Dells Precision 7720 är en väldigt kraftfull mobil arbetsstation. Det högkvalitativa höljet är i princip oförändrat från den tidigare generationen och du får nu en Thunderbolt 3-port som standard. Föregångaren hade fortfarande en del problem med att utnyttja sin fulla potential vid kombinerad belastning på CPU & GPU, men det verkar som att tillverkaren har förbättrat detta. Vårt testexemplar är utrustat med dom allra kraftfullaste komponenterna, men utnyttjandet av prestandan är ändå väldigt bra, även vid extrem belastning. Huruvida du behöver den mängden prestanda är förstås en annan fråga. Särskilt grafikkortet är för många användarfall inte nödvändigt.
Vi blev ganska besvikna på 4K PremierColor-skärmen. Detta är förstås gnäll på en väldigt hög nivå, men vi hade förväntat oss bättre resultat efter leverans för den extra kostnaden. En kalibrering är definitivt rekommenderad för den här enheten. Bakgrundbelysningens bleeding på den undre kanten är också en aning irriterande och skärmen använder PWM på låga ljusstyrkenivåer.
Precision 7720 är ett bra val när du behöver mycket prestanda, då denna mobila arbetsstation faktiskt kan utnyttja hela prestandan hos dom dyra komponenterna.
Det finns inga problem med irriterande fläktar, trots den höga prestandan. Sant, du kan höra dom tydligt vid hög belastning, men dom är ofta avstängda när du utför enklare uppgifter. Vi kan inte riktigt kritisera temperaturutvecklingen heller, och detsamma gäller batteritiden.
Utöver skärmens nackdelar så måste du titta noggrant för att hitta några problem. Listan inkluderar förstås SD-läsaren, som inte fungerade på vår testmodell, men det borde vara en isolerad händelse. SIM-platsen sitter på höljets undersida och är svår att nå, vilket förhindrar ett snabbt byte av datakort i andra länder, till exempel.
