect, and the Razr Plus 2024 may not be enticing to everyone, especially after swapping the ultrawide camera for a telephoto lens. However, if that doesn't bother you, I feel like many of my biggest gripes can (and likely will) be addressed with some software updates. Even with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 right behind it, I have a feeling the Razr Plus 2024 will be the best flip phone of the year.

As much as I enjoyed using it, I also recognized that it had numerous shortcomings. Its cameras were disappointing, its battery life was lacking, and the hinge trailed behind the competition. I was OK looking past those things, but if someone asked me which folding flip phone they should buy, I’d reluctantly recommend the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 retains the fun and charm of its predecessor while improving upon it in virtually every way. The hinge feels better and more reliable. The cover display is larger. Camera quality is significantly improved. Battery life is longer. Charging speeds are faster.

I was OK looking past those things, but if someone asked me which folding flip phone they should buy, I’d reluctantly recommend the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Motorola Razr Plus 2024 retains the fun and charm of its predecessor while improving upon it in virtually every way. The hinge feels better and more reliable. The cover display is larger. Camera quality is significantly improved. Battery life is longer. Charging speeds are faster.

If you're interested in the foldable form factor, the lower priced 2024 Motorola Razr is a safe bet. At $700, it has a big external screen and is significantly more affordable than the $1,000 Razr+ and even more so compared to the $1,100 Galaxy Z Flip 6, though the Razr+ is currently discounted to $899 on Amazon. It's also competitive with non-folding phones in its price range.

Motorola is setting a new benchmark for all foldable phones this year with the Razr (2024). For a foldable phone priced at $699, it receives a much more satisfying upgrade in my opinion than the pricier Razr Plus 2024 — complete with a new outer screen that expands its functionality, an attractive design with better water resistance, and an improved camera performance. Sure, it’s missing out on the Moto AI features that will eventually make their way to the Razr Plus 2024, but the savings it has over it and other foldable phones makes it attractive. Best of all, I cannot stress enough about how it sets a benchmark because of its price. You won’t find any other foldable phone that offers better value than this. I know that software support could be better, but its cheaper price point paired with its laundry list of excellent features make it a solid option.

With all that out of the way, it certainly sounds like the Motorola Razr (2024) is the best thing since sliced bread, at least if you can live without a few early AI features. Either way, the fact is that both the Motorola Razr Plus and the regular ol’ Razr are excellent this year, and both look capable of beating out Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6, which has barely changed since the Flip 5. As a Razr Plus fanboy, I expected to love Motorola’s top flip phone, but I’m finding the vanilla Razr is far easier to recommend, and I’d dare to call it the best value we’ve seen from a foldable phone available in the US.

The 2024 Motorola Razr is a fine folding phone that sacrifices performance to reach a lower price. In its favor, it has outstanding battery life, a playful and flexible design, excellent inner and outer screens, and capable software from Motorola. We wish the performance were quicker and the cameras were sharper, but for $700, the Razr is a good entry point to folding phones. Upgrading to the Razr+ for $300 more gets you much faster performance, a larger external screen, and a more useful zoom camera. At that price, it's also worth considering the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, especially if you use other Samsung devices.

If you're focused on power and performance above all else, you can find much better deals than the new Motorola Razr for $700. The OnePlus 12R and the Pixel 8a are significantly cheaper, and even Google's flagship Pixel 8 Pro is routinely on sale for just $50 more than this device. But if you're interested in a foldable, you probably aren't seeking the best specs or impressive cameras. Frankly, this is a pretty solid midrange phone built into a flip phone chassis, and that's really all it needs to be. It's a novelty, sure, but whether you're interested in the smaller folded form factor or you find this sort of device fashionable, it's pretty great to see a clamshell phone as good as this one available for just $700 — and that's before Motorola's inevitable sales. While I think most Android Police readers would be better served by the $1,000 Razr+, if you're interested in picking up a foldable without breaking the bank, this new Razr might be the way to go.

It looks like the Motorola Razr (2024) will be a pretty cool upgrade to last year's Razr. Just adding that 3.6-inch screen but keeping the price at $700 already sounds like a gamechanger. That said, if you do own a Razr (2023) — you're fine. However, people that are new to the foldable space and don't feel like spending $1k on the new concept may find this device has enough to hook them in and keep them as Moto fans. Right now, we hope the camera gets some love since the Razr (2023) was lacking in that area.

Motorola:

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.

Qualcomm Adreno 735: Grafikchip för smartphones och surfplattor, integrerat i Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC.

En del nyare spel kan spelas med de här grafikkorten, men bara om de är mindre krävande. De har ändå tillräcklig kapacitet för kontorsbruk och film (möjligen högupplöst). Är grafikkretsen dessutom integrerad kan batteritiden vara utmärkt.

SD 8s Gen 3: High-end SoC (System on a Chip) för smartphones som introducerades 2024. Det integrerar bland annat en snabb Cortex-X4 "Prime Core" med upp till 3 GHz och ytterligare 4 snabba Cortex-A720 2,8 GHz-kärnor. För att spara ström installerades också ytterligare 3 ARM Cortex-A520-kärnor med 2,3 GHz. Ett 5G-modem, WiFi 7 och en betydligt snabbare AI-motor är integrerade.

Dimensity 7300: Dimensity 7300 är en mellanklassprocessor med ett integrerat 5G-modem. CPU-delen integrerar fyra ARM Cortex-A78-kärnor med upp till 2,5 GHz och fyra Cortex-A55 power-kärnor med upp till 2 GHz. SoC:n är tillverkad med den moderna 4nm-processen.
