Apple har gjort det igen: MacBook Pro 13 Retina får inte bara ett mycket bra betyg på 89 %, utan stjäl även förstaplatsen från Dell XPS 13 i vår Topp 10-ranking för små bärbara datorer – även om skillnaden mellan de två är minimal.

MBP drar fördel av Apples främsta discipliner, inklusive chassikvalitet, temperatur/ljudhantering och skärm, även om den senare har tappat täten vad gäller upplösningen. Det subjektiva intrycket av bildkvalitet och färgreproduktion från IPS-skärmen håller sig ändå på referensnivå.

Men Apple leder inte bara över rivalerna här; andra höjdpunkter som trippel-ströms WLAN, en extremt snabb PCIe-SSD och den praktiska Force Touch-pekplattan (som även fungerar i Windows) finns inte på någon annan enhet.

Trots att man gjort ett bra jobb vad gäller temperaturer och fläktljud kan man ha blandade känslor om 28-watts-processorn. Prestandan i jämförelse med de snabbaste 15-wattskretsarna är obetydligt liten i de flesta situationer, och GPU:n i synnerhet är en besvikelse jämfört med dedikerade alternativ.

Även om Intel är minst två steg före konkurrenterna med sin tillverkningsprocess kan Iris Graphics 6100 inte konkurrera med en instegslösning som GeForce 840M, som dessutom är mer strömsnål. Vissa alternativ som Asus Zenbook UX303LN drar nytta av en sådan kombination.

Trots det kan nackdelarna inte påverka resultatet för MBP 13 – det är en utmärkt jobbdator med lång batteritid, särskilt i kombination med OS X. Det kan faktiskt vara tillräckliga anledningar att bortse från prissättningen, som utan tvekan är mycket brant och når svindlande höjder med några uppgraderingar.
