Samsungs svar på MacBook Pro 16.

16-tums Galaxy Book4 Ultra multimedia laptop är Samsungs svar på Apple MacBook Pro 16. Förutom den högupplösta AMOLED-panelen med 120 Hz finns det en aktuell Core Ultra-processor samt en GeForce RTX 4050 laptop. Ultra är dock inte billig.

Samsung uppdaterar sin Galaxy Book-serie till sin fjärde generation och med Galaxy Book 4 Ultra vill Samsung konkurrera direkt med Apple:s MacBook Pro 16. I jämförelse med föregående års modell har inte mycket förändrats med endast Core i7-13700H som ersatts av Meteor Lake Core Ultra 7 155H-chipet.

Ingenting har heller förändrats när det gäller priset där basmodellen och dess Core Ultra 7 155H och GeForce RTX 4050 laptop kostar 2 399 USD. Detta fortsätter att vara mycket ambitiöst, särskilt med tanke på de magra lagringsspecifikationerna (16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD). För 2 999 USD kan du få toppvarianten med Core Ultra 9 185H, den GeForce RTX 4070 bärbar dator samt mer minne och lagring (32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD).

Fodral - Galaxy Book levereras med ett metallfodral

Höljets design är oförändrad jämfört med den gamla modellen. Det mörkgrå aluminiumhöljet (Moonstone Gray) är mycket premium och ytorna ger inte bara trevlig feedback utan är inte heller känsliga för fingeravtryck och kan enkelt rengöras. Den tjocka nedre skärmramen är dock märkbar (1,7 cm) och förstör det övergripande utseendet något.

Galaxy Book4 Ultra gör ett gott intryck både när det gäller byggkvalitet och stabilitet. Tangentbordsområdet ger bara lite efter och hela basenheten är vridstyv. Dessutom finns det inga knarrande ljud att tala om. Själva displaylocket är betydligt tunnare och på samma sätt mycket stabilt. Gångjärnen är väljusterade och lyckas för det mesta förhindra att skärmen börjar vackla och locket kan också öppnas bekvämt med en hand. Den maximala öppningsvinkeln ligger på 135 grader.

Den tjocka skärmramen är också märkbar när det gäller enhetens tjocklek, där Book4 Ultra tar upp mest utrymme jämfört med de andra modellerna. Med en höjd på 16,5 mm och en vikt på 1,82 kg ligger granskningsenheten i mitten av paketet. Det medföljande 140-watts nätaggregatet ger ytterligare 351 gram på vågen.

Funktioner - Thunderbolt 4 & HDMI 2.1

Förutom de moderna USB-C-gränssnitten, som inkluderar Thunderbolt 4, erbjuder Galaxy Book4 Ultra också en vanlig USB-A-port samt HDMI 2.1. Ett av USB-gränssnitten kan dock också användas för PSU. Inga klagomål kan göras när det gäller portplaceringen på båda baksidorna av enheten. HDMI-kontakten är direkt ansluten till Nvidia GPU men inte båda USB-C-portarna. Vid användning av en extern bildskärm fungerar inte alltid dGPU automatiskt samtidigt.

SD-kortläsare

I vårt test uppnådde microSD-kortläsaren på höger sida genomsnittliga hastigheter på ~80 till 90 MB/s tillsammans med vårt referenskort, Angelbird AV Pro V60. Själva läsaren är dock problematisk (fjädermekanism) eftersom anslutningspunkten sitter mycket djupt inne i höljet, vilket gör det svårt att antingen enkelt installera eller ta bort kortet utan hjälp av ett verktyg/hjälpmedel.

Samsung använder den välbekanta Intel AX211-modulen som stöder Wi-Fi 6E-standarden i 6 GHz-nätverk samt Bluetooth 5.3. I kombination med vår Asus referensrouter är överföringshastigheterna mycket bra och stabila. Trots detta har den nya Galaxy Book4 Ultra inte stöd för Wi-Fi 7.

Webbkamera

När det gäller 1080p-webbkameran finns det inga förändringar och kvaliteten förblir genomsnittlig. Enheten saknar både en mekanisk slutare och en IR-modul för ansiktsigenkänning. Tack vare Meteor Lake-chippets nya NPU stöds Studio Effects (bakgrundsoskärpa, ögonkontakt, huvudspårning) för webbkameran direkt från operativsystemet, oavsett vilken app som används.

På enhetens botten finns fyra skruvar dolda under de monterade gummifötterna. Men även utan skruvarna är baslocket säkrat mycket ordentligt eftersom det finns ytterligare fixeringsklämmor i mitten. Inuti enheten konfronteras du av både fläktar och den stora ångkammaren. Det finns två platser för M.2 2280 SSD-enheter och även om det skruvade batteriet kan bytas ut är alla andra komponenter lödda.

Inmatningsenheter - Stor pekplatta, genomsnittligt tangentbord

Samsung har utrustat Galaxy Book4 Ultra med ett tangentbord och en numerisk knappsats. Skrivupplevelsen lider något av att tangenterna är för grunda samt ett hörbart tangenttryckningsljud och i direkt jämförelse med den vanliga Galaxy Book4 Pro är strejkerna inte lika exakta. I denna disciplin släpar Samsungs bärbara dator också efter tävlingen. Den som skriver mycket bör prova tangentbordet i förväg. Strömknappen längst upp till höger fungerar också som en fingeravtryckssensor. Den vita bakgrundsbelysningen har tre intensitetsnivåer och kan aktiveras automatiskt.

Svepgester på den stora klickplattan (15,1 x 10,8 cm) är mycket bra trots att den sitter en aning till vänster om mitten. När det gäller att skriva är vänster hand nästan alltid på pekplattan, men detta visade sig inte vara ett problem under testningen. Den nedre delen av plattan kan klickas men detta kommer på bekostnad av ett relativt högt och billigt ljud.

Samsung säljer endast Galaxy Book4 Ultra med en 16-tums OLED-pekskärm (2 880 x 1 800 pixlar, 16:10). Den subjektiva bildkvaliteten imponerar med levande färger och djup svärta. Svarstiderna är extremt snabba och HDR-innehåll stöds. Dessutom är rörelserna mycket smidiga tack vare 120 Hz uppdateringsfrekvens. Som med alla Windows-enheter kan HDR-läget aktiveras manuellt men färghantering är inte längre tillgängligt. Både ljusstyrkan och färgtemperaturen kan justeras automatiskt via sensorn.

Den maximala ljusstyrkan i SDR-läget ligger på i genomsnitt 393 cd/m² och svartvärdet är 0 cd/m², vilket leder till ett mycket högt kontrastförhållande. Vi uppmätte en HDR-ljusstyrka på 564 cd/m² för bildsektioner eller 540 cd/m² med en nästan helt vit bild. Detta innebär att HDR-kapaciteten är betydligt mer begränsad jämfört med mini LED-paneler och i kombination med bättre macOS-hantering är MacBook Pro 16 är betydligt överlägsen när det gäller HDR.

I Samsungs inställningsapp finns det olika färgprofiler där den aktiva standardprofilen är "Vivid". Som vanligt är färgerna här lite övermättade och detta gör att bilderna ser mer levande ut. Men i förpackningen finns också P3-läget som oftast erbjuder korrekta färger och det är det som vi använde för våra mätningar. Med vår egen kalibrering kunde vi inte ytterligare förbättra denna prestanda. Panelen täcker både sRGB och P3-färgrymderna fullständigt och alla som gillar att redigera bilder kommer att vara nöjda med det lika exakta sRGB-läget.

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

OLED-pekskärmen är i grunden reflekterande men tack vare implementeringen av Corning Gorilla Glass DX är nivån lägre jämfört med andra glansiga paneler och i detta avseende är Samsung i nivå med Apple's MacBooks. I princip kan du också använda enheten utomhus på ljusa dagar så länge du undviker reflektioner från ljuskällor. Betraktningsvinkelstabiliteten är mycket bra men med stora avvikelser hittar du det typiska OLED-blå skimret.

Prestanda - Meteor Lake ersätter Raptor Lake

Samsung har ersatt de gamla Intel Raptor Lake-chipen med de nya Meteor Lake-processorerna och du får antingen Core Ultra 7 155H eller Core Ultra 9 185H. Oavsett processor får du också antingen 16 eller 32 GB lödd RAM och när det gäller GPU: erna har du valet mellan GeForce RTX 4050 bärbar dator eller den snabbare RTX 4070 bärbara datorn.

I Samsungs inställningsapp finns det olika energiprofiler, men standardvalet är det optimerade läget. Vi använde också detta läge för följande riktmärken och mätningar. Processor

Core Ultra 7 Core Ultra 7 155H är efterföljaren till den välkända Core i7-13700H och erbjuder totalt 16 kärnor/22 trådar (6x prestanda, 10x effektivitet). Med effektgränser på 65/40 watt erbjuder processorn anständig prestanda även om det knappast finns några skillnader jämfört med den gamla Raptor Lake-generationen. Det innebär att det inte är en lönsam uppgradering. Med Ryzen 9 Pro 7940HShar AMD sin näsa marginellt framför. Den normala M3 Pro befinner sig också på denna nivå och har en fördel när det gäller single-core-tester. Under ihållande belastning sjunker prestandan för flera kärnor med cirka ~15 %. I batteriläge tillåts processorn dra maximalt 45 watt, vilket leder till ett litet underskott på 7 %. Ytterligare CPU-riktmärken kan hittas i vårt teknikavsnitt.

Masslagring

Föga förvånande har Samsung installerat en av sina egna SSD-enheter (PM9A1), men den har bara en kapacitet på 512 GB. Efter den första installationen har användaren 403 GB till sitt förfogande. Åtminstone lagringskapaciteten kan enkelt och prisvärt utökas tack vare den andra M.2 2280-kortplatsen. I vardagliga situationer tar den integrerade Arc GPU:n hand om grafikberäkningarna och för krävande applikationer kopplas Nvidia GPU:n automatiskt in. Den vanliga Optimus-grafikomkopplaren används, men varken en MUX-omkopplare eller Advanced Optimus finns tillgängliga. Den RTX 4050 bärbar dator som sitter i Galaxy Book4 Ultra, förbrukar maximalt 80 watt i högprestandaläget och 55 watt i det optimerade läget.

Benchmarkresultaten är på samma nivå som den gamla Galaxy Book3 Ultra som också använde en RTX 4050 laptop på 55 watt. Detta slår Radeon RX 6550M men M3 Pro GPU är ibland snabbare. För en multimedia-bärbar dator fortsätter RTX 4050-bärbara datorn att vara ett bra val. Galaxy Book4 Ultra klarade dock inte 3DMark-stresstestet (Time Spy) med prestandaförluster på 7 % under ihållande belastning.

I batteriläge drar Nvidias GPU maximalt 35 watt, vilket är anledningen till att GPU-prestandan är cirka 13 % lägre. Ytterligare GPU-riktmärken finns tillgängliga här.

Spel ser underbara ut på Galaxy Book4 Ultras OLED-skärm och även snabba skjutspel är en fröjd tack vare de extremt korta svarstiderna. När det gäller spelprestanda måste du däremot acceptera kompromisser med RTX 4050 laptop och aktuella titlar är knappast spelbara i enhetens inbyggda upplösning. Det bästa är Full HD-upplösning, med vilken du i allmänhet vill spela spel med maximala detaljer. Utsläpp - Ångkammare i alla modeller

Utsläpp av buller

Samsung har utrustat båda Galaxy Book4 Ultra-modellerna med ångkammarkylning med två fläktar och överlag är det mycket imponerande. Under enkla uppgifter förblir fläktarna i allmänhet helt avaktiverade och korta belastningstoppar uppnås utan att fläktarna startar. Under belastning blir det betydligt högre ljud, men vid maximalt 41,7 dB(A) är den bärbara datorn acceptabel även utan hörlurar. Vid 51 dB(A) i High Performance-läget är det däremot betydligt högre. Inga andra elektroniska ljud förekom i testenheten

Metallhöljet på Galaxy Book4 Ultra värms nästan inte upp alls, varken under viloläge eller när man kör enkla uppgifter. Även i stresstestet ligger yttemperaturerna helt inom gränserna eftersom vi bara uppmätte knappt 39 °C på ovansidan av basenheten och maximalt 41,2 °C på undersidan, i mitten av det bakre området. Det innebär att du kan använda enheten utan begränsningar. I stresstestet nådde processorn och grafikkortet snabbt värden på 25/33 watt.

Samsung har installerat ett högtalarsystem med 4 moduler och även om kvaliteten på det hela taget är bra, kan Galaxy Book4 Ultra inte hålla jämna steg med de bästa 16-tums bärbara multimediadatorerna som t.ex MacBook Pro, Yoga Pro 9i eller HP Spectre x360 16. I synnerhet i direkt jämförelse skulle modulerna kunna vara en aning mer empatiska.

I viloläge visar OLED-skärmen sig vara mycket sparsam men Samsungs mörka standardbakgrund hjälper till. När du spelar och beroende på titeln kan du förvänta dig cirka 80 till 90 watt och i stresstestet var det kort 125 watt innan detta värde också snabbt satte sig till 90 watt. I högpresterande läge låg den maximala förbrukningen på 141,6 watt och var senare 128 watt. Detta innebär att den medföljande 140-watts PSU är lämpligt dimensionerad.

Med 76 Wh är batterikapaciteten oförändrad, men tack vare den nya Meteor Lake-processorn är batteritiden bättre. För övrigt kunde vi bara utföra batteritestet vid 120 Hz eftersom det, trots att vi valde 60 Hz i det aktiva signalläget, förblev vid 120 Hz. Detta är ett problem som vi också har upptäckt i de andra modellerna i Galaxy Book4-serien.

I Wi-Fi-testet vid 150 cd/m² (vilket motsvarar 66 % av testenhetens maximala SDR-ljusstyrka) registrerade vi nästan 11 timmar, vilket är nästan 1,5 timmar längre än föregångaren. Vid full ljusstyrka varade Wi-Fi-testet i lite mer än 7 timmar. Körtiden för videotestet (likaså 150 cd/m²) ökade från ~13,5 timmar till nästan 18 timmar. Det är här som den nya Meteor Lake-processorn och dess strömsnåla kärnor ger utdelning.

Under belastning är det möjligt att tömma batteriet efter cirka 80 minuter och en HDR-video med full ljusstyrka spelas upp i cirka 5,5 timmar. En laddningscykel med 140-watts PSU tar nästan cirka 2,5 timmar och det finns ingen snabbladdningsfunktion.

I grunden har Samsung gjort livet lätt för sig med sin nuvarande Galaxy Book4 Ultra eftersom den 16-tums multimediadatorn har fått en ny Meteor Lake-processor, men bortsett från det är det som du var. Det finns två olika konfigurationer och Core Ultra 7 155H och GeForce RTX 4050 bärbar dator granskningsvarianten är lämplig som multimediamaskin. Komponenternas prestanda är anständig och de olika energiprofilerna är också välbalanserade. Dessutom förbättrar den nya Meteor Lake-processorn batteriets livslängd.

Med sina 120 Hz erbjuder skärmen också mycket bra bildkvalitet med olika färgprofiler som inkluderar mycket exakta för P3- och sRGB-färgrymderna. Trots detta finns det problem som konstant 240 Hz PWM-flimmer och enhetens HDR-funktioner är också kraftigt begränsade, särskilt jämfört med mini LED-konkurrenter som t.ex Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i eller Apple MacBook Pro 16.

Galaxy Book4 Ultra är en mycket bra multimediadator som kombinerar en AMOLED-skärm med ett premiumhölje som rymmer en effektiv ångkammare, anständig prestanda och lång batteritid. Tyvärr har Samsung snålat när det gäller minne och lagring. För 2 399 USD får du bara 16 GB RAM-minne och en 512 GB SSD.

Höljet är imponerande stabilt och välbearbetat, men det finns också nackdelar som den breda bottenramen och det lödda RAM-minnet. I synnerhet är 16 GB i vår recensionskonfiguration inte särskilt generös. Du får också bara ett genomsnittligt tangentbord som mest beror på den begränsade tangentresan.

Men det största problemet är priset med Samsung som frågar en rejäl $ 2 399 för vår 16 GB RAM och 512 GB SSD-revisionsmodell. Även MacBook Pro 16 med M3 Pro och betydligt bättre HDR-funktioner är cirka 200 dollar billigare i butikerna. Windows-konkurrensen är också billigare och kommer med andra fördelar. Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i erbjuder ett bättre tangentbord, en ljusare mini LED-panel och bättre högtalare. Med Vision 16 Pro erbjuder Schenker fortfarande en mycket bärbar 16-tums enhet med den snabbare RTX 4070 och en PWM-fri IPS-panel. Galaxy Book4 Ultra är inte på något sätt en dålig maskin men dess pris-prestanda-förhållande är inte särskilt bra med tanke på hur starka de konkurrerande enheterna är i detta segment och snart kommer den att få en annan konkurrent på marknaden i form av den nya Dell XPS 16.
