Until I did the battery test I was all set to call this latest MateBook X one of the best compact laptops money can buy. The display, keyboard, speaker system and performance are all top-notch. It’s a very, very well-made laptop too and in the new white livery, it looks absolutely stunning. But that sub-seven-hour battery life is disappointing, especially when you consider how far it is from the Tiger Lake model we tested earlier in the year. It knocks some of the shine off MateBook X Pro, which is a shame because otherwise, it is an absolute cracker.

It's safe to say that - on the whole - the updated MateBook X Pro is a refinement of the original 2022 design. But arguably is the laptop that earlier version should have been. The updated magnesium alloy finish gives it a really lovely look and texture, the 14.2-inch display offers vivid but accurate colours and crisp detail, while the speakers elevate the experience. Plus, there's plenty of power here with efficient cooling that it copes with just about any task as long as you don't need something that needs a more powerful dedicated graphics processing unit. There's no denying it's an expensive machine, but given the improvements it seems - at least - that it's more worthy of that price tag than its predecessor was.

All in all, I think the Huawei MateBook X Pro has a lot to offer, and while it is a bit pricy, it’s not overly expensive for what you get. Again, the £1,799 price tag includes a fairly expensive monitor in the package, so this isn’t as expensive as it initially appears. For what you pay, you get a phenomenal display, great sound, premium build quality, and a good typing experience. You can’t ask for a lot more. Except, maybe, for it to be available in the United States. My biggest issues with the Huawei MateBook X Pro have to do with the built-in webcam and microphone setup, plus the lack of legacy ports is unfortunate. I also didn’t love some aspects of the touchpad, but you might be able to get used to how it works. As for the Huawei MateView SE, I’d say this is a nice monitor for the price. I find the lack of speakers a bit unfortunate because I would also like to hook up my Nintendo Switch to it, but if you’re only using a laptop, it probably already has better speakers than any monitor in this price range.

It's safe to say that - on the whole - the updated MateBook X Pro is a refinement of the original 2022 design. But arguably is the laptop that earlier version should have been. The updated magnesium alloy finish gives it a really lovely look and texture, the 14.2-inch display promises vivid but accurate colours, and there's plenty of power here with efficient cooling that it should cope with just about any task. There's no denying it's an expensive machine, but given the improvements it seems - at least - that it's more worthy of that price tag than its predecessor was.

Assuming it doesn’t somehow fall apart during our testing process - which we would be surprised to see - we’ll feel very comfortable recommending it to anyone looking for a lightweight new laptop. Reviewing the Huawei Matebook X Pro 2023, one of the best ultraportable laptops with smooth 13th Gen Intel performance and a glorious 3K display. The Huawei Matebook X Pro 2023 is an iterative update, so don't expect many upgrades vs the 2022 model if you already own that notebook. But newcomers will love this skinny, lightweight laptop, from creators doing photo and light video editing to mobile workers. Battery life is improved over last year's Matebook X Pro, but it's still the weak point here - you won't quite stretch to six hours of play, even if you're doing basic office tasks. Still, Huawei's ultraportable laptop is incredibly portable, and ideal for keeping you entertained on the go.

With its upgrades being entirely under the hood, this year’s Matebook X Pro is a modest refresh over the previous generation. But that’s no bad thing, given it was already a very capable ultraportable. The keyboard and touchpad are as slick as ever, the 3:2 aspect ratio touchscreen is work-friendly as well as pixel-packed. HDR support and some decent stereo speakers are great for slacking off, too. The 13th-gen Intel CPU only brings a minor performance boost, and dedicated GPUs remain off the table, so creatives and pros will still want to keep the Dell XPS 15 in mind. Battery life hasn’t really improved either, so sn M2-powered MacBook Air remains the best choice for all-day working away from the mains. We’re still fans of the Matebook’s styling, though, and can’t deny you’re getting a lot of machine for your money.

If you thought the previous generations Matebook X Pro was already expensive, well this new one is even more expensive. The 2024 Huawei Matebook X Pro now retails for PHP 129,999 for the Intel Ultra 9 variant with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Granted it is expensive, there’s no doubt about it. For the same price, you can get more capable and powerful gaming laptops with a proper NVIDIA or AMD GPU. The only downside is that they aren’t as portable as this one. If you’re still young and don’t mind carrying a more capable gaming laptop around for the roughly same price, then the 2024 Matebook X Pro isn’t probably for you.

This is such a shame because thanks to the US export licence situation, this may well be one of the last Huawei laptops we see with an Intel CPU and, had Huawei chosen to offer it with a Core 7 Ultra with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, it might very well be one of the greatest, too. As it is, I just can’t see many people taking the plunge. The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2024) is a very, very good laptop, but it’s not quite good enough to justify that price.

If you come at the king, you best not miss, and Huawei has come correct with the MateBook X Pro — putting the M3 MacBook Air on notice. Matching its performance, while being lighter, packing a gorgeous OLED panel, and the best keyboard/touchpad combo I’ve used on a Windows laptop, Apple is clearly in its sights and the shot’s been taken. It’s not perfect, though, with the omission of a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the Snapdragon X Elite being what’s needed for Huawei to jump that final hurdle and challenge Cupertino on battery life. But for what this pricey device is, if you have the money (and you don’t live in the US), this is my favorite Windows laptop.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 is shaping up to be one of the best ultraportable options of the year. It has the specs, it has the looks and it’s exceptionally thin and lightweight. Of course, we need to test in the real world before we can reach any conclusions, but first impressions are good. If you come at the king, you best not miss, and Huawei has come correct with the MateBook X Pro — putting the M3 MacBook Air on notice. Matching its performance, while being lighter, packing a gorgeous OLED panel, and the best keyboard/touchpad combo I’ve used on a Windows laptop, Apple is clearly in its sights and the shot’s been taken. It’s not perfect, though, with the omission of a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the Snapdragon X Elite being what’s needed for Huawei to jump that final hurdle and challenge Cupertino on battery life. But for what this pricey device is, if you have the money (and you don’t live in the US), this is my favorite Windows laptop.

Huawei:

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.

Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs:

De här grafikkorten bör klara av alla nuvarande spel med acceptabel bildfrekvens, men inte nödvändigtvis med höga inställningar. Särskilt krävande spel kanske bara fungerar med låga inställningar. Till skillnad från prestandakorten hittar man däremot de här grafikkorten i bärbara datorer av lite mindre format med bättre batteritid.

Intel Arc 8-Core: Integrerat grafikkort baserat på Xe LPG-arkitekturen (liknar de dedikerade Arc GPU:erna, men med fokus på effektivitet). Innehåller alla 8 Xe-kärnor (128 Xe-vektormotorer) och 8 strålspårningsenheter.

Intel Alder Lake-P:

i7-1260P:

En CPU i övre mellanklassen av Alder Lake-familjen med 4 prestandakärnor och 8 effektiva kärnor. Denna 28 W SoC är utformad för att användas i ultralätta bärbara datorer. Core i7-1260P:s prestandakärnor är Hyper-Threading-aktiverade för totalt 16 trådar. Denna 12th Gen CPU körs på 1,5 GHz till 4,7 GHz och har stöd för vPro-funktioner i "Essentials"-nivån. Sist men inte minst har Core i7-1260P en inbyggd 96 EU Iris Xe GPU inte olikt vissa 11th Gen Tiger Lake-UP3-delar.

Intel Raptor Lake-P:

i7-1360P: Raptor Lake-P-baserad CPU med en TDP på 28 watt. Erbjuder 4 prestandakärnor och 8 effektivitetskärnor och därmed 16 trådar.

Intel Meteor Lake-H:

Ultra 9 185H: Ett toppmodernt Meteor Lake-chip som debuterade i december 2023. Denna 1:a generationens Core Ultra-processor har kommit för att ersätta 13:e generationens Core-chip; den har 16 kärnor (6 + 8 + 2) och 22 trådar till sitt förfogande. Dess prestandakärnor, av vilka det finns 6, körs på upp till 5,1 GHz medan dess effektiva kärnor, av vilka det finns 10 (8 huvudkärnor plus 2 extra som finns i Low Power Island) körs på upp till 3,8 GHz. Den 8-kärniga Arc GPU, som precis kommit ut ur ugnen, fungerar som integrerad grafikadapter - denna körs på upp till 2,35 GHz - och det finns en mängd andra helt nya tekniker som också erbjuds, till exempel den integrerade AI Boost NPU med två Gen 3-motorer för acceleration av AI-arbetsbelastning i hårdvara. Denna bärbara processors "bas"-effektförbrukning är 45 W, medan dess Turbo-effektförbrukning inte är tänkt att gå över 115 W.
