Med Aorus 15-W9 levererar Gigabyte en spellaptop i 15.6-tumsformat. Det här är den kompaktare och lättare efterföljaren till Aorus X5 v8. Den inbyggda Core-i7-8750H-processorn har mer än tillräckligt med datorkraft för att driva alla de vanliga applikationstyperna i flera år framåt. GeForce RTX-2060-kortet visar alla moderna datorspel smidigt på Full HD-skärmen och det går alltid att välja höga eller maximala inställningar.
Vid belastning blir enheten riktigt varm och producerar dessutom mycket oljud. Utöver det vanliga surret från de två fläktarna så går det ibland också att höra ett visslande ljud från en av dem.
Även om Aorus 15-W9 gör vad det är tänkt att göra, vilket är att köra spel smidigt, så är den heller inte utan brister.
En snabb NVMe SSD säkrar att systemet körs smidigt och det finns dessutom en extra hårddisk på 2 TB, så det kommer inte uppstå någon lagringsbrist på ett tag. Dessutom är det möjligt att utöka lagringen eftersom datorn har en ledig M.2 2280-plats. För att komma åt datorns lagringsmedia behöver du dock öppna höljet.
IPS-skärmen med 144 Hz bilduppdatering gjorde oss nöjda med stabila betraktningsvinklar och korta responstider. Även om ljusstyrka och kontrast ligger på acceptabla nivåer bör de vara högre på en laptop från det här prisskiktet. Det inbyggda tangentbordet lämnade ett gott intryck. Batteritiden är inte värd att nämna.
Den som äger en Aorus X5-modell och vill byta till Aorus 15-W9 (eller till Aorus 15-X9 som har en starkare GPU) riskerar att bli besviken då detta innebär en del kompromisser. Som exempel har SD-kortläsaren i full storlek som fanns i X5 bytts ut mot en microSD-modell i 15-W9. 15-W9 har heller inte stöd för G-Sync och batteritiden visar sig vara sämre än på X5. Dessutom har Thunderbolt 3-anslutningen som fanns på Aorus X5 v8 bytts ut mot en USB 3.1 Gen 2, vilket är ett steg bakåt. En model från Gigabytes Aero 15-serie kan därför vara ett bättre val för många intresserade köpare.
