Man kan förvänta sig en allmän prestandanivå som ligger väldigt nära förra generationens Skull Canyon-NUC samtidigt som den är tystare, svalare och har ett lägre utgångspris. Tillägget av Thunderbolt 3 innebär att det går att kombinera systemet med en extern grafikdocka för spel eller andra krävande uppgifter, vilket ytterligare ökar systemets mångsidighet.
NUC8-serien står särskilt ut på grund av alternativet för en Coffee Lake-U CPU och i det fallet skiljer sig resultaten åt lite mer. Iris Plus Graphics 655 är 5 till 30 procent snabbare än AMD Vega 10 förutsatt att du utrustar NUC med dubbelkanals-RAM, men CPU-prestandan är inte särskilt mycket bättre än för den billigare i7-8550U. Dess högre TDP-värde är i huvudsak för att driva Iris-GPU:n och således utnyttjar processorn inte det högre TDP-taket nämnvärt bortsett från en initial och kortlivad explosion av Turbo Boost-hastighet.
För 4K-ströming och HTPC-syften är de billigare minidatorerna ZBox eller NUC7 med i5-8250U respektive i7-8550U tillräckligt. NUC8 är bäst för den som vill utnyttja Thunderbolt 3-porten och pressa Iris Plus-grafiken till sin fulla potential.
