I teorin, och enligt specifikationerna på pappret, borde Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra erbjuda i princip allt du kan tänkas önska dig. Tyvärr finns det en del områden där den inte lyckas möta våra toppskikts-krav.
För det första måste vi prata om dess SoC. Europa är den enda regionen där Samsung fortfarande säljer sina flaggskeppstelefoner från Galaxy-serien med sin egna Exynos SoC. Även om den presterade långsammare i en del tester så var det inte i huvudsak det som gjorde oss besvikna. Skadan är större än så. Bland annat saknar 5G-modemet stöd för mmWave trots att det i teorin borde finnas stöd för den tekniken. Dessutom presterade Exynos 990 riktigt dåligt vid ihållande belastning. Huruvida detta beror på en dåligt designad kylare eller på medioker chippdesign återstår att se. Det enda sättet att avgöra detta är genom en direkt jämförelse mellan de två modellerna, men det har vi ännu inte provat.
Galaxy S20 Ultra har potentialen att bli en toppskiktstelefon, men med sin alldeles egna uppsättning frustrationsmoment passar den användare med mycket tålamod.
Ett annat möjligt problem är skärmen. Även om den har fantastiska färger och kan bli riktigt ljusstark är 120 Hz-läget mer än frustrerande. Den snabba bilduppdateringen stöds bara vid en reducerad FHD+-upplösning, vilket helt enkelt är för lågt för en skärm i den här storleken. Spel känner dessutom inte av 120 Hz-förmågan alls. Vi lyckades inte uppnå en bilduppdatering högre än 60 FPS i något av spelen vi testade.
Höjdpunkten med S20 Ultra är utan tvekan kameran; en stor sensor på 108 MP, 100x zoom, vidvinkelslins och mer bling-bling än du kan ana. Men när man fotar inser man plötsligt att Samsung misslyckats med att implementera pålitlig autofokus. Ett batteri på 5.000 mAh borde resultera i extremt lång batteritid. Det kan man tänka, men våra tester visade att det fanns ordentligt med rum för förbättring.
