På papperet är det tydligt att Lenovo ThinkPad T490 efterträder ThinkPad T480. Men i verkligheten har ThinkPad T490 en väldigt annorlunda design, vilket gör att den snarare kan ses som en blandning mellan T480 och T480s snarare än som en direkt efterföljare till T480. För det mesta är det en lyckad mix, men den har också några svagheter.
ThinkPad T490 har ett robust hölje gjort av magnesiumförstärkt plast, som är mycket lättare och kompaktare än höljet på T480. Den har många anslutningsmöjligheter, precis som många säkerhetsfunktioner och kommunikationsalternativ, vilket inkluderar en RJ45-port i full storlek och LTE (som tillval) utöver WiFi. Som vanligt med ThinkPad-enheter är inmatningsenheterna riktigt bra. Den största förbättringen jämfört med tidigare ThinkPad-generationer rör skärmen. Lenovo använder äntligen en FHD-skärm av hög kvalitet med bra ljusstyrka och brett färgomfång. CPU-prestandan ligger över genomsnittet tack vare ett högre TDP-värde och Nvidia GeForce MX250-kortet som finns som tillval gör det till och med möjligt att spela en del lättare spel, vilket gör T490 ännu mer flexibel. Trots bra prestanda har ThinkPad T490 tysta fläktar och bra batteritid. Sist men inte minst kommer versionen vi testade med ett generöst garantipaket.
Även om skärmen i huvudsak är ett av de bästa argumenten för ThinkPad T490 har den extremt dåliga responstider och snabba pekarrörelser resulterar i ghosting. T490 har massor av portar, men tyvärr har Lenovo bytt ut SD-kortplatsen mot en microSD-kortplats – en i vårt tycke onödig förändring. Det är dessutom synd att Thunderbolt 3-porten bara är ansluten via två PCIe-platser. Av alla nyare ThinkPad T/X-modeller med skärm på 14 tum är T490 den som bäst går att uppgradera, men det är svårt att öppna och stänga höljet. Höga temperaturer vid belastning är också ett problem då de går över den viktiga gränsen på 50 °C. Bra prestanda och en tyst fläkt kostar trots allt något, för T490 stryptes också i vårt stresstest. Ett annat problem med T490 är ljuden den ger ifrån sig: Den lider av spoltjut och högtalarbrus. Slutligen sörjer vi PowerBridge-funktionen – USB C-batterier kan tjäna samma syfte, men PowerBridge var en intressant och bekväm funktion.
Lenovo ThinkPad T490 är den nyaste modellen i den traditionella T-serien – Lenovo har gjort många ändringar jämfört med föregångaren. Även om inte alla ändringar var till det bättre så tycker vi totalt sett att ThinkPad T490 är en bättre laptop än T480.
Sammanfattningsvis är Lenovo ThinkPad T490 en riktigt bra laptop för företaget, men Lenovo behöver fixa högtalarsurret med en mjukvaruuppdatering. Frågan kvarstår också huruvida det svagare iGPU-kylsystemet klarar av att kyla processorn. Vi ger ThinkPad T490 en vanlig rekommendation, men man bör välja en modell med den energisparande FHD-skärmen eller en med QHD LCD-skärmen.
