När Lenovo ThinkPad X280 släpptes förra året undrade vi huruvida en sådan klassisk subnotebook på 12.5 tum var utdaterad. Frågan har nu besvarats med ThinkPad X390 – tydligen föredrar kunderna större skärmar i dessa dagar. Men det finns fortfarande några frågetecken kring hur gångbar ThinkPad X390 egentligen är.
Men en sak i taget: Lenovo ThinkPad X390 har många styrkor, vilket är ett bevis på Lenovos skicklighet. ThinkPad X390 har ett robust och tunt hölje av hög kvalitet som innehåller utmärkta inmatningsenheter och ett bra antal portar. Den har många företagsfunktioner och det finns rikligt med kommunikationsmöjligheter. Dessutom kommer den med ett generöst garantipaket med tre års premium-support. ThinkPad X390 gör det lätt för användaren att byta ut tangentbordet, till skillnad från många andra kompakta bärbara datorer. Skärmen är matt, ljusstark och har ett bra färgomfång. Detta löser ett av de största problemen vi såg hos X280. CPU-prestandan är hög, ThinkPad X390 blir inte särskilt varm och den håller sig i princip helt tyst.
Med en så lång lista över positiva aspekter, finns det ens plats för något negativt? Inte mycket, för Lenovo begår inte särskilt många fel med den här företagsdatorn. En tråkig detalj är microSD-kortläsaren, som är svår att komma åt. CPU-prestandan begränsas när enheten körs på batteri och tangentbordet är inte lika brett som på andra ThinkPad-modeller. X390 kunde också haft bättre uppgraderingsmöjligheter, vi störde oss särskilt på att den hade fastlött RAM – vi hade åtminstone önskat oss en enkel RAM-plats. Skärmen har dåliga responstider och Thunderbolt-porten är bara ansluten genom två PCIe-banor. Det är dessutom synd att Lenovo inte erbjuder en mer högupplöst skärm.
Ett komplett paket: Lenovo gör fler saker rätt än de gör fel med ThinkPad X390 – men det finns starka konkurrenter från samma tillverkare.
Alla dessa är rimliga klagomål, men det rör sig främst om detaljer – den finns inga stora problem med den här ThinkPad-modellen. Således får den förstås en rekommendation från oss. Men trots det positiva omdömet får vi ställa oss själva frågan om huruvida ThinkPad T490s är ett bättre val. Den är en aning större, lite dyrare och saknar det löstagbara tangentbordet, men den har ett större batteri, en större skärm, ett bredare tangentbord samt möjligheten att välja till en skärm med högre upplösning. Utöver detta är de båda ThinkPad-modellerna nästan identiska. I slutändan är huruvida man väljer den större eller den mindre modellen en fråga om smak. Lenovo kanske borde överväga att slå ihop de båda serierna eftersom T490s och X390 helt enkelt är för lika varandra.
