Strix GL502-serien är Asus svar på Aorus X5S - till ett lägre pris, med bättre byggkvalitet men utan det lilla extra. I praktiken skalar man bort många funktioner som ”hardcore gamers” kan ha svårt att släppa taget om, t.ex. RAID 0, flera SODIMM-platser, ytterligare interna lagringsalternativ, G-Sync, RGB-tangentbord, makroknappar och anslutningsmöjligheter som Thunderbolt 3.
Asusdatorn kan därför kännas simpel jämfört med konkurrenterna, men huvudfunktionerna håller måttet. Skärmen är den bästa som hittat in i en 15-tums gaming-bärbar i ROG-serien. Den tjockare GL552 har några fler funktioner som en optisk enhet och utbytbart batteri, men svagare GPU-alternativ.
Det återstår att se hur GL502VY-varianten med GTX 980M fungerar, eftersom den här modellen med GTX 970M redan blir ganska varm. Kylsystemet är absolut inte så illa som GS60, men förmodligen mindre utvecklat än i Aorus, som delar likartade dimensioner och vikt. För närvarande är vi ändå imponerade av GL502VT som helhet.
