Lenovo P52s befinner sig i ett besynnerligt läge. Lenovos försök att gifta energieffektiva komponenter med en enhet i arbetsstationsklass blie en berättelse om kompromisser. Även om målet med en ULV-driven arbetsstation är närmare än någonsin tack vare Intels Kaby Lake R-serie så finns det fortfarande mycket utrymme för förbättring.
Den svagaste punkten ligger i grafikprestandan. Med tanke på att P52s positionerar sig själv som en arbetsstation så är den dåliga grafikprestandan nedslående. Dom flesta proffs hade klarat sig bättre med en kontorslaptop utrustad med ett Nvidia MX150 eller GTX 1050 då dessa erbjuder bättre grafikprestanda utan särskilt mycket sämre energieffektivitet eller batteritid. Jämfört med andra tunna-och-lätta arbetsstationer så saknar P52s kraft men kompenserar för detta tillkortakommande med vida överlägsen batteritid.
Hur står sig denna specifika variant? Är 4K-skärmen värd den extra kostnaden? Med tanke på svaga Quadro P500 så är uppgraderingen inte värt det. Dom flesta applikationer kommer ändå tvingas köras i Full HD på grund av för få grafiska hästkrafter, vilket tar bort fördelarna med en mer högupplöst panel. Dessutom uppstår fel och renderingsproblem när skärmens 4K-upplösning används fullt ut.
Totalt sett så är även 4K-varianten av P52s, likt Full HD-modellen, en besvikelse. Än värre är att dom klagomål vi haft förstoras ytterligare här, på grund av svag GPU, buggiga drivrutiner och totalt sett för svag prestanda för en arbetsstation.
Den som behöver en kompakt arbetsstation borde ta en titt på vad Dell eller MSI erbjuder. Alla andra borde istället acceptera en viss ökning i tjocklek och köpa en fullfjädrad arbetsstation såsom ThinkPad P51.
