Getting used to the button takes practice, while the algorithms can be patched with a later firmware update (Find X8 Pro offers four years of firmware updates and six years of security updates). The real kicker is the soft volume, which has a low range at half-bar, but even that isn’t a deal-breaker. In fact, we’re gracing it with Editor’s Choice simply because it made the cut in every other way.

The Oppo FindX8 Pro provided a very good battery experience, with a particularly strong performance in battery life as well as good power efficiency. Its autonomy is a very strong point for an ultra-premium product, showcasing a well-optimized device that allows users to reach more than 3 days of autonomy on a single charge if used under moderate conditions (4 hours of usage per day). In almost all scenarios, the Find X8 Pro’s battery life surpassed the average, except for 3G calls and during idle periods when only WiFi is running in the background. But in typical multimedia use cases such as video streaming in 4G or gaming, the Find X8 Pro performed strongly.

However, the most important factor when considering purchasing the OPPO Find X8 Pro is the price, and the price is sky-high. At £1,049 in the UK, you’re looking at around $1,300 in the US. That places the device above both Google and Samsung’s 2024 flagships. While I had a really good time using OPPO’s latest flagship, it’s definitely a niche pick at this price point. However, if you don’t mind paying up, it’s the perfect device for those seeking something a little different beyond the usual suspects.

I was excited when I heard the Oppo Find X8 Pro was getting a wider release than the Find X6 Pro, as that phone was one of my favourites of the last couple of years. However, while the Find X8 Pro is excellent, the decision to go with four lenses rather than keep the large sensor for the main lens is a disappointing one for me. It keeps the Find X8 Pro back from greatness, which is a shame. In essence I’ve been spoiled by seeing what is possible, and I don’t want to go back now. Overall, it’s a very well performing device, but it’s reasonably similar to others of its type. The four lenses are all good, but the second of the zoom lenses isn’t amazing, and therefore doesn’t make up for reducing image quality elsewhere – yes I’m complaining about the one-inch sensor being missing, again.

What we didn't love was the relatively slow charging, as well as the fairly low maximum brightness. The haptic feedback and audio quality are also not as good as we had hoped. Are those dealbreakers?

Given that the Find X series was missing in action for years, Oppo has priced its flagships well. Still, I wished Oppo would have taken its time and introduced an Ultra model instead of the Pro in India. The Find X8 at Rs. 69,999 (12GB + 256GB) is an easy recommendation over Samsung's Galaxy S24 (Review) and is a welcome addition to the rather limited selection of compact flagships we have here in India. It checks all the boxes for a compact flagship and has no competition when it comes to charging and battery life. Things are a bit shaky for the Find X8 Pro, which is priced at Rs. 99,999 (16GB + 512GB). Firstly, its design feels premium, but it's not as unique as the Find X7 Ultra (Review).

The Oppo Find X8 Pro did well in our performance tests, which is expected from the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset. It scored 8,415 (multi) and 2,786 (single) in Geekbench 6, and 6,424 in the 3DMark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test, with a 59.7% stability score. Suffice to say, this smartphone will be able to handle almost any app or game you throw at it. Battery life was decent, with the 5,910mAh battery lasting 7h 39min in the PCMark battery test. It's not a two-day phone, but will last most users a full day. The smartphone comes with a fast-charging power adapter, and also supports wireless charging. What we have in the Oppo Find X8 Pro is a great all-rounded flagship smartphone. It takes great photos, comes with good usability features, and ColorOS is really polished, even coming with some AI smarts. The 6X optical zoom is also a standout feature, besting other flagship smartphones. The Oppo Find X8 Pro is available now at S$1,499 from Lazada or Shopee.

So, should you buy the OPPO Find X8 Pro? Actually, yes. It’s a good all-rounder package with great specs with great performance even though its thermal limit is only at 41°C. At the price of RM4,999 – it is definitely creeping up to the ultra flagships of the world. While OPPO’s ColorOS introduces a lot of features and a new animation engine, it still has bloatwares like Fineasy that automatically launches when we double press the power button and cannot be changed, and the App Market that doesn’t offer anything special. There are also ads pushed to us via notifications, but I have disabled it manually.

Wrapping up, I’m sure that the OPPO Find X8 Pro lives up to the hype. OPPO’s latest flagship excels under almost every segment in this review. It’s one thing for a phone to succeed in one area, but this device took the ball and ran with it. Users are met with a sleek and premium design, smooth display, great cameras, consistent performance, and insane battery life. To top it all off, this smartphone comes with intuitive AI integrations for different tasks too. It might be crazy, but I think that the only thing I don’t like about the device is the bloatware. Then again, it certainly feels like an afterthought, all things considered. OPPO made sure that their personal touches were felt with this device from software to hardware. This was evident with the latest version of ColorOS, the convenience of the slider buttons, and its other features.

The Find X8 Pro's flaws are few, smalish, and of somewhat lesser importance than the things it's actually great at. Just because Oppo is choosing to stay away from a brightness competition, doesn't mean you'll be strapped for nits, and unless you absolutely must game above 60fps, you'll be perfectly fine with a Find. The camera system has a few imperfections in our experience, but you can expect that from the Pro when there's an Ultra on the way. Those relatively minor things aside, the Find X8 Pro is a thoroughly competent all-round flagship smartphone. The super powerful chipset is about as good as they come, the battery life is towards the top of the class, the newly-standard next-level water sealing brings extra peace of mind, the camera key can't hurt.

After my initial usage, it's difficult for me to draw a verdict about which phone is better and which phone offers better value. From a camera perspective, the Find X8 Pro definitely has an edge in the zoom department, as not many premium smartphones offer 6X optical zoom these days. As for the Find X8, despite having fewer cameras, it also seems quite capable, but I'll have to test out both devices in different scenarios to see and deduce each phone's strengths and weaknesses, not just with their cameras but with their design, battery life, and displays as well. After spending a week with the Oppo Find X8 Pro, I find myself with very few complaints. This phone excels in every metric. It’s powerful, good-looking, has amazing cameras and plenty of software perks too. As a photography enthusiast, who values camera performance over everything else, I’d pick this over the best from Samsung, Apple or Google. No contest. The competition from brands like Vivo and Xiaomi is fierce, but their best camera phones aren’t currently available in the UK. If we’re just talking about phones you can buy locally, the Find X8 Pro is almost certainly the best for photography. I’d happily put up with more heft if it means larger sensors, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that there’s an X8 Ultra on the horizon. For now, though, this is more than good enough.

These flagship smartphones usually boasted the best camera tech around and this quad 50MP Hasselblad setup is certainly beefy. You've got dual periscope zoom lenses, like the Samsung S24 Ultra, plus impressive 4K 60FPS video support. I'll be testing the Oppo Find X8 Pro's photo smarts in full for that review! Likewise, I can't comment on the battery life or gaming performance just yet. However, Mediatek's Dimensity 9400 runs the show, while the Oppo Find X8 Pro also serves up a near 6000mAh battery with 80W charging. So it's certainly competitive vs the Pixel 9 Pro XL and other major rivals. ColorOS 15 is a blinder too, with an almost identical setup to OxygenOS 15 which I reviewed a couple of weeks back. You can expect some genuinely useful AI features and a slick, smooth experience here on the Oppo Find X8 Pro.

Dimensity 9400: Det taiwanesiska företagets senaste flaggskepps-SoC för premium Android telefoner och surfplattor, från och med november 2024. Den har 1 Cortex-X925-kärna som arbetar i upp till 3,62 GHz tillsammans med 3 Cortex-X4-kärnor (upp till 3,25 GHz) och 4 Cortex-A720-kärnor (upp till 2 GHz). Immortalis-G925 MP12 fungerar som integrerad GPU; den är nästan lika snabb som Qualcomm Adreno 830. Det finns också MediaTek 890 8: e generationens NPU med en "prestanda" -kärna och en "flexibel" -kärna samt 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth och satellitnavigering.
