Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Det finns en anledning till varför samma Core i9-8950HK är mycket snabbare i den tjocka och tunga MSI GT75. För att få ut det mesta ur denna Core i9-processor så behöver kyllösningen vara tillräcklig för att kunna upprätthålla Turbo Boost-klockfrekvenser med rimliga temperaturer.

När det kommer till vår i9-version av XPS 15 så verkar det röra sig om ett klassiskt fall av att trycka i en riktigt kraftfull Core i9-processor i ett hölje som är bättre lämpat för en Core i7. Detta har vi sett tidigare på både i9 ZenBook UX580 och i9 Eurocom Q8 och i9-versionen av XPS 15 är likadan. Totalt sett är i9-8950HK kapabel till att vara 25 procent snabbare än i7-8750H, men den som använder i9-versionen av XPS 15 kommer bara se en ökning på 10 procent som bäst, jämfört med ökningen på 50% mellan i5-XPS 15 och i7-XPS 15.

Vid skrivande stund kostar i9-varianten av XPS 15 2.500 kronor mer än XPS 15 med i7. Vi rekommenderar att stanna vid Core i7-nivån och sen investera i RAM, lagring, skärm och/eller grafik för en mer påtaglig prestandaökning.
