HP uppnår precis vad vi förväntat oss med ZBook 14u: Allt det väsentliga och säkerhetsfunktionerna från den klassiska ZBook-serien sammanställt i ett lågpris-paket. Hårdvaran i enheten består av en mix av instegs- och arbetsstationsprodukter. Höljet är väldigt välgjort och innehåller både plast- och metallelement. Tack vare sin vikt på 1.7 kg visar sig denna nya arbetsstation vara en trevlig kamrat. Inmatningsenheterna är också av hög kvalitet och användare som skriver mycket kommer vara nöjda med dem. TN-skärmen som var en del av vår konfiguration besviker dock en aning. Direkt efter uppackning lider den av en synbar blå ton. Detta är dock avhjälp av en kalibrering. Potentiella köpare, som inte alltid kommer ha enheten dockad, borde överväga att skaffa en IPS-skärm.
Prestandadragen är dock huvudpoängen här. En dual-kärnad processor är tillräckligt för den här enheten. Denna CPU är vanligast i instegslaptops med låg TDP. Den presterar särskilt dåligt i flerkärniga prestandatester, jämfört med resten av konkurrensen. En positiv punkt: Oavsett vilken belastning så stryps inte CPU:n. Den andra viktiga komponenten är AMD FirePro W4190M. Tyvärr är denna GPU från 2015, vilket syns tydligt i testresultaten. Likväl får den bättre resultat än konventionella laptops i arbetsstations-relaterade prestandatester. Men ZBook 14u kan inte nå upp till enheterna vi har valt i jämförelsesyfte.
Till sist fokuserar vi på batteritiden och fastslår att ZBook är kapabel att överleva en lång arbetsdag på kontoret. Här är det bara Lenovo ThinkPad P51s som kunde uppnå bättre resultat.
ZBook 14u är en blandning av en arbetsstation utan kompromisser och en instegsmaskin. Helhetsintrycket förstörs av en förlegad grafikenhet.
Dom som vill ha mer CPU-prestanda och en riktig fyrkärnig processor borde ta en titt på dom enheter vi har valt i jämförelsesyfte. Lenovo ThinkPad P51s vinner ett poäng för sin uthållighet. Dell Precision 3520 får stora poäng för sin prestanda medans Apple MacBook Pro får poäng för utmärkt skärm och materialval.
