Omdöme - Galaxy Book S befinner sig i ett klurigt läge

Det är inte lätt att lämna ett omdöme på Samsungs Galaxy Book S utrustad med Intels nya hybridprocessor. Den första rivalen är förstås ARM-modellen, som kostar ungefär lika mycket. Den har en del fördelar, som extremt lång batteritid och förstås en inbyggd LTE-modul. Båda versionerna är passivt kylda. Intel-modellen har däremot en skärm med ett mycket mer ljusstarkt Outdoor+ läge och har förstås stöd för 64 bit-appar, så du kan använda Intel-versionen av Galaxy Book S som en "vanlig" Windows-laptop.
Vilket leder oss till nästa jämförelse, för det går att få betydligt kraftigare enheter för ca 11.000 kronor. De kommer vara en aning tyngre och inte passivt kylda, men kan istället ha längre batteritid, jämförbara skärmar och mycket mer prestanda. Särskilt prestandan är något som definitivt kommer att märkas de kommande åren. Det är också därför vi inte kan rekommendera Galaxy Book S med en Intel-processor.
Galaxy Book S med en ARM-processor har en del fördelar jämfört med "vanliga" Windows-laptops. En Intel CPU förbättrar kompatibiliteten, men en del regioner blir utan LTE-modem och dessutom är batteritiden mycket kortare. Totalt sett erbjuder konkurrenterna helt enkelt mer för pengarna.
Den nya Lakefield-processorn är ganska intressant, men den kräver stöd från programmen. I värsta fall får du samma prestanda som en fyrkärnig Atom-processor. Den kan bli riktigt effektiv när den fungerar, men vi får vänta och se om konceptet blir framgångsrikt. Vi kommer att repetera en del tester så snart Samsung har släppt uppdateringen som ska öka processorns energiförbrukning.
