Lenovo har gjort ett totalt sett bra jobb med ThinkPad L14 och den fortsätter att lägga emfas på Lenovos traditionella styrkor såsom ett robust hölje av hög kvalitet, ett trevligt tangentbord, enkel service och ett intressant utbud av portar och anslutningar som inkluderar kontorsfunktioner som smartcard-läsare och dockningsport.
Däremot har Lenovo missat chansen att förbättra svagheterna som L490 led av, som den mörka skärmen eller de allmänt dåliga högtalarna som saknar både volym och bas. I synnerhet är skärmen Lenovo valt en öm punkt och vi hade gärna sett ett mer genomtänkt val.
Den största vinsten för L-serien är att den kommer med AMD:s Ryzen 5 4500U. När vi recenserade ThinkPad E14 och T14 visade sig AMD-varianterna prestera mycket bättre än Intel-motsvarigheterna, vilket också gäller L14. AMD är helt enkelt bättre.
Vi kunde inte notera någon strypning eller något prestandatapp i vår CineBench-loop. Som jämförelse tenderade Intels processorer att tappa en hel del prestanda efter första omgången på grund av strypning. Priset man får betala för den ökade prestandan är aningen högre energiförbrukning och högre yttemperaturer på undersidan vid belastning. GPU:ns jämförelsevis dåliga prestanda går att åtgärda genom att lägga till en andra RAM-modul.
AMD innebär en frisk fläkt för Lenovos ThinkPad-serie och ändrar de traditionella reglerna. Intels dominans bryts när AMD inte bara har lägre priser utan också betydligt högre prestanda. Vi kan därmed inte göra annat än att återigen varmt rekommendera AMD-varianten framför sin Intel-motsvarighet.
