Nya HP Elite 840 G4 är i princip bara en Kaby Lake-uppdatering av den förra G3-modellen. Kvalitets- och storleksmässigt står den sig fortfarande bra jämfört med konkurrenterna, även om detaljer som knarrande gångjärn och högljudda pekplatteknappar påverkar det goda intrycket. Tillgången till komponenterna är en annan positiv aspekt – det är t.ex. enkelt att uppgradera RAM-minnet. Vi gillar fortfarande inmatningsenheterna och då i synnerhet tangentbordet.

14-tummaren gör heller ingen besviken vad gäller prestanda eller fläkt/temperaturhantering. Datorn är tyst, blir inte för varm och låter processorn utnyttja sin prestandapotential riktigt bra. HP har också ökat batterikapaciteten, vilket resulterar i en batteritid på nästan 10 timmar. Den marginella uppdateringen av årets Elitebook blir framförallt uppenbar när man ser portarna: allt det viktigaste ingår, men ingen framtidssäker Thunderbolt 3-port.

Det största problemet är däremot den undermåliga TN-panelen. Ljusstyrkan och upplösningen får godkänt, men panelen är en besvikelse i alla andra avseenden. De begränsade betraktningsvinklarna är ett märkbart problem. En sådan panel bör inte förekomma i den här prisklassen. Om du är intresserad av Elitebook 840 ska du definitivt satsa på modellen med IPS-panel.
