Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Prisskiktet kring 4.500 kronor är en tuff marknad där ytterligare konkurrens uppstår i form av tidigare års flaggskeppsenheter som nu gått ner i pris. På papperet såg det ut som att Nokia 8.1 skulle behöva kämpa mot modeller som Sony Xperia XZ2, men HMD Global har gjort ett utmärkt jobb med att skapa en välavrundad smartphone som har mycket att erbjuda. 

Enheten har en tjusig och lyxig design som till och med kan stå sig mot dyrare telefoner. Vidare kan dess moderna SoC tävla med äldre flaggskeppsmodellers motsvarigheter och den har en enastående batteritid. Skärmen är dessutom precis lika ljusstark som de som återfinns i förra årets flaggskeppsmodeller och har inga problem med att befinna sig i direkt solljus. Dessutom imponerade kamerorna i våra tester, även om de saknar en del av de gimmicks som många flaggskeppstelefoner har.

Nokia 8.1 klarar grunderna bra och avvarar tramsigheter för att sudda ut gränsen mellan mittenskiktet och flaggskeppsmodellerna.

Nokia 8.1 har dock sina brister. HMD Global har utrustat den med långsam eMMC-lagring och den har färre LTE-band än vi hade önskat. Dessutom har skärmen en jämförelsevis hög svärta och ett svagt kontrastförhållande. Men om du är något av en Android-purist och vill ha en flaggskeppsnära upplevelse till ett överkomligt pris bör Nokia 8.1 finnas med på listan över modeller att överväga.
