Aorus X5 har allt vi kommit att förvänta oss från Aorus. Det är en bärbar dator för köpare som inte nöjer sig med prestanda och funktioner i ultralätta speldatorer som Asus G501 eller MSI GS60, men ändå vill ha prestanda och utbyggbarhet som motsvarar tjockare modeller som Clevo barebones (t.ex. Eurocom P5 Pro) och Alienware-serien – minus den höga vikten. I vissa fall kan X5 erbjuda mer än konkurrenterna med sin 3K G-SYNC-skärm, ett stort antal videoutgångar och interna expansionsplatser.

Alla Aorus bärbara datorer delar samma nackdelar, inklusive högt fläktljud när du spelar, kort batteritid, höga temperaturer och ett klenare chassi jämfört med stora maskiner som MSI GT72, Asus G751 och Alienware 17. Medan GTX 965 SLI presterar mycket bra och erbjuder prestanda i GTX 980-nivå, vill inte Broadwell-processorn leverera maximala Turbo Boost-hastigheter i mer än bara ett par minuter. Dessutom har datorn ingen PCIe x4-kortplats, varav bara en skulle kunna överträffa våra dubbla M.2 Lite-On-SSD:er.

Det främsta trumfkortet för X5 är kanske kombinationen av en 3K-skärm, SLI, och G-SYNC. Med Nvidias adaptiva uppdateringsteknik kan SLI fungera mycket smidigare vid lägre framerates, vilket är ett vanligt problem med dubbla GPU-system och högre upplösningar. G-SYNC fungerar bäst i FPS-intervall mellan 30 och 60, som råkar vara där de flesta spelen presterar med höga inställningar och 3K-upplösning. Det är en utmärkt användning av tekniken för att mildra bristerna i SLI.
