Vi håller det kort den här gången: ThinkPad T490s är en riktigt bra företagslaptop och med den nya skärmen är den ett av de bästa alternativen som finns för tillfället. Campus-varianten som bara kostar 12.590 kronor är dessutom ett riktigt kap.
Vi skulle kunna avsluta vårt omdöme där, men situationen är en aning mer komplex när man jämför ThinkPad T490s med sin föregångare och Lenovos andra bärbara datorer på 14 tum. Om vi tar en titt på det nuvarande utbudet av högkvalitativa företagsmodeller ser vi att de olika serierna är mer lika varandra än någonsin tidigare. Detta inkluderar T490, T490s, X1 Carbon samt nya X390, som till och med har samma moderkort som T490s. Det finns förstås en del skillnader, men som konsument får man fyra i princip identiska system så länge man tittar på likvärdigt utrustade varianter, och då har vi inte ens inkluderat konkurrerande modeller från andra tillverkare.
Tidigare har T4x0s-modellerna oftast varit tunnare versioner av T4x0, som vanligen hade bättre komponenter och inte hamnade efter i fråga om prestanda. Detta har ändrats i och med T490s. Det nya chassit är förvisso lyckat och kvaliteten är också ett steg upp jämfört med vanliga T490, men T490s hamnar efter när det kommer till prestanda. Detta inkluderar förstås grafikkortet, för det finns inte längre något alternativ för en dedikerad GPU, men det gäller också processorns prestanda. Den sistnämnda lider av en mindre kraftfull kyllösning och föregångaren var till och med en aning snabbare.
ThinkPad T490s är i vårt tycke snarare en billig version av X1 Carbon (eller en X1 Carbon Lite). Den är en aning större och tyngre men har liknande prestandasiffror och en identisk design på tangentbordet. Tangentbordet är förresten på samma nivå som på den dyrare X1 Carbon och är subjektivt sett en aning bättre än det som sitter i T490 eller i konkurrerande modeller från Dell, Fujitsu eller HP. T490s har en portsituation som också påminner oss om X1 Carbon, vilket inkluderar den svårnådda microSD-läsaren.
Vi uppskattade de extra skärmalternativen och den matta Lågenergi-skärmen på 1080p som vi recenserat lämnade ett gott intryck, dock med undantag för de långsamma responstiderna. Vi tror att det kommer vara det populäraste skärmalternativet för både T490s och den ordinarie T490. Den har riktigt bra ljusstyrka, bildkvaliteten drar nytta av det höga kontrastförhållandet och innehållet är inte grynigt trots den matta ytan. Skärmen täcker dessutom det mindre sRGB-omfånget och den har riktigt låg nivå av färgavvikelser, särskilt efter kalibrering. Detta innebär att skärmen även passar bra till en del bildbehandling – T490s hade kanske till och med varit ett intressant alternativ för fotografer om den bara hade haft en SD-kortläsare i full storlek.
Tunnare chassi, bättre skärm, bättre tangentbord, längre batteritid – lägre CPU-prestanda, ingen dedikerad GPU, kompromisser när det gäller portar och kraftigt begränsade servicemöjligheter. Beroende på dina förväntningar kommer T490s antingen vara utmärkt eller en stor besvikelse.
T490s är för tillfället bättre än sina rivaler, för det är helt enkelt ett riktigt komplett paket i kategorin för kontors/företagsenheter. Den har en del brister, men många av dem står i relation till den föregående modellen och konkurrenterna är heller inte perfekta. Vi ger därför T490s vår utmärkelse Redaktörens Val. Konkurrenterna kommer också att uppdatera sina serier under de kommande veckorna, så rankingen kan snart komma att ändras. Lenovo kommer troligen stå för rejäl konkurrens med sina kommande AMD-motsvarigheter.
