Asus G501 skulle ha kommit enklare undan om den kommit från en annan tillverkare, men det faktum att det är en ROG höjer förväntningarna, särskilt bland seriens fans. Det är svårt att ursäkta några av de svagare aspekterna, som lägre flerkärnig CPU-prestanda än väntat och GPU-prestandan från GTX 960. 

4K-spel är redan svåra nog att driva med ett GTX 970 och det blir bara svårare med en G501. Underhållsmöjligheterna kunde ha varit mycket bättre, de inbyggda högtalarna kunde ha varit bättre, och locket brister i kvalitet. 

Så hur utmärker sig Asus ultratunna spelmaskin? IPS-panelen med UHD-upplösning är vacker och datorns PCIe 4x 512 GB SSD är löjligt snabb mätt i rena överföringshastigheter. Chassit har lika snygg design som andra ultratunna bärbara - om inte bättre på grund av avsaknaden av uppenbara ventilationsgaller. Batteritiden är bra och både fläktljud och yttemperaturer är låga, åtminstone för att vara en speldator.

Den supersnabba SSD:n och lågt fläktljud/temperaturer kommer på bekostnad av ett högt pris och begränsad CPU- och GPU-prestanda. Vi är inte säkra på om det den typen av kompromisser som gamers är intresserade av.
