När vi recenserade Core i5-versionen av EliteBook x360 1030 G3 sa vi att det var den bästa omvandlingsbara företagsmaskinen på 13 tum, med fler funktioner och en mer ljusstark skärm än en typisk flaggskepps-Ultrabook. Detta gäller även Core i7-konfigurationen men med en nackdel: den är inte särskilt mycket snabbare än det billigare Core i5-8250U-alternativet. Faktum är att våra resultat visade att i7-processorn konsekvent var långsammare än i5-processorn på grund av att den förstnämnda ströps kraftigare. I kontrast till detta är Core i7 Yoga C930 snabbare än Core i5 Yoga C930, särskilt när den utsätts för hög processorstress, så vi blev besvikna över att se det motsatta på en av HP:s bästa subnotebook-modeller.
EliteBook x360 1030 G3 är fortfarande riktigt värd att rekommendera då dess övriga kvaliteter vida överstiger de få negativa egenskaperna. Men med det sagt föreslår vi att hoppa över Core i7-8650U SKU:n och använda de extra pengarna till praktiska tillval som Sure View, bakgrundsbelysningens "Utomhusläge" på 700 nit, 4G LTE och kanske till och med en extern Thunderbolt Dock G2 eller en skärm.
Core i7 SKU:n kostar minst 2.000 eller 3.000 kronor mer än Core i5 SKU:n och dess prestandafördelar - eller snarare brist på sådana - rättfärdigar inte den extra kostnaden. Core i5 SKU:n är fortsatt det bästa alternativet EliteBook x360 1030 G3 har att erbjuda.
