Nyligen tog vi en närmare titt på den mindre Aoostar GEM10 och nu är vi redo att testa Aoostar GEM12. Visuellt tillhör GEM12 helt klart Aoostar-familjen. Jämfört med Aoostar GEM10 är GEM12 något större. I den högsta prestandakonfigurationen, som är grunden för detta test, en AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS används. Alternativt är Aoostar GEM12 också tillgänglig med AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS eller AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processorer. Den senare kan av tekniska skäl endast hantera DDR5 4 800 MT/s, medan de två Ryzen 7-modellerna arbetar med DDR5 5 600 MT/s.

Testapparaten med 32 GB RAM och 1 TB SSD kostar minst 649 US-dollar - ett pris som är motiverat och inte verkar överdrivet om man tittar på de tekniska uppgifterna jämfört med konkurrenterna. Aoostar GEM12 finns också som barebone-version för 499 US-dollar. Om du behöver 64 GB RAM direkt bör du budgetera för 749 US-dollar. Vi tycker att detta också är ett rimligt pris just nu.

I testet måste Aoostar GEM12 hålla sig mot nuvarande mini-PC: er. Bland annat tittar vi också på hur bra mini-PC:n presterar mot dyrare konkurrenter. GEM-modellerna från Aoostar är visuellt lika. Med sina 13 x 13 centimeter tar Aoostar GEM12 upp något mer utrymme på skrivbordet än Aoostar GEM10 (10,7 x 10,7 centimeter). På diagrammet kan du se att vissa enheter tar upp ännu mer utrymme. Med en höjd på 6 centimeter är Aoostar-enheterna något tjockare än sina konkurrenter. När det gäller materialval ser vi en bra kombination av plast och aluminium. Det senare används främst för höljet, vilket innebär att Aoostar GEM12 också ger ett utmärkt haptiskt intryck. Undersidan är å andra sidan gjord av plast, vilket är fallet med de flesta enheter. Det finns också ett litet plastelement på toppen, som bara ger enheten ett visuellt värde. Trots de högkvalitativa materialen är Aoostar GEM12 inte något utöver det vanliga när det gäller vikt. Vår våg visar bara strax över 650 gram. Själva nätaggregatet väger 278 gram och ligger därmed på ungefär samma vikt som de flesta andra minidatorer i den här prestandaklassen.

Aoostar har också en GEM12 Pro i sin portfölj, som är utrustad med en liten skärm och en fingeravtrycksläsare. Tyvärr har icke-Pro-modellen inte detta. Aoostar erbjuder två färgalternativ, som du kan se på tillverkarens bilder. När det gäller pris är det en skillnad på 20 US-dollar mellan den svarta och silvermodellen till förmån för silverversionen.

Funktioner - USB4 och OCuLink finns på kortet

Anslutningarna sitter endast på framsidan och baksidan. När det gäller antalet anslutningar är Aoostar GEM12 inte särskilt välutrustad, utan ligger snarare på genomsnittet: Det finns totalt fyra USB Type-A-uttag, varav två dock endast tillhandahåller den långsamma 2.0-standarden. Dessutom krävs det alltid en USB-C-anslutning för strömförsörjningen. Åtminstone USB4 och till och med OCuLink är installerade. Precis som med Aoostar GEM10kritiserar vi placeringen av OCuLink-porten, som enligt vår mening skulle vara bättre placerad på baksidan. På baksidan ser vi också en HDMI 2.1 och en DisplayPort 1.4 för bildutgång. Två nätverksanslutningar finns också här.

Det finns en viktig punkt att notera när du använder OCuLink-gränssnittet: Porten är inte hot-swappable, vilket innebär att mini-PC:n måste stängas av innan du ansluter en eGPU. Detsamma gäller för borttagning av enheter som är anslutna via OCuLink. Defekter som orsakats av felaktig hantering täcks inte av tillverkarens garanti.

Kommunikation

En Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200-modul ansvarar för den trådlösa kommunikationen i Aoostar GEM12. WLAN-modulen kan hantera både 2,4 och 5 GHz-frekvenser och uppnådde acceptabla resultat i testet. Vårt testprov rankas därför i det goda mittfältet. Vi använde Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000-routern för detta test. För överföring av stora datamängder rekommenderar vi att du använder en kabelanslutning. Här är Aoostar GEM12 utrustad med två RJ45-uttag - 2,5 GBit/s vardera.

Tillbehör

Den relativt lilla lådan innehåller Aoostar GEM12 tillsammans med ett 120-watts nätaggregat och en snabbstartsguide. Det finns också en HDMI-anslutningskabel och ett VESA-fäste med skruvar. Tillverkaren inkluderar även två passiva SSD-kylare med termokuddar och en uppsättning gummifötter som extra tillbehör.

Omfattning av leveransen av Aoostar GEM12

Underhåll

Med tanke på att Aoostar GEM12 bland annat erbjuds som en barebone-version är det viktigt att enheten är lätt att öppna. För att komma åt SSD- eller RAM-kortplatserna behöver endast undersidan tas bort. De fyra skruvarna som håller fast locket i höljet sitter under gummifötterna. Var försiktig när du öppnar locket för att undvika att skada WLAN-antennerna. Det finns också en liten fläkt på undersidan. När du har tagit bort bottenplattan är de två SSD-platserna och de två SO-DIMM-platserna lättåtkomliga. I vårt testsystem är en M.2-2280-plats fortfarande ledig för en extra databärare.

Prestanda - Alltid åtta kärnor och 16 trådar i Aoostar GEM12

Aoostar GEM12 är ett kompakt kraftpaket och erbjuder åtta kärnor med 16 trådar i varje konfiguration. I testet ägnar vi oss åt AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS - den snabbaste modellen som för närvarande är installerad i GEM12. Alternativt kan du också byta till AMD Ryzen 7 7840HSeller till AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX. Aoostar GEM12 är utrustad med 32 GB RAM och en 1 TB SSD och kan också hantera minnesintensiva uppgifter. Enligt tillverkaren kan maximalt 128 GB snabb DDR5 RAM installeras.

Testförhållanden

Vi använde energiprofilen "Hög prestanda" för alla prestandatester med den här enheten. Dessutom fanns det inga ändringar i BIOS, så alla värden bestämdes enligt fabriksinställningarna.

Processor

Tre strömlägen tillgängliga (källa: Aoostar)

AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS är baserad på Zen4-arkitekturen och kombinerar åtta inbyggda beräkningskärnor, vilket säkerställer en hög arbetshastighet. Aoostar GEM12 kan dock inte väsentligen överträffa sina konkurrenter. Tillsammans med AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS levererar Acemagic AM18 ungefär samma prestanda, även om en AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX är cirka tio procentenheter långsammare i vårt betyg. Dessa två processorer är av intresse tillsammans med AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS, eftersom GEM12 mini-PC också är tillgänglig med dessa SoC.

Om vi tar en titt på Intels toppmodell - Core 9 Ultra 185H - som är installerad i Minisforum AtomMan X7 Ti, finns det ingen skillnad i prestanda vid första anblicken. I de enskilda testerna levererar dock Intel-modellen nästan 10 till 15 procent mer multi-thread-prestanda.

Tillverkaren anger en maximal strömförbrukning på 70 watt, vilket är lagrat som prestandaläge i BIOS. Det balanserade läget med maximalt 65 watt är standardinställningen. Det finns också ett alternativ för tyst läge, vilket innebär att processorn endast har 54 watt tillgängligt vid topprestanda. Vi utförde alla tester i balanserat läge. I prestandaläget kan AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS leverera cirka 5 procent mer multithread-prestanda

Masslagring

Aoostar GEM12 är utrustad med en 1 TB SSD från Crucial. I jämförelse ser vi ett utmärkt resultat, med vilket vår testenhet kan säkra första plats. Aoostar installerar aktiv kylning i GEM12, men den består bara av en fläkt. Denna kombination är dock inte tillräcklig för att hålla prestandan stabil under belastning. Förlusten i prestanda är dock bara mycket liten och knappast märkbar. Två NVMe SSD-enheter med en längd på 80 millimeter kan installeras i enheten.

Aoostar GEM12 med GPD G1 eGPU i prestandakontrollen

Aoostar installerar ett OCuLink-gränssnitt i GEM12, som i första hand är avsett för användning av externa grafikkort. USB4 är också tillgängligt, men OCuLink-anslutningens bandbredd är bättre och möjliggör cirka 10 procent högre 3D-prestanda. Vi testade en gång prestandan i samband med GPD G1 (AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT) och körde några syntetiska och spelbenchmarks.

Prestandan i kombination med GPD G1 eGPU är bättre än alla andra enheter som vi hittills har testat i den här kombinationen. Skillnaden i prestanda jämfört med Aoostar GEM10 eller Minisforum AtomMan x7 Ti är försumbar. Många spel kan nu avnjutas i hög kvalitet.

Trots att Aoostar har installerat två fläktar i GEM12 är enheten betydligt tystare än alla andra enheter i den här recensionen. I tomgångsläge uppmätte vi en ljudtrycksnivå på bara 27,6 dB(A). Under genomsnittlig belastning når Aoostar GEM12 36 dB(A) och är tyst och hörbar. I stresstestet nådde vi sedan maximal volym på drygt 38 dB(A). Det behagliga fläktljudet, som inte tenderar att vara irriterande på grund av sin låga frekvens, bör betonas positivt.

Temperatur

Metallhöljet fördelar den resulterande värmen ganska bra. Vi dokumenterar ett område på ovansidan som den varmaste punkten, där vi mäter cirka 46 °C på ytan. Komponenterna är ventilerade uppifrån och ned. Två fläktar arbetar här för att dra in frisk luft. Den nedre fläkten förser dock bara masslagret och RAM-minnet med frisk luft, medan fläkten på ovansidan kyler processorn. Det här kylkonceptet fungerar och med en maxtemperatur på 84,4 °C finns det inget att anmärka på när det gäller temperaturen. De fördefinierade prestandagränserna nås; den fulla prestandan hos AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS kan bibehållas permanent även under stresstestet.

Energihantering

Tyvärr vinner Aoostar GEM12 inte effektivitetskronan. Medan energibehovet i viloläge fortfarande är rimligt med 8 till 14,6 watt, ökar det betydligt under belastning. Med 73,9 watt kräver vårt testprov betydligt mer energi än Minisforum AtomMan X7 Tisom ligger på samma nivå när det gäller prestanda. På kort sikt måste strömförsörjningen på 120 watt kunna leverera upp till 95 watt, vilket inte orsakar några problem i praktiken.

Aoostar GEM12 i recension: tillhandahållen av Aoostar

Aoostar GEM12 är idealisk i kombination med AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS och är en kraftfull mini-PC med mycket prestanda. Tillsammans med 32 GB RAM och 1 TB lagringsutrymme är den kompakta datorn idealisk för många uppgifter. När det gäller relativ prestanda kan Aoostar GEM12 dock inte skilja sig från sina konkurrenter, eftersom de också levererar lika bra prestanda. Visuellt har Aoostar avstått från alla gimmicks på vår testenhet. Om du fortfarande värdesätter dessa små detaljer kan du ta en titt på Pro-modellen i serien, eftersom den är utrustad med en liten skärm på toppen. Vi ser dock inte behovet av detta.

Aoostar GEM12 levererar imponerande prestanda med AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS. Ett modernt gränssnitt och ett högkvalitativt hölje med kraftfull kylning är ett bra försäljningsargument, som går hand i hand med ett rimligt pris.

Höljet på Aoostar GEM12 är perfekt färdigt och materialvalet är lika utmärkt. Blandningen av aluminium och plast är bra och förbättrar enhetens utseende och känsla. När det gäller inköpspriset är Aoostar GEM12 betydligt bättre positionerad än vissa andra mini-PC-datorer i denna prestandaklass. Detta gäller även anslutningsmöjligheterna för Aoostar GEM12. Med USB4 och OCuLink har tillverkaren installerat två moderna gränssnitt som säkert kan påverka ett köpbeslut. Aoostar kan dock inte hävda detta som en unik försäljningsargument, eftersom Minisforum redan har integrerat OCuLink-anslutningen i några av sina modeller. Kombinationen med det externa grafikkortet gav dock bäst prestanda med Aoostar GEM12.

En annan positiv aspekt av Aoostar GEM12 är det inbyggda kylsystemet: under full belastning är mini-PC: n betydligt tystare än de konkurrenter som vi testade här. Prestandan hos AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS kan hållas stabil hela tiden. Aoostar gör ett litet misstag med kylningen av SSD. Trots aktiv kylning är det en minimal förlust av prestanda under belastning. Den Aoostar GEM10 kunde leverera en mer stabil SSD-prestanda med en mer massiv kylenhet. En annan liten svag punkt är prestandan för den trådlösa anslutningen. Vi kan inte riktigt förstå varför tillverkaren inte installerade Wi-Fi 6E, eftersom Aoostar är utrustad med moderna anslutningar som USB4 och OCuLink. Lyckligtvis är den trådlösa modulen inte permanent installerad och kan bytas ut. Dessutom har användaren fortfarande två 2,5 GBit-gränssnitt tillgängliga, vilket inte nödvändigtvis är standarden för mini-PC: er.
