Den första GS60 var före sin tid. Den supertunna chassikonstruktionen och 4K UHD-alternativen var dåliga kombinationer med Broadwell- och Maxwell-kretsar, även om chassit var visuellt tilltalande. Lyckligtvis har både Intel och Nvidia i någon mån kommit ifatt MSI:s ursprungliga vision: att leverera spelprestanda på entusiastnivå i en supertunn MacBook Pro-liknande bärbar dator.
Kaby Lake och Pascal presterade riktigt bra utan några större problem med strypning under vår tid med enheten. Det i kombination med systemets låga vikt bärbarhet resulterar i en maskin som är till synes perfekt för både skolarbete och äkta gaming.
Nackdelarna är tydliga och varierade. GS63VR kan visserligen överträffa XPS 15, MacBook Pro 15 och till och med den stora ROG G752, men förvänta dig en hel del fläktljud under användning. Batteritid, ljudkvalitet och skärmens ljusstyrka kunde ha varit bättre, och ett verkligt "tyst läge" med låg effektförbrukning under t.ex. ordbehandling hade varit välkommet.
Basmodellen med 1080p-skärm är lättare att rekommendera än 4K-alternativet, om inte spel med låga/mediuminställningar utan G-Sync låter tilltalande. GTX 1060 gör sig fortfarande bäst i 1080p. Dessutom har 1080p-panelen högre kontrast och bättre färger än 4K-panelen till ett lägre pris.
GS63VR är lite tystare än GS60 samtidigt som den bjuder på massiva förbättringar vad gäller prestandan. Men även om spel är det viktigaste i det här sammanhanget bör inte skärm, batteritid och ett robust chassi underskattas, vilket är detaljer som inte förbättrats lika mycket som hårdvaran inuti.
