Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

TravelMate Spin B1 är inte en vanlig 2 i 1-dator utan en bärbar dator specifikt utformad med utbildningssektorn i åtanke. Med tanke på målgruppen har Acer lyckats bra med flertal saker. Ett robust chassi behövs för den stundvis hårda användning en dator utsätts för i klassrummen och Spin B1 levererar ur den synpunkten. En skärm med bra ljusstyrka är även det att föredra; och med sina 290 cd/m lyckas TravelMate återigen, framförallt jämfört med konkurrensen. Vidare har den pekskärm och stöd för touchpenna vilket är till stor hjälp i klassrummet. TravelMate kyls passivt vilket innebär att det inte finns någon fläkt som kan gå sönder ifall datorn hanteras oförsiktigt. Skolor använder i regel hårdvara längre än företag och privata användare så livslängden är helt klart en stor och viktig del av designen.

Ett antal saker skulle kunna förbättras. Skärmen är ljus och överraskande färgstark, men tyvärr lite för blank vilket resulterar i reflektioner i skärmen. Vi anser att en semi-matt panel skulle varit ett mycket lämpligare val. Pekplattan känns ganska märklig och kan inte manövreras särskilt smidigt. Batteritiden är inte toppen den heller - studenter som skulle vilja ha en billigare, sekundär bärbar dator kommer se detta som en stor nackdel. Sist men inte minst, så utnyttjar inte TravelMate processorns fulla potential och de passivt kylda Dell Latitude 3180 och Asus VivoBook E200HA gör ett mycket bättre jobb ur den aspekten. Den enda trösten i det dagliga användandet är Solid State-disken. 

Acer TravelMate Spin B1 ger och tar: skärmen är imponerande men maskinen i övrigt lämnar mycket att önska. 

Ovanstående punkter gör det naturligtvis svårt att helhjärtat rekommendera Spin B1. Att TravelMate är en fläktlös 2 i 1-dator är i sig inte unikt och ett köp blir därför svårmotiverat. Prisskillnaden är inte särskilt stor heller. Ett stort plus är dock skärmen; och för de användare som behöver lysande färgåtergivning och briljant betraktningsvinkel kan de bli avgörande faktorer i valet mellan andra bärbara datorer.
