Det kanske inte syns på utsidan, men Asus har gjort stora interna uppdateringar för att öka prestandan betydligt jämfört med den äldre GX550. Avancerade spellaptops är inte längre exklusivt för Intels Core-serie nu när de mobila AMD Ryzen-alternativen till och med har gått om de snabbaste Core i9-systemen från Intels 10:e generation, vilket inkluderar Asus egna Zephyrus Duo 15 GX550.
Utöver en Zen 3 CPU förtjänar också den nya 4K-skärmen med 120 Hz bilduppdatering också uppmärksamhet. Till skillnad från de flesta äldre 4K-skärmar på 15.6 tum har den här snabbare svart-vita och grå-grå responstider som nu ligger mycket närmare de vanliga 1080p-alternativen med 144 Hz, 240 Hz eller 300 Hz bilduppdatering. Skillnaden märks i huvudsak när man spelar snabba 3D-spel.
Den är inte billig, men Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551QS är så tungt packad med ny hårdvara att den utmanövrerar den föregående modellen med ganska god marginal. ScreenPad har inte ändrats alls bortsett från ett smidigare gränssnitt, som också kommer till GX550.
Problemet med dessa fördelar är att de inte är unika för GX551. Andra modeller kommer snart, om inte redan nu, ha samma CPU-, GPU- och 4K skärm-alternativ och därmed ha liknande prestandanivåer. Vidare har varken chassit eller ScreenPad ändrats vilket innebär att alla bristerna med förra årets GX550 kvarstår. Om du inte gillade tangenternas korta färdväg, den pyttiga klickplattan, de breda måtten eller avsaknaden av webbkamera på GX550 kommer troligen inte GX551 övertyga dig. De pulserande fläktarna när man spelar i Performance-läget hade också kunnat bli bättre.
