GF72VR är MSI:s senaste försök att erbjuda ytterligare ett alternativ för konsumenter som söker en prisvärd men kraftfull spelmaskin. Tyvärr så missar datorn oftare än den träffar rätt. Även om tangentbordet är utmärkt, skärmen har starka, rika färger och inkluderingen av en hög skärmuppdateringsfrekvens är väldigt välkommen så finns det ett flertal andra tillkortakommanden som håller laptopen tillbaka.
Det största problemet är värmehantering. Den robusta kyllösningen resulterar i fläktar som är högljudda och irriterande. Interna komponenter hålls relativt svala på bekostnad av höga nivåer oljud, ett byte många troligen inte vill göra. Även den dedikerade "Fan Boost" resulterar inte i mycket; för trots att ökningen av fläktljudet är drastiskt så är förbättringarna i temperatur och prestanda små. Högtalarna är också bristfälliga, men ljudkvaliteten kan lätt rättas till med hjälp av ett par kvalitetshörlurar.
När allt är sagt och gjort så bekräftar GF72VR återigen MSI:s "spaghetti"-inställning till spellaptops; tillverkaren verkar kastar allt mot väggen för att se vad som fastnar. För även om GF72VR inte på något sätt är en dålig dator så kompromissar den med för mycket jämfört med dom andra konsument-modellerna från MSI, GP72VR och GE72VR.
Lanseringen av GF72VR fortsätter att röra till MSI:s redan röriga produktkatalog och kommer troligen bara skapa mer intern konkurrens för företaget. Enheten gör lite för att stå ut från mängden och kommer troligen bli förbisedd för datorer med bredare uppsättningar av funktioner, varav många tillverkas av MSI själva.
