Med Omen 16 kan köparna välja mellan den "normala" versionen och den så kallade Transcend-varianten, som i många avseenden knappast skiljer sig från varandra. Läs vår recension för att upptäcka hur 16-tums enheten klarar sig mot konkurrenterna.

Testmodellen Omen Transcend 16 - med ändelsen u1095ng - kan för närvarande köpas för strax under 3 000 USD. För detta pris får köparen en Core i9-14900HX i kombination med en GeForce RTX 4070 som tenderar att tillhöra mer mellanklassen och inte high-end-kategorin på grund av dess ganska magra 8 GB VRAM. Detta kompletteras med 32 GB DDR5-5600 RAM-minne (2x 16 GB SO-DIMM) och en 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD. Höjdpunkten är den livfulla OLED-panelen som sägs ha 2 560 x 1 600 pixlar, 240 Hz, 400 cd/m² och 100 % DCI P3. Paketet avrundas med Windows 11 Home.

Fall

Transcend 16 har en iögonfallande design och ur en visuell synvinkel är den imponerande smal (alla konkurrerande enheter är tjockare förutom Zephyrus G16). När det gäller stabiliteten levererar åtminstone basenheten en stabil prestanda. Däremot hade locket - som med så många andra enheter - behövt bättre vridstyvhet. Vid första anblicken har den matta ytan ett premiumutseende, men HP har mestadels bara använt plast. Inga klagomål kan göras när det gäller byggkvalitet. Tillverkaren förtjänar beröm för den generösa 180° öppningsvinkeln även om gångjärnen kunde vara starkare. När det gäller vikten, 2,3 kg, ligger enheten i mitten av paketet och detta gör 16-tumsskärmen varken särskilt lätt eller tung.

Funktioner

Portvalet kan beskrivas som mycket modernt. Medan baksidan rymmer en RJ45-port (tyvärr inte 2,5 Gbit LAN), en HDMI 2.1-utgång och en USB 3.0-port (typ A), är vänster sida hem för två Thunderbolt 4-portar (inklusive Power Delivery) och ett ljuduttag. På höger sida finns endast en ensam USB 3.0-port (typ A). Köparna får nöja sig med ett Kensington-lås och en kortläsare.

Kommunikation

Wi-Fi-prestandan ligger på en hög nivå och med en sändningshastighet på nästan 1 400 Mbit/s och cirka 1 700 Mbit/s när det gäller att ta emot data (1 m avstånd från referensroutern) ligger prestandan någonstans mellan bra och mycket bra. I Wi-Fi 6E AX211 har HP installerat en uppdaterad trådlös Intel-modul.

Underhåll

När det gäller underhåll är Omen 16 inte särskilt komplicerad. Efter att ha tagit hand om sex, små, korsade skruvar kan basplattan lyftas från sin förankrade position med hjälp av ett platt verktyg. Inuti enheten är alla viktiga komponenter tillgängliga, vare sig det gäller RAM-banker, batteri, M.2-plats, fläktar eller den trådlösa modulen.

Inmatningsenheter

Tangentbord

Med sina transparenta WASD-tangenter har HP satsat på en viss gamer-look. Layouten är mycket unik och det tar till och med lite tid att vänja sig vid den. Tillverkaren har valt att inte installera en numerisk knappsats och har istället gett 16-tumsenheten separata, väl tilltagna piltangenter. Andra beslut (till exempel placeringen av strömknappen) är verkligen svåra att förstå sig på. Skrivupplevelsen är medioker och HP har varit tvungna att använda en mekanisk modell för att få bättre feedback. Fans av bakgrundsbelysta tangenter kan se fram emot flera färger.

Pekplatta

Med en storlek på ca 13,5 x 8,5 cm kan den behagligt stora pekplattan beskrivas som anspråkslös när det gäller precision, jämnhet och klickytor. På samma sätt är stödet för gester intuitivt.

Display

Åsikterna går isär när det gäller OLED-paneler. På den negativa sidan finns några problem med de mycket reflekterande ytorna (vilket kan göra det svårt att använda dem utomhus), skärmen flimrar på alla ljusstyrkor och problemet med potentiell inbränning.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Prismässigt börjar Omen Transcend 16 på cirka 1 600 USD. Instegsvarianten är utrustad med en Core i7-13700HX, a GeForce RTX 406016 GB RAM-minne och en IPS-skärm med dålig upplösning. Vår granskningsmodell befinner sig mer i den övre änden av pris- och specifikationsskalan.

Testförhållanden

Den förinstallerade spelhubbens prestandahantering är något svåråtkomlig. I den tillhörande menyn väntar tre energilägen och en värmehanterare. Eftersom prestandaläget - analogt med de flesta bärbara speldatorer - säkerställer både bättre prestanda men också oproportionerlig bullerproduktion, utfördes alla mätningar med det balanserade läget. Därför kan de fastställda värdena endast jämföras med föregångaren i begränsad utsträckning. Utöver detta var både den automatiska fläktkontrollen och den automatiska grafikomkopplingen aktiva.

Processor

Core i9-14900HX är nästan överdimensionerad jämfört med GPU-kraften och höljets tjocklek. Raptor Lake-seriens 10 nm-modell erbjuder 8 prestandakärnor med hyper threading och 16 effektivitetskärnor utan HT, vilket resulterar i totalt 32 trådar. I det balanserade läget når processorn bara sin potential i begränsad utsträckning. Det bästa exemplet är vår Cinebench-loop: Även om prestandan var relativt hög under de första körningarna, sjönk poängen ganska kraftigt efter en kort tid (men sedan låg den kvar på en konstant nivå). Sammantaget är det bara tillräckligt för att nå nivån på Ultra 7 155H (ROG Zephyrus G16) eller Ryzen 7 7840HS (Schenker XMG Core 16).

Masslagring

Jämfört med CPU-prestandan observerade vi inga nedgångar i SSD-prestandan. Den installerade Kioxia-enheten är lite långsammare än SK hynix-enheten som finns i den gamla Transcend, men trots detta levererar den tillräckligt höga hastigheter. Det som är synd är att 16-tummaren bara har en M.2-plats och det betyder att den inbyggda SSD-enheten måste bytas ut för att utöka lagringsutrymmet.

GeForce RTX 4070 är baserad på Ada Lovelace-arkitekturen och ligger prestandamässigt närmare RTX 4060 än RTX 4080 RTX 4080. Trots den generösa 130-watts TGP, navigerade Omen 16 vår benchmarkbana på ett sätt som var något under genomsnittet, även om skillnaden mot konkurrenterna ibland är mycket liten. RTX 4070: s framtidssäkring är ganska dålig på grund av den låga mängden VRAM. I vissa spel kan 8 GB redan bli en begränsande faktor.
