De flesta känner till minidatorer när det handlar om små datorer för kontors- eller multimediauppgifter. Olika tillverkare har också mycket kraftfulla enheter i sin portfölj som till och med kan fungera som speldatorer. Förutsättningen för detta är att man använder ett dedikerat grafikkort för att kunna visa moderna spel på skärmen. Asus strävar efter just detta mål med ROG NUC. Redan namnet avslöjar att det är en gaming-dator, eftersom ROG-serien är det bästa Asus erbjuder i sina olika produktserier. Efter förvärvet av Intels NUC-division har Asus nu ett brett utbud av minidatorer i sin portfölj. Asus ROG NUC 14 är för närvarande toppmodellen när det gäller prestanda i kombination med kompakthet.

Asus erbjuder ROG NUC i två grundversioner. Förutom en Intel Core Ultra 9 185H a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 bärbar GPU samt 32 GB RAM och en 1 TB SSD, vilket återspeglas i vår testenhet. Som ett alternativ till den version vi testade finns ROG NUC också tillgänglig med en Intel Core Ultra 7 155H parat med en Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 bärbar GPU. Priset är minst 1 750 euro för instegsmodellen, även om toppmodellen byter ägare för 2 499 euro. Barebone-varianterna är något billigare och börjar på 1 459 euro. Toppmodellen går för 1 729 euro över den virtuella disken. Det bör noteras att RAM, SSD och operativsystemet inte ingår i leveransomfattningen. Barebone-alternativet för Asus ROG NUC är verkligen värt att överväga på grund av den mycket höga prisskillnaden jämfört med de förkonfigurerade enheterna. Ändå är priserna relativt höga när vi tittar på de nuvarande konkurrenterna, som vi redan har testat i detalj. Vi har sammanställt en lista över de jämförande enheterna i följande tabell.

Utformningen av Asus ROG NUC skiljer sig avsevärt från konventionella NUC-minidatorer. Jämfört med de andra konkurrenterna, som vänder sig till samma målgrupp, ser vi också vissa skillnader när det gäller utrymmeskrav. De olika tillverkarna förlitar sig här på olika konstruktioner som ska säkerställa god kylning eller tillgodose en optisk aspekt. Asus ROG NUC har en liknande design och kylning som Minisforum AtomMan G7 PT. Till skillnad från sin rival från Fjärran Östern kan Asus ROG NUC också användas horisontellt. Det valfria stativet behöver inte nödvändigtvis användas. Vi rekommenderar dock att du använder det för att säkerställa bättre kylning.

Materialvalet består av en blandning av metall och plast. Det sistnämnda är det vanligaste valet, eftersom alla externa delar av höljet är tillverkade av plast. Detta är lite synd och minskar den haptiska känslan. En LED-panel är installerad på sidan eller toppen (vid horisontell användning), som visar Asus-logotypen med en plastinsats. Belysningsmodulen, som är kompatibel med Aura-Sync, kan styras via den egna mjukvaran. Inuti finns ett robust metallchassi som innehåller alla komponenter.

Vikten på Asus ROG NUC Mini PC är inte ovanlig med cirka 2,6 kg. Stativet väger 445 gram och den stora 330-watts strömförsörjningsenheten lägger till ytterligare 1 012 gram.

Utrustning

Asus erbjuder ett bra urval när det gäller anslutningsmöjligheter: Det finns totalt sex USB typ A-portar, varav två är placerade på framsidan. Det finns också en USB-C-port på baksidan. Detta erbjuder full Thunderbolt 4-anslutning och dess fördelar. För att ansluta skärmar kan du välja mellan HDMI, DisplayPort eller Thunderbolt. Alla alternativ är tillgängliga och även flera skärmar samtidigt är inget problem för mini-datorn. Det finns också en SD-kortläsare med UHS-I-stöd och en RJ45 LAN-anslutning. Asus ROG NUC är utrustad med en modern Wi-Fi-modul från Intel. Mer exakt är det en Killer Wi-Fi 6E AX1690i WLAN-modul, som också kan fungera i 6 GHz-frekvensbandet. Vi utförde alla mätningar med Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000. Testet visar en head-to-head-duell med Minisforum AtomMan G7 PT, som visar sig vara skivtunn till förmån för Asus. Det finns tydliga skillnader i prestanda mellan frekvensbanden 5 GHz och 6 GHz. En trådbunden nätverksanslutning är också möjlig med Asus ROG NUC. En 2,5G LAN-port finns tillgänglig på baksidan.

Underhåll

Underhållsarbete är i allmänhet möjligt på Asus ROG NUC. Det som är bra med detta är att Asus inte behöver en översvämning av skruvar för att komma åt RAM eller SSD. Efter att ha tagit bort toppanelen kan vi se att upp till tre M.2 SSD-enheter kan installeras i enheten. WLAN-modulen, som också kan bytas ut vid behov, är placerad under den redan installerade masslagringen. Kylenheten för CPU och GPU är placerad på andra sidan av kortet och kan nås med lite manuell fingerfärdighet för att rengöra fläktarna vid behov.

Hållbarhet

Asus ROG NUC Mini PC är förpackad i en snygg låda, som är enorm i förhållande till enheten. Det finns mycket skum inuti för att skydda enheten från skador under transport. Det är inte känt om tillverkaren använder speciellt återvunna material för tillverkningen av själva Mini PC. Garantiperioden på 36 månader är värd att nämna.

Prestanda - Intel Core Ultra 9 185H med full effekt

Asus ROG NUC finns tillgänglig i toppkonfigurationen med Intel Core Ultra 9 185H som tillsammans med Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 bärbar dator ger enastående prestanda. Vi rekommenderar att du använder den senaste hårdvaran för att kunna utnyttja alla funktioner fullt ut. Toppmodellen är ibland lämplig för QHD-spel, även om den något billigare modellen (Intel Core Ultra 7 155H + Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 bärbar dator) av ROG NUC är mer lämpad för FHD-spel. Vi tar en närmare titt på detaljerna senare.

Testförhållanden

Vi använde energiprofilen "Performance" för alla prestandatester med den här enheten. Avvikelser från detta gjordes endast i mätningarna av strömförbrukning och buller enligt våra testkriterier.

Processor

Asus förlitar sig på toppmodellen i Meteor Lake H-serien från Intel som processor. Den nya Intel Core Ultra 9 185H erbjuder 16 kärnor och 22 trådar, vilket gör SoC identisk med Intel Core Ultra 7 155H när det gäller antalet kärnor och trådar. Skillnaderna mellan de två SoC: erna är bara i klockfrekvenserna. Denna jämförelse är intressant eftersom Asus också installerar Intel Core Ultra 7 155H i sin ROG NUC. På grund av detta har vi också inkluderat Intel Core Ultra 7 155H i benchmarköversikten.

När det gäller strömförbrukning ger Asus Intel Core Ultra 9 185H en kortsiktig effektgräns på upp till 115 watt, vilket teoretiskt sett skulle göra det möjligt för SoC att leverera maximal prestanda. Under kontinuerlig belastning sjunker strömförbrukningen till 90 watt, vilket fortfarande ger SoC en hög effektgräns. Vi nådde dock inte den maximala effektgränsen i våra tester. Vid denna tidpunkt kan vi redan säga så här mycket. I en prestandajämförelse kan Intel Core Ultra 9 185H fortfarande hålla sin egen i vårt testprov och uppnå ett resultat över genomsnittet. Endast AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX är inte besegrad - den inbyggda 16-kärnan från AMD är klart överlägsen Intel SoC när det gäller rena flertrådade uppgifter.

Cinebench R15 multi loop

Asus ROG NUC har inga problem med den kontinuerliga Cinebench R15-slingan. Alla 50 körningar behärskas av Intel Core Ultra 9 185H utan några märkbara prestandadroppar. I de registrerade telemetridata kan vi se att SoC: s effektgräns inte utnyttjas fullt ut. Endast strax under 99 watt uppnås som mest. Med en maxtemperatur på 86 °C når SoC ännu inte ett kritiskt värde som skulle leda till att processorn måste strypas på grund av höga temperaturer.

NPU-prestanda

Intel Core Intel Core Ultra 9 185H innehåller en Neural Processing Unit (NPU) som, som en separat del av SoC, kan beräkna AI-applikationer särskilt effektivt. Vi använder benchmarkprogrammet UL Procyon AI Interface för att dokumentera prestandan hos NPU och det dedikerade grafikkortet, som också kan användas här. Den förmodligen snabbare CPU var redan inte övertygande i AtomMan X7 Ti mini forum. Bilden upprepas med Asus ROG NUC, och NPU-prestandan är ännu lägre. Den Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Bärbar dator kan uppnå ett utmärkt resultat på grund av sina RT-kärnor och slå Intel Arc A770.

DPC-latenstider

Asus ROG NUC lider nästan av ett totalt misslyckande med DPC-latenserna. Drivrutinerna verkar inte alls vara väloptimerade. Även när vi bara surfar med Edge-webbläsaren når vi det maximala värdet. 4K-videouppspelningen och Prime95-belastningstestet kan inte pressa värdet högre. En M.2 SSD med 1 TB lagringsutrymme är installerad i Asus ROG NUC. Samsung SSD arbetar med full PCIe 4.0x4-hastighet och utnyttjar gränssnittet tekniskt fullt ut. I jämförelse kan prestandan inte riktigt matcha Kingston SSD i Minisforum G7 PT kan hålla jämna steg. Asus har kylningsproblemet under kontroll, vilket framgår av den kontinuerliga prestandan. Det finns inga droppar i prestanda. Totalt tre M.2 2280 SSD-enheter kan installeras i Asus ROG NUC. Det är bra eftersom mini-datorn trots allt är speciellt utformad för spel. Som ett resultat borde Asus ha utrustat ROG NUC med en 2 TB SSD direkt. När allt kommer omkring kan masslagringen utökas.

Det dedikerade grafikkortet i Asus ROG NUC är ett Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop. Effektgränsen för Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop mobila grafikkort sträcker sig från 35 till 140 watt. I vår testenhet kan vi se att det dedikerade grafikkortet arbetar med 130 watt. I resultaten av de syntetiska riktmärkena ligger vårt testprov bakom Minisforum G7 PT. Gapet är dock mycket litet och ligger bara i det lägre ensiffriga procentintervallet.

Om du vill uppdatera drivrutinen för det dedikerade grafikkortet kan du göra det via tillverkarens officiella webbplats. De direkt nedladdade drivrutinerna från Nvidia kan också installeras utan problem, vilket är en fördel jämfört med konkurrenterna från Fjärran Östern. Acemagic-enheterna (Tank03, M2A) genererade fel så att endast en specialanpassad drivrutin kunde installeras

Prestanda för spel

I stort sett är Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Bärbar dator levererar enastående spelprestanda. Alla testade spel kan spelas underbart i Full HD-upplösning. Det dedikerade grafikkortet klarar även vissa spel i högre upplösningar. För att uppnå spelbara bildfrekvenser kan de senaste funktionerna som DLSS och ramgenerering också användas tack vare Ada Lovelace-arkitekturen. Det begränsade VRAM-minnet (8 GB) orsakar en märkbar minskning av prestandan om det finns en flaskhals. Samma öde drabbar också AMD Radeon RX 7600Msom är installerad i Minisforum G7 PT. Återigen kan Asus ROG NUC inte helt segra över sin huvudkonkurrent. Fördelarna med AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX är särskilt tydliga i låga upplösningar på grund av dess utmärkta enkärniga prestanda. Kombinationen av Intel Core Ultra 9 185H och Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 laptop ger fortfarande bra prestanda. Asus kan utnyttja fördelarna med de nuvarande CPU- och GPU-arkitekturerna, särskilt i de senaste spelen. De två Acemagic-konkurrenterna och även Minisforum NUCXi7 levererar genomgående lägre prestanda.

Utsläpp - kraftfull hårdvara kyls tyst

Bullerutsläpp

Asus ROG NUC är utrustad med en mycket kraftfull kylenhet, som inte bara kyler CPU och GPU på ett tillförlitligt sätt utan också relativt tyst. I jämförelse är Asus ROG NUC mini PC den tystaste enheten. Ibland arbetar gaming-PC:n till och med tyst i viloläge. Under genomsnittlig belastning genererar de två fläktarna en ljudtrycksnivå på 37,9 d(A). I stresstestet uppmätte vi 44,2 dB(A), även om fläkthastigheterna sänks hörbart om och om igen (ca 39 dB(A)). Vi registrerade liknande värden under spel under genomsnittlig belastning.

Temperatur

För höljets temperaturer använde vi Asus ROG NUC i horisontellt läge, utan stativ. Vissa områden värms upp märkbart mer än andra områden på grund av det interna arrangemanget av komponenterna. Vi ser dock inte extremt höga temperaturer vid någon tidpunkt. Med Intel Core Ultra 9 185Hskrapar vi 100 ° C-markeringen, men det här är inte ett problem för mobila processorer. Intel själva tillåter SoC en maximal driftstemperatur på upp till 110 °C. Med det dedikerade grafikkortet blir temperaturerna betydligt svalare under belastning. Den genomsnittliga temperaturen för Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 bärbar dator är 70 °C, även om hotspot ibland kan nå 78 °C. Men det finns ingen anledning till panik här heller. Strömförbrukningen på 130 watt kan bibehållas hela tiden, vilket sammanfattningsvis talar för en utmärkt kylenhet.

Strömförbrukning

När det gäller strömförbrukning överraskar Asus ROG NUC oss med utmärkta resultat: Vi dokumenterar endast 10,6 till 27,5 watt i viloläge, vilket är betydligt lägre jämfört med de andra konkurrenterna. Under belastning klättrar energiförbrukningen upp till 244 watt som mest. Vårt testexemplar nådde dock bara det maximala värdet under en mycket kort tid, vilket framgår av de registrerade uppgifterna. Vi mätte bara låg strömförbrukning på 171 watt under spel, vilket återigen är det bästa resultatet i jämförelse.

Asus utrustar ROG NUC med en 330-watts strömförsörjningsenhet. Baserat på våra mätresultat är detta något överdimensionerat.

Det finns inte många kompakta speldatorer på marknaden just nu. Med ROG NUC har Asus en kraftfull och samtidigt mycket kompakt speldator i sin portfölj, som är utrustad med den senaste hårdvaran som för närvarande finns på marknaden. Den lilla 2,5-literslådan rymmer en Intel Core Ultra 9 185H och en Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 laptop, som tillsammans ger en stenhård grund för att njuta av alla aktuella spel i minst Full HD. Det dedikerade grafikkortet kan även hantera många spel i högre upplösningar. Du kan också använda funktioner som ramgenerering i kombination med DLSS, vilket kan öka bildfrekvensen avsevärt i olika spel. Förutom CPU- och GPU-funktionerna är resten av utrustningen också imponerande. Ett förnuftigt urval av externa gränssnitt erbjuds och till skillnad från de enheter från Fjärran Östern som används här finns det en fullständig Thunderbolt-anslutning. Jämfört med en ren USB4-anslutning har Thunderbolt några fördelar som kan göra hela skillnaden under vissa omständigheter.

Asus ROG NUC är en extremt kompakt speldator och har en fantastisk spelprestanda. Den största fördelen jämfört med jämförbara enheter kan ses i utsläppen.

I grund och botten är Asus ROG NUC en utmärkt speldator i miniatyrformat som knappast har några betydande svagheter. Ändå räcker det inte för att slå Minisforum G7 PT i de flesta jämförelser. För sin del använder Minisforum en avancerad SoC från AMD, som är mycket överlägsen sin Intel-motsvarighet i ROG NUC. Båda enheterna är på samma nivå när det gäller de grafikkort som är installerade. Både Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop och AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT har sina styrkor. Grafikadaptrarnas prestanda varierar beroende på spel. Mindre svagheter kan ses i kortläsaren, som bara erbjuder UHS-I-hastighet, även om den fortfarande levererar en acceptabel prestanda. Enheten lider också av orimligt höga DPC-latenstider, och NPU-prestandan hos Intel Core Ultra 9 185H är också relativt låg.

De största styrkorna hos Asus ROG NUC inkluderar den mycket låga strömförbrukningen under belastning och den utmärkta kylenheten. Asus lyckas kyla CPU och GPU under belastning utan något öronbedövande ljud. Med tanke på att nätaggregatet på 330 watt fortfarande har reserver och att inga kritiska temperaturer uppnås, skulle vi ha velat ha lite mer spelrum när vi utnyttjar 3D-prestandan.

När det gäller priset måste man fråga sig varför Asus ROG NUC kostar långt över 2 000 euro i den konfiguration vi testade. För ett liknande pris kan du också välja en bärbar dator som också har en skärm och inmatningsenheter. Du kan ta en närmare titt på Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. När det gäller förhållandet mellan pris och prestanda kan Asus inte konkurrera med Minisforum G7 PT. Denna är listad med en RRP på 1 699 euro och är därför betydligt billigare. Asus ROG NUC-modellerna är betydligt billigare som barebone-alternativ. Intel Core Ultra 7 155H-modellen kostar cirka 1 450 euro och Core Ultra 9 185H-modellen 1 750 euro.
