Dells Latitude 7380 ligger mittemellan skärmstorleken på deras nuvarande flaggskepp i Latitude 7000-serien, 7280 och 7480 - men på många sätt är den mindre av en kompromiss och mer av en utveckling mellan generationerna. 7380 tar lärdom av XPS 13 och pressar in en 13.3-tums skärm i fotavtrycket (och, i huvudsak, hela kroppen) på den existerande 12.5-tums 7280 - och ersätter således den modellen på många sätt. Best av allt, det finns inga större nackdelar med detta: höljet har fortfarande väldigt bra stabilitet och även om skärmlocket inte riktigt kan matcha stelheten hos XPS 13:s aluminiumram så är Latitudes magnesiumkonstruktion inte på något sätt ömtålig.
Dells Latitude 7380 ligger mittemellan skärmstorleksmässigt - men på många sätt är den mindre av en kompromiss och mer av en utveckling mellan generationerna. Den utgår från grunden som lagts av instegs-modellen XPS 13 men levererar all företags-medvetenhet som kommer med Latitude-märket.
Vi var också nöjda med 7380:s utmärkta systemprestanda och de i huvudsak konsekventa CPU-hastigheterna vid belastning; tillsammans med den låga yttemperaturen och det i huvudsak diskreta fläktljudet så är resultatet imponerande för en maskin i den här storleken. Ännu mer imponerande är våra batteritester, där vi lyckades uppnå över tio timmar websurfande på en enda laddning. För att runda av detta är IPS-skärmen på 1080p också över genomsnittet - även om den kräver professionell kalibrering för att få någon nivå av färgnoggranhet.
Våra enda större klagomål är dom någorlunda hörbara elektroniska ljuden/spoltjuten, skärmens inexakthet efter uppackning och det tidigare nämnda höga priset på ca 18 400 kronor ($2,178). Det är också en viss besvikelse att endast enkel-kanalsminne stöds, även om den totala kapaciteten på 16 GB är tillräckligt för en laptop i denna kategori. Värdiga konkurrenter från andra tillverkare inkluderar Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, HP EliteBook 840 G4 och Toshiba Portege X30-D, varav en del är billigare än Latitude men som alla kommer med sina egna unika uppsättningar för och nackdelar.
Varför välja Latitude 7380 när Dell redan tillverkar en så utmärkt (och liknande) avancerad ultraportabel laptop som XPS 13? I huvudsak på grund av den företags-medvetenhet som kommer med Latitude-märket. Förutom sin kännetecknande subtila, svarta design så erbjuder 7380 ett överlägset tangentbord, en styrplatta med separata fysiska knappar, en Ethernet-port, längre garanti och betydligt mer flexibla möjligheter till underhåll. Den kostar också en hel del mer än XPS, men det är ett litet pris att betala om den får jobbet gjort.
