Acer Swift Go 14 recension - Meteor Lake Core Ultra 7 imponerar med sin AI-kärna

CPU, GPU och nu NPU

Åtminstone sedan Pixel 6 har co-processorer för AI-applikationer hittat sin väg till smartphones. Nu finns de neurala nätverksacceleratorerna även på bärbara Windows-datorer, t.ex. Acer Swift Go 14 med Intel Core Ultra 7 155H. Detta är en av de första processorerna för bärbara datorer med en NPU.

Det har inte ens gått två månader sedan vi testade Acer Swift Go 14. Den imponerade på oss med bra prestanda till ett överkomligt pris. Vår nuvarande granskningsenhet levereras med Intels senaste processorgeneration. Acer Swift Go 14 - som kommer att finnas tillgänglig nästa vår - har en Intel Core Ultra 155H. Ur hårdvarusynpunkt har Acer försett oss med en bärbar dator baserad på standardspecifikationen. Men till våren kommer det fortfarande att finnas mindre förbättringar av den medföljande programvaran, prestandahanteringen och BIOS. Av denna anledning kommer vi inte att tilldela ett betyg förrän vi ser vilka framtida förbättringar Intels senaste processorgeneration ger denna premiummodell med OLED-skärm.

I vissa benchmarks registrerade vi mer än dubbelt så hög prestanda jämfört med föregångaren som hade en Intel Core i5-1335U. Dessutom kommer Intels nya Arc iGPU utan tvekan att glädja många spelare med Intels grafik som nu åtminstone är i nivå med Radeon RX 780M.

Intel själva jämför ofta sina nya processorer med AMD:s Ryzen R7 7840U och av den anledningen kommer vi att ta en titt på HP Pavillon Plus 14 som levereras med både Intel- och AMD-processorvarianter, som en del av vår jämförelse. En ganska ovanlig representant kan komma i form av Ayaneo Air 1S, men den här enheten kommer också med AMD:s kraftfulla konkurrerande chip. Och slutligen, LG Gram 2in1 och Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 och deras 13:e generationens processor avslutar vår berömda grupp.

Fall - Vinkelformad aluminium

Även om det första intrycket tyder på att enheten inte har genomgått några förändringar, har vi ändå noterat att Acer har gjort detaljerade förbättringar av aluminiumhöljet. Den kantiga ramdesignen avslöjar inga tillverkningsfel och det betyder att vi nästan skulle kunna kopiera och klistra in hela beskrivningen av föregångaren. Acer har dock lyckats installera en betydligt större pekplatta, vilket resulterar i en märkbar förbättring av den bärbara datorns användbarhet.

Funktioner - grymt Wi-Fi och en fantastisk webbkamera

Det är möjligt att ansluta upp till tre bildskärmar till den lilla bärbara datorn via HDMI 2.1 och båda Thunderbolt 4-portarna. Den nuvarande Intel Meteor Lake-processorn stöder utdata till upp till fyra bildskärmar samtidigt. Acer har även lyckats få plats med en microSD-kortläsare och till och med en mini Kensington Lock-plats.

SD-kortläsare

Det finns inga förbättringar att se i microSD-kortläsaren. Med sin långsamma läshastighet på 28 MB/s är den jämförbar med förra årets modell och lämpar sig endast för små datamängder. Vårt AV Pro microSD är upp till tio gånger snabbare.

Kommunikation

I vårt Wi-Fi-test med iPerf3 och Asus GT-AXE11000 visade Acer Swift Go betydligt högre överföringshastigheter både i 5 GHz- och 6 GHz-nätverken. Med upp till 1,9 GBit/s går upp- och nedladdningar till ett hemmanätverk i rask takt.

Säkerhet

En fingeravtryckssensor, en Kensington Lock-plats och en TPM 2.0 finns ombord. Detta innebär att alla grundläggande säkerhetskrav för fysisk stöld och åtkomstskydd uppfylls.

Underhåll

Vi behövde en TX5-skruvmejsel och en sugkopp för att öppna Acer Swift Go. Precis som med föregångarenfinns många underhållsalternativ inuti den bärbara datorn. Två M.2-platser, (en upptagen) samt en installerad Wi-Fi-modul finns tillgängliga. Fläktarna kan enkelt tas bort för rengöringsändamål. Endast det generöst tilltagna 32 GB RAM-minnet är fastlödd. För övrigt kan den lediga M.2-platsen hittas under bandkabeln bredvid fläktarna.

Inmatningsenheter - En stor pekplatta


Tangentbord

Framför allt skulle den bakgrundsbelysta tangentens tryckpunkt kunna vara lite skarpare. I övrigt ger tangentbordet en behaglig skrivupplevelse. I mörka miljöer kan tangenternas bakgrundsbelysning justeras till två nivåer. I likhet med föregångaren kan det övre skalet också böjas något och detta kan irritera vissa användare när de trycker hårt på tangenterna.

Pekplatta

I den nya versionen har Acer avsevärt ökat storleken på Swift Go 14:s pekplatta, men radierna i hörnen finns kvar. Den här förändringen gynnar inte bara utseendet. I praktiken är många saker som dra och släpp och kopiering enklare att utföra. Klickplattan är nu 12 x 8 cm och erbjuder betydligt mer utrymme för inmatningar och geststyrning.

Display - 2,8K, 90Hz OLED och HDR500

Acer Swift Go-modellen med Meteor Lake-processor har nu en mycket ljusstarkare OLED-panel. Den kan nå 400 cd/m², och lite till, vid visning av HDR-innehåll. Djup svärta och höga kontrastnivåer är standard för den här typen av skärmteknik. Ljusstyrkan är jämn och vid en upplösning på 2,8K, i ett 14-tums (ca 36 cm) 16:10 bildförhållande, kan man knappt se enskilda pixlar med blotta ögat. Allt detta säkerställer att vi får njuta av en underbar bildkvalitet som kan lysa både utomhus och under studioljus.

Swift Gos nya AcerSense-app erbjuder fler skärmprofiler. Vi har dock ännu inte observerat några förändringar av de uppmätta värdena i de olika profilerna. Som nämndes inledningsvis arbetar Acer fortfarande med de sista detaljerna för den bärbara datorn.

Alla tre färgrymderna täcks nästan helt av den utmärkta OLED-skärmen. Endast Adobe RGB-färgrymden är 3 % under perfektion.

Hittills har de olika bildskärmsprofilerna inte visat några förbättringar av de uppmätta färgavvikelserna, som i sitt nuvarande tillstånd fortfarande är mycket höga. I Adobe RGB-färgrymden ger till exempel vår egen ICC-profil små förbättringar av färgåtergivningen. Vi kan också anta att Acer kommer att göra förbättringar på detta område i den färdiga programvaran.

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

The display backlight flickers at 300 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) .

The frequency of 300 Hz is relatively high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. However, there are reports that some users are still sensitive to PWM at 500 Hz and above, so be aware.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8705 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured.

Tack vare den höga ljusstyrkan fungerar Acer Swift Go bra i utomhussituationer trots att den har en blank skärm. Betraktningsvinkelanalysen avslöjade inte heller några avvikelser.

Prestanda - Meteor Lake förvandlar Swift Go till en liten spelmaskin

Den nya Acer Swift Go 14 har en Intel Meteor Lake-processor. För första gången har Intel Core Ultra 7 155H också en Arc iGPU Arc iGPU med åtta kärnor och en NPU. Enheten avrundas med 32 GB DDR5 RAM-minne och en SK Hynix 1 TB NVMe SSD.

 
 
 

Testförhållanden

Som nämndes i början är Acer Swift Go 14 som vi har att göra med en enhet som motsvarar standardspecifikationen för hårdvara. Vår granskningsmaskins programvara och firmware är ännu inte helt perfekta. I vår Swift Go 14 var till exempel värdena för boost-prestanda initialt konfigurerade något för höga. Under testets gång hade vi också problem med den förinstallerade AlterView som skapar visuellt lockande 3D-bakgrunder. Efter en livlig diskussion med Acer bestämde vi oss för att ta bort programvaran. Vi kunde också sänka PL2 till 55 watt medan vi lämnade PL1 på 45 watt, allt med hjälp av TechPowerUps Throttle Stop. Detta hjälpte den bärbara datorn att köras betydligt bättre och mer stabilt. Acer kommer att genomföra några betydligt mer detaljerade finjusteringar när det gäller den slutliga prestandahanteringen. Detta bör resultera i att den bärbara datorn får bättre prestanda än vad den har för närvarande.

Processor

Intels nya processor för med sig några efterlängtade förändringar. För första gången erbjuder chipet med 7 nm tillverkningsprocess nu en NPU och den nya Arc iGPU. Den Core Ultra 7 155H har sex P-kärnor, åtta E-kärnor och ytterligare två LP E-kärnor som sägs vara särskilt energieffektiva. Detta innebär att totalt 22 trådar är tillgängliga.

Den senaste Intel-processorgenerationen har ingen tydlig prestandafördel jämfört med sin mest likartade föregångare från 13:e generationen. Här har vi att göra med två enheter med Intel Core i7-13700H. På samma sätt erbjuder den sex P- och åtta E-kärnor. Det är bara de båda strömsnåla E-kärnorna som saknas. Intels senaste processor brukar klara sig bra jämfört med sin direkta konkurrent, AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. På senare tid (och överraskande) har det röda laget nu näsan framför när det gäller enkelkärnig prestanda i Cinebench R23. NPU-prestanda

En Neural Processing Unit finns inuti Intel Core Ultra 7 155H. Denna del av processorn har till uppgift att bearbeta AI-applikationer mycket effektivt. Det innebär att modeller som Stable Diffusion eller språkmodeller redan kan köras på enheten. Med hjälp av UL Procyon AI Interface benchmark har vi ställt GPU:n mot NPU:n och samtidigt kontrollerat strömförbrukningen. I båda scenarierna blev det snabbt tydligt att NPU:ns prestanda bara var något lägre än Arc iGPU:ns när det gällde att bearbeta neurala nätverk, men att energibehovet nästan var halverat. Detta gör definitivt AI-acceleratorn mer effektiv än grafikchippet för samma tillämpningar.

Därför är det tänkbart att många av de AI-applikationer som för närvarande körs via molnet snart kan köras lokalt på den bärbara datorn på ett energieffektivt sätt, utan behov av internetanslutning.

Intel var vänliga nog att förse oss med en version av Gimp som redan innehåller Stable Diffusion med OpenVINO och NPU-stöd. Efter en lång installation fungerade text-till-bild-programmet förvånansvärt snabbt. Fram till nu har det varit möjligt att köra Stable Diffusion på Arc-grafikkort.

Visserligen är inte alla bilder som skapas av det neurala nätverket särskilt användbara. Stable Diffusion har bara en begränsad förmåga att hantera ansikten, fötter och händer, betraktade på avstånd. Men de uppgifter du ställer till programmet bör också definieras så tydligt som möjligt. Viss erfarenhet är nödvändig på detta område för att säkerställa att man får det man bett om.

Utsläpp - förblir mestadels tyst

Trots den höga prestandan har nya Acer Swift Go inte blivit mer högljudd. Med nästan 45 dB(A) under full belastning kan man inte riktigt kalla den tyst, men den är acceptabel. Acer Swift Go hanterar vanligtvis små och medelstora uppgifter utan att fläkten hörs.

Temperatur

Det som tyvärr inte har förändrats är den bärbara datorns mycket höga yttemperaturer som vi uppmätte under testningen. Baren bakom tangentbordet lyckades till och med nå 40 °C. Det område som värms upp mest är dock skärmen, mot vilken fläktens utblåsta luft riktas. Trots detta, under normal drift när du surfar på internet eller använder kontorsapplikationer, värms den bärbara datorns yta bara upp till lite över rumstemperatur.

Stresstest

Som redan nämnts ställde vi in processorns boostprestanda till en nivå något under Acers inställda värde. Vårt stresstest avslöjade att Core Ultra 7:s inställning för kontinuerlig prestanda (PL1) ligger något för högt. Efter ett tag lägger den sig på cirka 43 watt istället för 45 men lyckas behålla sin prestandanivå där i det långa loppet.

Högtalare

Överlag låter högtalarna i Acer Swift Go bra. Det är bara basen som skulle kunna vara lite mer kraftfull. Vi kunde inte urskilja någon skillnad mot föregångaren.

Energihantering - Meteor Lake kan vara ekonomiskt

Strömförbrukning

Intels nya Meteor Lake-processorer sägs vara betydligt mer energieffektiva än sina föregångare. Detta var inte helt uppenbart för oss i våra tester, men det understryker återigen den installerade programvarans betastatus. Starka fluktuationer syns i nästan alla energimätningar, vilket tyder på mindre belastningstoppar.

Batteriets livslängd

Acer Swift Go 14, med sin Intel Meteor Lake-processor och 65 Wh-batteri, nådde precis inte upp till åtta timmar i testet för Wi-Fi-internetsurfning. Enligt våra energimätningar är det OLED-panelen som förbrukar mest ström när du surfar. Att besöka webbplatser och köra applikationer i mörkt läge borde kunna förbättra drifttiden avsevärt. Med föregångaren var det möjligt med nästan 45 extra driftminuter.

Acer har fått Swift Go 14 till oss ganska långt innan enheten når marknaden och det betyder att allt inte fungerar perfekt. Men vi har redan haft chansen att uppleva Intels senaste processorgeneration och vi blev imponerade av Meteor Lake-chipets grafikprestanda på hög nivå. Vi kommer att hålla ett öga på förändringar i enheten under våren nästa år och sedan leverera vårt slutliga omdöme om Swift Go 14 (2024). Det har dock redan kommit till vår kännedom att den kompakta maskinen drar nytta av den betydligt kraftfullare Core Ultra 7. Den ökade grafikprestandan gör att den bärbara datorn och dess utmärkta OLED-skärm kan njuta av ett bredare applikationsspektrum. Detta gör åtminstone spel och videoredigering till en möjlighet. NPU-kärnan i Meteor Lake-processorn kunde också visa sin kraft i våra tester.

Acer Swift Go 14 väger 1,3 kg och är ett lättviktigt kraftpaket som har en avsevärd slagkraft i sitt eleganta fodral. Intels Meteor Lake-processor säkerställer ett betydligt bredare utbud av användningsområden.

Det råder ingen tvekan om att Swift Go 14 är en mobil enhet. Tack vare Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 och några ytterligare portar saknas inte anslutningsmöjligheter. Inom kort kommer det att finnas andra alternativ med Meteor Lake-processorer där Asus redan erbjuder ett sådant chipset i sin ZenBook 14. Den som är för otålig för att vänta på bärbara datorer med Intel-processorer bör ta en titt på 14-tums maskiner med AMD Ryzen 7 7840U, till exempel HP Pavilion Plus 14.

Pris och tillgänglighet

Swift Go 14 förväntas vara tillgänglig från februari 2024. Hittills har ett förväntat inköpspris på strax under 1 000 euro meddelats för Tyskland.
