Det nya testet av ThinkPad P50 är intressant, men förenklar knappast valet för potentiella köpare. Vi börjar med två positiva aspekter: Turbo Boost-problemen som påverkade testresultaten för Full HD-modellen verkar vara ett minne blott, vilket innebär att användaren nu kan utnyttja den maximala prestandan hela tiden. De sprakande högtalarna är uppenbarligen fixade också, eftersom vi inte lade märke till sådana problem i det här testet.
Skärmen är ett mer komplicerat kapitel. Full HD-skärmen var inte särskilt imponerande vad gäller ljusstyrka och färgomfång, men 4K-panelen har sina egna problem. Till att börja med lever den inte upp till den utannonserade ljusstyrkan på 300 nits, och PWM används för att kontrollera ljusstyrkan. Kontrasten är inte mycket bättre heller. 4K-skärmen har klart bättre färgomfång och är därför i princip den enda lösningen för seriös bildredigering. Du bör dock kalibrera skärmen. Den integrerade kolorimetern levererar inga bra resultat för vår testenhet.
Andra nackdelar är den mycket högre energiförbrukningen och följaktligen mycket kortare batteritiden. Fläktarna börjar snurra lite tidigare under belastning och enheten blir varmare i allmänhet. Som köpare får du kompromissa med antingen batteritid eller skärm Tyvärr är inte 4K-panelen det bästa valet för alla – trots att den är ljusstarkare än FHD-skärmen. 4K-modellen får också ett något lägre totalbetyg.
