60% Nokia X10 review: A charming handset plagued by compromise

Producing a mid-range phone in 2021 that is not only technically good but that stands apart from the crowd is no mean feat. And despite Nokia’s best efforts with the X10, it doesn’t do quite enough to distance itself from the competition. The focus on sustainability is certainly to be commended, however. In an era when corporate social responsibility is still the exception rather than the norm, it allows Nokia a veneer of respectability it might not otherwise have had. But the phone itself has too many compromises to be an obvious recommendation. With a screen, battery and camera that are good enough it certainly isn’t bad, but the lack of a powerful chipset is an issue which will only become bigger with time, especially as other phones in this price bracket continue to improve.

The most attractive thing about the Nokia X10 is how it looks: there's a big display in a decent-size body with a finish that's pretty distinctive - and we like the 'Forest' green colour. Having a Full HD+ resolution means that content looks good, too, although it's strictly 60Hz refresh rate for this experience. There's ample power for day-to-day use and it will cope with more demanding games, although the graphics quality is limited, so it's not the best experience out there. The cameras are average in their performance but will suffice for many users. Battery performance is good overall, rounding a package that's capable enough. While updates have so far been slow, the promise of three years of Android updates adds further appeal. But while the overall experience is of a competent phone, it's just not hugely exciting one.

The most attractive thing about the Nokia X10 is how it looks: there's a big display in a decent sized phone and a finish that that's pretty unique - and we like the Forest colour. We obviously need to spend a lot of time testing the performance of this phone and evaluating the how that core hardware dictates the experience - while putting the camera through its paces too. Nokia might be feeling the squeeze in this position, however, with some notable rivals - but we'll bring you a full review as soon as we can.

Bara vissa äldre spel kan spelas flytande med de här grafikkorten. Kretsar med delat minne har fördelen att de utvecklar mindre värme och ger längre batteritid. De duger gott för kontorsbruk, surfande och enklare bildbehandling, men spel och HD-video är inte i syftet med de här kretsarna.
