Minisforum EliteMini B550 recension: Kompakt minidator med externt grafikkort

Minisforum får allt större uppmärksamhet i landet. I deras portfölj finns redan ett brett utbud av minidatorer för vardagligt kontorsbruk. En kompakt speldator fanns tidigare tillgänglig med Minisforum EliteMini HX90. Den modellen hade dock ingen dedikerad grafikprocessor

Minisforum går en något annorlunda väg med Minisforum EliteMini B550. Först och främst är den här modellen en mycket kompakt minidator byggd på en AM4-plattform. Detta innebär att Barebone-versionen kan beställas med antingen en AMD Ryzen 7 5700G eller en AMD Ryzen 7 4700G. Som en del av AMD:s Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) ger den integrerade grafikprocessorn (iGPU) begränsad grafikprestanda. För att råda bot på detta kan ett monteringssats beställas som ger minidatorn ett gränssnitt för ett externt grafikkort via en PCIe-expansionsbuss. Detta innebär naturligtvis att du måste ha både det externa grafikkortet och strömförsörjningen tillgängliga. Alla andra nödvändiga kablar medföljer.

I princip fungerar denna lösning bra. Samtidigt har den en känsla av att vara en snabb nödlösning för att öka grafikprestandan.

Som redan nämnts finns MinisForum EliteMini B550 i en barebone-version. Du ska räkna med att spendera 310 euro (319 dollar) utan CPU, RAM eller SSD. För en fullt konfigurerad enhet (Ryzen 7 5700G, 32 GB RAM och 512 GB SSD) får du räkna med 749 euro (809 dollar). Vår testkonfiguration är för närvarande tillgänglig online för 669 euro. Det inkluderar Ryzen 7 5700G, 16 GB RAM och en 512 GB M.2 SSD och plats för totalt tre masslagringsenheter. Strömförsörjningen ingår också.

En barebone-version kan beställas med antingen en AMD Ryzen 7 5700G eller en AMD Ryzen 7 4700G. Som en del av AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) ger den integrerade grafikprocessorenheten (iGPU) begränsad grafikprestanda. För att råda bot på detta kan ett monteringssats beställas som ger minidatorn ett gränssnitt till ett externt grafikkort via en PCIe-expansionsbuss. Detta innebär naturligtvis att du måste ha både det externa grafikkortet och strömförsörjningen tillgängliga. Alla andra nödvändiga kablar medföljer.

Minisforum EliteMini B550 i detalj

Fall

Rent visuellt passar Minisforum EliteMini B550 väl in i EliteMini PC-familjen, om än med en liten avvikelse från det vanliga färgschemat. Minisforum EliteMini B550 är mestadels grå och svart och ger ett allmänt lyckat visuellt intryck. En märkbar blå LED-remsa lyser upp vid uppstart och efterliknar en strömningslampa. Kylningslösningen påminner om andra minidatorer i Minisforums stall. Och varför uppfinna hjulet på nytt ändå. Luften sugs in genom toppen av höljet och släpps ut genom sidoväggarna.

Plast dominerar materialen med en gnutta aluminiumhöjdpunkter. Utseendet och känslan av enheten är avgjort av hög kvalitet. GPU-monteringsfästena sportar kvalitetsutförande även om de också består av plast och aluminium. Det externa grafikkortet måste sättas in vertikalt i sitt PCIe-fack på Minisforum EliteMini B550 och därefter skruvas fast. Själva monteringen är mycket stabil och processen är snabbt avslutad. Med sina drygt ett kilo känns Minisforum EliteMini B550 märkbart lätt och med sin bara 15,8 cm x 16,6 cm stora bas tar den väldigt lite plats på skrivbordet. Strömförsörjningen på 120 W lägger bara ytterligare 600 gram på vågen.

Anslutningsutrustning

Minisforum EliteMini B550 har ett stort antal externa anslutningar. En sak som dock är ganska märkbar är att alla viktiga portar är placerade på baksidan av fodralet. Totalt finns det fyra USB 3.2 typ A portar och en typ C port. Monitorer ansluts till minidatorn antingen via HDMI eller DisplayPort. Totalt kan upp till tre bildskärmar anslutas samtidigt. Man måste dock avstå från bekvämligheten med en SD-kortläsare.

Anslutningsutrustning

En MediaTek RZ608 WLAN-modul finns i EliteMini B550. Vår testkörning var inte särskilt övertygande. Minisforum EliteMini B550 hamnade på bottenplats mot vår jämförbara utrustning. Positivt är dock att enheten levererade stabila dataöverföringshastigheter via WLAN. Dessutom innehöll vår testenhet även ett RJ45-gränssnitt som kan leverera överföringshastigheter på upp till 2,5 Gbps.

Prestanda

CPU

Den numera välkända APU:n, AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, förenar de åtta Z3-kärnorna och en AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 iGPU under en värmespridare. Låt oss ta en stund för att fokusera på CPU-prestanda hos Minisforum EliteMini B550; prestanda som mer än bara kan hålla jämna steg med "stora" stationära datorer. På det hela taget är AMD Ryzen 7 5700G:s prestanda bra, även om den inte står sig lika bra i vissa kategorier som den gjorde i vår tidigare CPU-granskning av just den här processorn. APU:n ger ifrån sig cirka tio procent prestanda i flerkärniga tester. Trots detta är prestandan jämförbar med en AMD Ryzen 5 5600X.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700G mäter sig väl över hela linjen mot prestandanivåerna hos en AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Intels mobila 8-kärniga processor överträffas på ett bra sätt av Ryzen. Vi använde den förstnämnda i vår recension av Zotac Magnus EN173070C

Lösning för prestanda och lagring av tillämpningar

En grundkonfiguration av Minisforum EliteMini B550 utan externt grafikkort överträffar både EliteMini TH50 och EliteMini HM90. Men när vi jämför den med Minisforum EliteMini HX blir det lite mer utmanande. Även om bara några få procentenheter skiljer de två åt är skillnaden inte riktigt märkbar. När ett dedikerat grafikkort väl är i spel är det dock inte längre fallet. Vårt val av ett Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 är representativt för ett kort i den övre delen av mellanklassprodukter av det här slaget. Som sådant ger det Minisforum EliteMini B550 några rejäla ben när det gäller grafikprestanda. Prestandaförbättringen av ett dedikerat grafikkort jämfört med iGPU:n är helt enkelt enorm. Den som köper Minisforum EliteMini B550 som en liten kontorsdator eller som spelmaskin kan vara säker på att ljudnivåerna inte är något problem. Kylsystemet är utmärkt och fungerar bra även vid tung belastning. Ett tyst brummande på inte mer än 37 dBA är precis hörbart. Men eftersom det är ett lågfrekvent brummande är det inget större bekymmer. När det externa grafikkortet och nätaggregatet installerades på testsystemet, utgick praktiskt taget inget buller från dessa två komponenter på minidatorn. Andra komponenter var märkbart högre. Eftersom dessa två komponenter var valfria tillägg har vi inte inkluderat mätningar av ljudvolymen för dessa i våra tester.

Temperaturer

Vi använder Prime95 och FurMark för stresstester och Miniforum EliteMini B550 pressas till sin yttersta gräns med dessa tester. Våra mätningar är enbart begränsade till den kompakta datorn utan ett dedikerat grafikkort. AMD Ryzen 7 5700G körs på stabila 4,1 GHz under belastning. Temperaturmätningarna ger ingen anledning till oro. Med drygt 80 °C presterar APU:n långt under sin gräns medan iGPU:n registrerar ännu svalare temperaturer på 68 °C. Vi hade redan tidigare konstaterat att kontinuerlig belastning hade liten inverkan på prestandan när vi registrerade mätningar från multicore-benchmark Cinebench R15. Det kommer därför inte som en överraskning att ett senare utfört 3DMark-jämförelseindex inte visade några sämre resultat än från en kallstart.

Effektförbrukning

Minisforum EliteMini B550 har en strömförbrukning på tomgång mellan 8,9 och 11,8 watt. Elite Mini B550 visar sig därmed vara en mycket energieffektiv och kompakt kontorsassistent. Stora skrivbordssystem drar rutinmässigt mer energi. Under belastning når energiförbrukningen sin topp på 102 watt, något som 120-watts nätaggregatet klarar av med lätthet. Det lämnar också en liten reserv för ytterligare lagringsenheter.

Slutsats - En snabb minidator med ett spelalternativ

Minisforum har valt ett nytt tillvägagångssätt med sin EliteMini B550. Om du letar efter en kompakt minidator är den här enheten ett säkert val. Dess användning avAMD Ryzen 7 5700Gger en solid prestanda vid daglig användning. De 8 kärnorna ger en pålitlig flerkärnig prestanda, även under belastning. Minisforum EliteMini B550 förvandlas dock inte till en speldator förrän den utrustas med en dedikerad GPU. Den stora fördelen med GPU-dockan är att den ger användaren fria händer vid valet av grafikkort. Andra kompakta minidatorer, t.ex.ZBOX Magnus EN173070C, erbjuder bara ett enda alternativ, ett Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Mobile. Du måste dock gilla hur systemet skruvas ihop, eftersom dess ganska okonventionella design har mycket av en känsla av "work-in-progress". Det nödvändiga separata nätaggregatet ligger på bordet tillsammans med denna ovanliga konstruktion.

På det hela taget är Minisforum EliteMini B550 ett utmärkt val om du har ont om utrymme och vill hålla dina uppgraderingsmöjligheter för grafikprestanda öppna. Barebone utan komponenter kostar 309 euro (319 dollar). Med CPU, RAM-minne och SSD som granskats här kostar det 669 euro (699 dollar). Om vi sedan lägger till GPU:n och det nödvändiga nätaggregatet överträffar vi snabbt och enkelt prisnivån på tusen euro. När vi jämför vår recensionskonfiguration med ZBOX Magnus EN173070C som har en prislapp på 1 650 euro (1 800 dollar) kommer vi att ligga före. Det borde inte vara svårt att svälja eventuella mindre nackdelar kring grafikprestanda. Båda produkterna kommer att prestera lika bra vid spel i 1080p eller 1440p.

Minisforum EliteMini B550 är en smidig och mycket kompakt sifferkalkylator. Om du väljer att fylla GPU-dockan kan du förvandla den här lilla datorn till en mycket snabb spelmaskin som kan hävda sig mot stora stationära datorer.

Minisforum EliteMini B550 klarar sig bra när det gäller ljudnivåer. Det finns verkligen inte mycket att kritisera här. Det är uppenbart att en kompakt dator som den här inte kommer att köras tyst. Ändå lyckas Minisforum på något sätt kyla den här socklade AMD Ryzen 7 5700G effektivt och med lite buller. Om du överväger alternativ och har Dragon Canyon NUC i åtanke är det ett önskvärt alternativ med en barebone-konfiguration som även rymmer en extern GPU. Bullernivåerna under belastning är dock klart högre och om du är bullerkänslig är det bättre att hålla sig till Minisforum EliteMini B550.
