Med sin slående baksida av glas är utsidan på Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) en riktig höjdpunkt. Den har också bra tillverkningskvalitet, även om vår specifika testenhet hade några mindre brister. Precis som Samsung gör oftare än inte så väljer den Koreanska tillverkaren att utrusta den nyaste familjemedlemmen i Galaxy A-serien med en riktigt bra OLED-skärm. I fråga om färgåtergivning och ljusstyrka tävlar Galaxy A9 (2018) i toppen av sin liga. Detsamma går dock inte att säga om hur systemet presterar med fabriksinställningar. På grund av de förinstallerade animationerna känns denna mittenskiktstelefon aningen långsam — det enda botemedlet är att ta bort dessa genom menyn för utvecklaralternativ.
Det inbyggda chippet lämnar också rum för kritik. Alla telefoner från de övre skicken behöver förstås inte jämföras med Xiaomis Pocophone F1, men den Kinesiska tillverkaren lyckades utrusta sin mittenskiktsenhet med Qualcomms senaste toppskikts-chipp. Som ett resultat kunde Samsung åtminstone ha utrustat Galaxy A9 (2018), som ändå har ett rekommenderat pris på 6.000 kronor, med förra årets bäst presterande chipp — med tanke på att man ändå valde en SoC från 2017.
Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) är en bra och riktigt attraktiv mittenskiktstelefon — men för det aktuella butikspriset på runt 4.800 kronor finns det bättre alternativ på marknaden.
Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) har ett unikt säljargument i form av en quad-kamera på baksidan — som kan användas på många olika sätt tack vare sina fyra olika linser. Den kombinerar alla de vanliga fördelarna med multi-kameror (bokeh-effekt, ultra-vidvinkel, optisk zoom) i en och samma enhet. Men man bör inte dra några slutsatser om huvudkamerans kvalitet utifrån det rekommenderade priset. Kameran är riktigt snabb, men i fråga om bildkvalitet presterar den inte bättre än genomsnittet för telefoner i mittenskiktet.
