AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX är onekligen en kraftfull APU. Den är för tillfället den näst snabbaste processorn i AMD:s utbud näst efter Threadripper 2990WX. Vidare får Threadripper 2970WX allt annat än 2990WX att se utdaterat ut när det rör applikationer som kan dra fördel av dess 24 kärnor och 48 trådar. Utmärkt flerkärnig prestanda kommer på bekostnad av ökad energiförbrukning, vilket förhindrar Threadripper 2970WX från att användas i ett energieffektivt system.
En stor fördel med Threadripper-serien är att den är bakåtkompatibel. Så här långt stödjer alla X399 moderkort de nya Threadripper APU:erna tack vare en BIOS-uppdatering. Men vi rekommenderar att undersöka huruvida moderkortets tillverkare säljer VRM-kylelement att lägga till, för Threadripper 2970WX och 2990WX har ett TDP-värde på 250 W vilket får dess VRM:er att värmas upp betydligt mer än när de används tillsammans med en APU med ett TDP-värde på 180 W.
Den 2:a generationens Threadripper APU:er är de första processorerna som erbjuder 32 kärnor och 64 trådar åt hemanvändare. Threadripper 2970WX är en APU för arbetsstationer som är ett utmärkt köp för den som ofta använder applikationer optimerade för flera kärnor. Men om du bara letar efter en spelprocessor bör du titta någon annanstans, då den enkelkärniga prestandan inte rättfärdigar en prislapp på nästan 13.000 kronor.
Syftet med Threadripper 2970WX är i huvudsak att vara en APU för arbetsstationer. Prestandatesterna reflekterar den typen av användning, för det är bara när det kommer till flerkärniga tester som denna APU verkligen kommer till sin rätt. Nästan 13.000 kronor för jämförelsevis dålig enkelkärnig prestanda kan verka en aning mycket för många användare, men Threadripper 2970WX är betydligt billigare än motsvarigheten från Intel och har betydligt bättre flerkärnig prestanda. I korthet är den rejäla prislappen i vårt tycke värt det.
Den som sysslar med video- och fotoredigering kommer att uppskatta kraften från AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX. På samma sätt kan denna APU bekvämt köra flera virtuella maskiner på samma gång, vilket gör Threadripper 2970WX till en utmärkt kandidat till serverprocessor. Sammanfattningsvis är denna APU ett flerkärnigt monster, men den svaga enkelkärniga prestandan och det höga utgångspriset hindrar den från att vara en allt-i-allo; den lämpar sig bäst som en processor för arbetsstationer eller servrar där den till fullo kan utnyttja sina många kärnor och trådar.
