Två år är en evighet i datorvärlden, och det är minst så länge sedan Toshiba förändrade designen av sin ultralätta bärbara. Trots det är Z30t-B1320 fortfarande lätt på vågen: 1,33 kg. Så för att förbli relevant återstår endast – tack vare den smarta magnesiumlegeringen och bra porturvalet – en uppdatering av de interna komponenterna .
Tack vare Broadwellkretsen är det här den bästa modellen av Z30 hittills. Prestandan är bra överlag, liksom batteritiden, och chassits temperaturer är låga (med bekväm ventilplacering och smart termisk design). Inmatningsenheterna är fortfarande ganska bra och skärmen har bra färgåtergivning, tillräckligt hög upplösning och bra ljusstyrka/kontrast.
Däremot är pekskärmen – oavsett sina övriga förtjänster – otroligt grynig tack vare filtret som applicerats (vilket resulterar i en halvmatt yta). Chassit står visserligen stadigt, men har ett väldigt tunt lock som är lätt att vrida. Underhåll av datorn är fortfarande löjligt krångligt, med skruvar gömda under flera gummifötter, vilket är tabu för en företagsmaskin. Slutligen är högtalarna sämre än vissa av konkurrenterna, med burkigt ljud utan bas.
Dessutom håller konkurrenterna jämna steg. Dell Latitude 7000-serien och Lenovo ThinkPad-maskinerna regerar fortfarande vad gäller inmatningsenheterna och har kraftigare chassin som är mycket lättare att underhålla.
HP Elitebooks är dyra, men väl värda att överväga om du är på jakt efter en kontorsmaskin. Och vissa ”konsumentmaskiner” har, trots sin brist på Ethernet och dockningsstationsportar, också gjort framsteg. Ett exempel är topprankade XPS 13. Portege Z30t är dock fortfarande en solid utmanare, som trots sin ålder förtjänar att övervägas.
