I det tjusiga och kompakta metallhöljet sitter en Ryzen 5 4500U APU som levererar tillräckligt med kraft för kontors- och internetapplikationer. En integrerad Vega 6 GPU gör det möjligt att spela en del datorspel som inte har för höga systemkrav. En fördel är att APU:n kan köras i höga Turbo-hastigheter under längre perioder.

IdeaPad 5 14ARE05 är en mobil, uthållig och högpresterande subnotebook på 14 tum.

APU:n har tillgång till 8 GB RAM (dubbla kanaler, fastlött). Det går inte att utöka minnet eftersom det inte finns några lediga platser. Vi rekommenderar därför en IdeaPad-modell med minst 16 GB RAM, vilket ger en viss framtidssäkring. Vidare går det att byta ut den inbyggda NVMe SSD-enheten. Det går också att installera en andra NVMe SSD. Oavsett så behöver man öppna höljet.

IPS-skärmen har Full HD-upplösning och gjorde oss nöjda med stabila betraktningsvinklar, en matt yta, skaplig färgåtergivning och bra ljusstyrka. Däremot övertygade inte färgomfånget och kontrastförhållandet. Där hade vi förväntat oss mer. Det bakgrundsbelysta tangentbordet lämnade ett gott intryck; det passar bra för vanligt skrivarbete.

Batteritiden var generellt sett riktigt bra. Men vi hade ändå väntat oss mer. Acer Swift 3 SF314-42-modellerna som vi nyss recenserat (Ryzen 3 4300U, Ryzen 7 4700U) hade mycket bättre uthållighet trots lägre batterikapacitet (48.85 Wh vs. 56.5 Wh). Lenovo Vantage-mjukvarans batterisparläge påverkar inte batteritiden. På den punkten finns det fortfarande potential för optimering från Lenovos håll.
