Vi förväntar oss inte särskilt mycket från prisskiktet runt 2.000 kronor. Smidig prestanda, ett starkt chassi och en trevlig skärm är våra tre viktigaste krav för en "perfekt" billig surfplatta. I fallet Chuwi träffar HiPad rätt på två av de tre kraven.
Metallchassit är kanske HiPads höjdpunkt. Dess tunna formfaktor och svarta och röda gamer-aktiga estetik ger intrycket av en dyrare surfplatta. Den tryckkänsliga IPS-skärmen i glas ligger också över genomsnittet i fråga om färgprecision och kontrastförhållande.
Det är när det kommer till prestanda HiPad vacklar. Enkla handlingar som att skrolla genom sidor eller att starta applikationer kommer med en fördröjning som inte finns på modeller från mittenskiktet eller uppåt. Det är här det börjar synas att det rör sig om en enhet från budget-kategorin. Andra tillhörande funktioner som dålig kamera, dåliga högtalare och långsam laddning är lättare att leva med för det här priset, men smidigare prestanda hade gjort den generella upplevelsen mer sömlös. Som tur är fungerar surfplattan fortfarande utmärkt för att spela upp FHD-video och för sporadiskt surfande, vilket dess tänkta målgrupp kan uppskatta.
Skärmen är bättre än förväntat för det låga priset när det kommer till färgprecision och kontrast. Långsam bilduppdatering och trög prestanda sänker en i övrigt tilltalande Android-baserad budgetsurfplatta.
