EliteBook x360 1040 G5 är allt som vi gillade med EliteBook x360 1030 G3 men med en rymligare skärm på 14 tum. Den kan bäst beskrivas som en Spectre x360 13 på överväxel i fråga om funktionalitet och säkerhet. Du kommer inte att kunna hitta en annan omvandlingsbar på 14 tum med ett bättre tangentbord och som dessutom har Thunderbolt 3, 4G LTE, utmärkta högtalare, en superljusstark skärm på 700 nit och riktigt lång batteritid. Det är så nära en "ultimat" Windowsbaserad omvandlingsbar för den som reser ofta som man kan komma.
Det finns ett par viktiga brister att tänka på. För det första så reducerar den antireflexbehandlade matta tryckkänsliga skärmen reflektioner på den dyra bekostnaden av ökad grynighet. En del användare kanske inte störs av detta, men den som är van vid skarpa blanka skärmar med snabba responstider kommer märka att den matta tryckkänsliga skärmen ser anskrämlig ut. Som tur är finns ett alternativ i form av en vanlig blank (BrightView) skärm.
För det andra ligger processorns prestanda återigen under genomsnittet på grund av begränsad Turbo Boost. Förhoppningsvis kommer detta inte bli en trend för EliteBook x360-serien, för vi noterade liknande resultat på EliteBook x360 1030 G3. Det känns helt enkelt inte rätt när den billigare Core i7-8550U som sitter i Lenovo Yoga C930 presterar nästan 20 procent bättre än den förmodat snabbare Core i7-8650U som sitter i vår HP.
Till sist låter fläkten mer högfrekvent än vi hade förväntat oss från en Ultrabook. Vi misstänker att de små fläktarna på ~30 mm är ansvariga då frekvensen naturligtvis blir högre allt eftersom diametern minskar. Detta innebär inte att datorn är högljudd, men fläktarna märks ändå när de drar igång.
Vi kan verkligen rekommendera EliteBook x360 1040 G5. Inte bara till företagskunder som reser mycket utan även åt vanliga användare som kan tänkas överväga en Ultrabook-modell. Till och med den billigaste SKU:n kan erbjuda lika mycket som någon annan omvandlingsbar Ultrabook. Spara några tusen kronor på att inte välja Core i7-varianterna och ta istället en med Core i5. Systemet kan inte riktigt få ut den fulla potentialen ur Core i7-serien på grund av begränsad Turbo Boost.
Det här är den omvandlingsbara 14-tummaren andra kommer vilja försöka överträffa. De få nackdelarna förtar inte den långa listan över fördelar och den har hårdvarualternativ som de flesta andra subnotebook-modeller inte har alls, vilket inkluderar 4G LTE och en tryckkänslig skärm på 700 nit. Om GPU-prestanda är viktigt kan dock Acer Swift 7 eller Surface Book 2 vara bättre alternativ.
