Razer Blade 16 (2024) - recension av bärbar dator: Nu med supersnabb Samsung OLED

OLED eller Mini-LED?

Tillverkare av bärbara datorer har det inte lätt just nu. Intel Gen 14 har knappast levererat någon förbättrad prestanda, det finns inga nya Nvidia GPU:er att installera - så vilka anledningar kan du ge kunderna att köpa dina årliga uppdateringar av bärbara datorer? Razer ser sitt svar i skärmen: Världens första 16-tums 240-Hz OLED från Samsung är vad tillverkaren gör reklam för. Är den nya skärmen verkligen så bra och finns det några andra nya funktioner? Vårt test kommer att ta reda på det.

Vad är nytt med Razer Blade jämfört med föregångaren från förra året? Kort sagt: WiFi 7, Intel Gen 14 och en OLED-skärm. Den senare är vad Razer marknadsför som sin stora nyhet. Trots detta har man behållit föregångarens redan utmärkta Mini-LED-alternativ, vilket innebär att du nu kan välja mellan OLED och Mini-LED. Så i den här recensionen kommer vi att ta en mycket noggrann titt på den bärbara datorns skärm i synnerhet. Dessutom kommer vi att kontrollera vilken prestanda Intel Gen 14 kan leverera i Blade 16 jämfört med Gen 13.

Vår 2024 Razer Blade 16 kommer att tävla mot andra 16-tumsspelare med en RTX 4090, först och främst Lenovos flaggskepp Legion 9i Gen 8 16IRX8- men även Schenker XMG Neo 16 E23 och Asus ROG Zephyrus M16. Och naturligtvis kommer vi också att jämföra den med sin föregångare med Gen-13-HX CPU och RTX 4090. För att åtminstone ha en bärbar dator med en ny Gen-14 CPU i jämförelsefältet, kommer vi också att ställa den mot Lenovo Legion 5i 16 G9 med i7-14650HX.

Fodral och anslutningsmöjligheter - Unibody i metall med titanplatta

Praktiskt taget ingenting har förändrats när det gäller datorns hölje - hårdvaran är fortfarande inrymd i ett unibody-hölje av aluminium och en titanplatta sitter framtill på basen för att förbättra dess robusthet. Både höljet och tangentbordet fortsätter att vara riktiga fingeravtrycksmagneter.

En förändring har dock gjorts: Du har nu möjlighet att välja "Mercury"-utgåvan av Blade som har en lätt design.

Inmatningsenheter - Är pekplattan nästan för stor?

Den bärbara datorns membranbrytartangenter är ganska stora och har lite utrymme mellan dem. Razer har i sin tur valt att inte installera en numerisk knappsats.

Tangenternas lyft är kort till genomsnittligt och deras återkoppling är anständig. Tyvärr har upp/ner-piltangenterna halverats i höjd men bortsett från detta känns layouten trevlig och rymlig.

RGB-bakgrundsbelysningen per knapp (Razer Chroma) kan konfigureras i stor utsträckning via Synapse-appen, vilket är typiskt för Razer.

Pekplattan är massiv! Så stor att handledsstöden bredvid den nästan verkar för små. Detta leder ibland till att pekplattans ingångar misslyckas eftersom din hand av misstag har rört vid plattan när du helt enkelt vilade den på sidan. Mindre skulle ha varit mer i denna aspekt.

Display - Blade 16 med OLED eller Mini-LED?

Den nya Samsung OLED är installerad i vår testmodell, som är den som Razer talar så högt om. Du kan dock också fortfarande välja att få den bärbara datorn med de bra Mini-LED-skärmarna. Kunden står inför ett svårt beslut, eftersom båda paneltyperna har sina egna fördelar och nackdelar.

Mini-LED-skärmarna kan uppnå upp till 1 000 nits (HDR) och föregångaren klarade fortfarande över 700 nits i SDR-läge. Vår OLED uppnådde "bara" ett genomsnitt på 420 nits, men i gengäld har den ett perfekt svartvärde och därmed höga kontraster. Den kan perfekt göra enskilda områden på displayen mörkare.

Mini-LED-skärmen har två inbyggda upplösningslägen, nämligen FHD+ och UHD+. OLED är "begränsad" till 1 600p (QHD+) men har extremt snabba responstider på mellan 0,2 (grå-till-grå) och 0,4 millisekunder (svart-till-vit). Oavsett vilken skärm du väljer i slutändan kommer du definitivt inte att få en dålig skärm från Razer.

Samsung OLED-skärmen i vår Blade-testmodell har en reflekterande, klar yta. Razer marknadsför modellen med alla typer av certifikat, inklusive VESA ClearMR 11000 (högsta skärmklarhet med rörliga objekt på skärmen vid 240 Hz), Calman Verified (färgkalibrerad) och VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500.

Förutom de många certifikaten är 16:10 OLED med en upplösning på 2 560 x 1 600 pixlar G-Sync ready och levereras förkalibrerad. Det finns ingen blödning i bakgrundsbelysningen med OLED.

Enligt Razer är alla 16-tums Blade-modeller förkalibrerade och våra mätningar bekräftade detta. Dess gråskala och färgavvikelser är mycket låga - bara runt 1. Detta innebär att Blade 16 är perfekt för redigering av foton och videor.

Tillverkaren ställer också in flera färgprofiler för detta i sin Synapse-programvara, nämligen DCI-P3, Adobe RGB, Rec. 709 och sRGB. Det finns också möjlighet att justera färgläget individuellt och det finns ett inbyggt färgläge. Vi valde DCI-P3 för våra mätningar.

Totalt sett anser vi att OLED-panelen är en aning bättre än Mini-LED-skärmen, vilket framför allt beror på dess utmärkta färgrymdstäckning, färgprecision, djupa svärta, höga kontrast och snabba svarstider.

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Utomhus kan det vara lite svårt att använda Blade 16 på grund av den reflekterande ytan. Den starka kontrasten kompenserar dock lite för detta. I skuggan bör det gå bra att arbeta utomhus.

Prestanda - Stagnation trots ny CPU-generation

Med sin kraftfulla RTX 4090 och inte mindre kraftfull Intel Core i9-14900HXär Blade 16 naturligtvis främst inriktad på spelare. Men med sin bra skärm och eleganta, tunna design har Razer alltid medvetet riktat in sig på kreativa proffs också. 32 GB RAM, WiFi 7 och en 2-TB SSD kompletterar funktionerna i vårt testexemplar.

Villkor för testning

Razer Synapse fungerar som kommando- och kontrollcenter i Blade-modellerna. Här kan du ställa in ett av de fyra prestandalägena(tyst, balanserad, turbo, anpassad) samt ljuseffekter och göra ytterligare justeringar.

Ibland måste programvaran uppdatera sig själv, vilket tar ovanligt lång tid; vi var till och med tvungna att starta om enheten efteråt, vilket var lite irriterande. Det går inte att komma åt alternativen under den långa, oönskade uppdateringen. Startskärmen är inte heller den bästa. Även om programvaran kommer ihåg den senaste fliken som öppnades under en Windows-session (t.ex. prestanda), måste vi alltid starta om innan vi kan komma åt startskärmen. Här måste vi först välja vår enhet (även om det är vår enda Razer-enhet) och sedan klicka på rätt flik; "Anpassa" är valt som standard (ställ in funktionstangenter) - en flik som förmodligen sällan används.

För våra benchmarks använde vi det anpassade läget för att maximera CPU:ns och GPU:ns prestanda. Vi lämnade dock fläktarna på automatisk, annars skulle de alltid gå upp till maximal volym. Ibland var det några problem med grafikväxling, vilket misslyckades för vissa appar. Till exempel startade 3DMark 06 endast i dGPU-läge.

Core i9-14900HX Core i9-14900HX är den nuvarande toppmodellen i Raptor-Lake-Refresh-serien för bärbara datorer. Jämfört med förra årets Raptor Lake har dock arkitekturen förblivit densamma - bara dess turboklockfrekvens är nu något högre. Den klockar nu upp till 5,8 GHz och förutom detta har Intels flaggskeppsprocessor 24 kärnor (8 P-kärnor, 16 E-kärnor; 32 trådar).

Under Cinebench R15-loopen levererade processorn mycket hög och konstant prestanda utan den vanliga prestandaförsämringen efter de första 1 till 3 körningarna. Trots detta var Legion 9 med förra årets toppmodell, Core i9-13980HXlika snabb och de andra toppmodellerna från Intels Gen 13 kom bara strax efter. Den svagare i7-14650HX inom den nuvarande Legion 5 släpade efter lite mer. Jämfört med sin föregångarevar den nuvarande CPU:ns resultat cirka 8 procent bättre. Trots denna utmärkta prestanda finns det inte alltför många argument som talar för att spendera mycket pengar på Intel Gen 14, eftersom Gen 13 är nästan identiskt snabb. I tabellen nedan har vi listat strömförbrukningen under Cinebench R15 med de olika prestandalägena och skärmdumparna till höger illustrerar dessa värden. Om vi kopplar bort strömmen växlar Synapse automatiskt till balanserat läge, vilket inte kan ändras. TDP-värdena var dock ännu lägre än i samma läge när den var inkopplad - de är snarare mer lika värdena för tyst läge.

Lagringsenheter

Razer har installerat en 2-TB PCIe-4-NVMe SSD från Samsung i vår testenhet. Den relativt snabba lagringsenheten uppnådde position 13 i vår bästa lista. I Blade kördes SSD först med optimala hastigheter men den kunde inte hålla dessa stabila under längre perioder - dess överföringshastigheter sjönk med cirka 30 procent efter ett tag på grund av termisk strypning. Därefter förblev det fortfarande en snabb modell, men Razer borde verkligen vidta åtgärder för att säkerställa att termisk strypning inte inträffar till att börja med.

Under de syntetiska 3DMark-riktmärkena gjorde RTX-4090-konkurrenterna alla liknande bra - bara XMG Neo 16 E23 var ungefär 7 procent snabbare. Sammantaget uppnådde RTX 4090 i Blade 16 resultat som var jämförbara med genomsnittet för alla bärbara datorer i vår databas som har en RTX 4090. Jämfört med 2023 Blade 16var den bara 5 procent bättre.

Spel

När det gäller spel visade den bärbara datorn upp en liknande bild. Återigen uppnådde Blade ett försprång på cirka 7 procent jämfört med sin föregångare. Andra sista generationens konkurrenter som t.ex XMG Neo 16 eller Legion 9 kom faktiskt till och med före Blade när det gällde spel.

Allt som allt har Blade 16 tillräckligt med kraft för att avbilda alla spel i 4K. Bildfrekvensen sjönk dock ibland till under 60 bilder per sekund när Dying Light kördes.

När vi spelade Cyberpunk 2077 1.6 klarade den nya Blade 16 cirka 52 fps i 4K Ultra. I 4K sjönk bildfrekvensen till ospelbara värden vid maximal RT-kvalitet, bästa GPU eller inte.

Även med DLSS eller Frame Generation (FG) kan du inte matcha skärmens uppdateringsfrekvens - åtminstone inte i dess ursprungliga 1 600p-upplösning. I Cyberpunk uppmätte vi 53,42 fps (DLSS) och cirka 85 fps (FG). I Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III uppnådde systemet 161 fps (DLSS) och 183 fps (FG) och i Alan Wake II uppmätte vi 73,5 (DLSS) och 112,6 fps (FG).

Utsläpp och energi - Razer Blade erbjuder massor av anpassningsalternativ

Utsläpp av buller

I anpassat läge med maximerad CPU- och GPU-prestanda stod fläktarna ibland stilla, men för det mesta surrade de på runt 27 dB - även när de var inaktiva.

I scenariot med genomsnittlig belastning (3DMark 06) ökade de hastigheten i två steg. Under de första 30 sekunderna ökade de långsamt och bibehöll denna genomsnittliga ljudnivå i ungefär en minut innan de ökade igen till över 43 dB. Här, till exempel, den betydligt billigare Dell G16 mycket tystare och ändrade inte sin utgångsvolym på 27 dB under hela testkörningen. Den bärbara datorns föregångare förblev också tystare i detta scenario.

Turbo-läget gav inga fördelar när det gäller prestanda eller bullerutsläpp när man tittar på Witcher 3 resultat, men Blade kyls bättre.

Trots nästan samma prestanda är den nya Blade minimalt mer högljudd än sin föregångare även under maximal belastning. Konkurrenten är dock ännu mer högljudd när man spelar.

Högtalare

Till skillnad från många andra bärbara speldatorer har Blade 16 fyra högtalare, två tweeters och två woofers. Detta ger lyssnaren balanserade höga och mellersta toner och - till skillnad från många konkurrenter - även bas är märkbar.

Detta har dock sina begränsningar och högtalarna är fortfarande inte överdrivet högljudda. För anslutning av analoga enheter finns endast en 3,5 mm jackanslutning.

Strömförbrukning

Nya Blade har gjort stora framsteg när det gäller strömförbrukningen. Särskilt vid tomgångskörning sjunker förbrukningen nu till en förväntad nivå; föregångaren var extremt strömkrävande i detta scenario.

Även när vi spelade The Witcher sjönk förbrukningen något trots samma eller till och med något bättre prestanda. Endast den teoretiska, tillfälliga maximala förbrukningen på 328 watt är nu högre.

Razer är med rätta stolta över sina nätaggregat, som ofta är mindre än jämförbara lösningar från generiska tredjepartstillverkare samtidigt som de levererar samma prestanda. Det medföljande 330-watts nätaggregatet är precis lagom stort för att absorbera toppbelastningar och har enligt Razer sparat cirka 60 procent i storlek jämfört med jämförbara lösningar. Faktum är att Razers nätaggregat är betydligt mindre än det 330-wattsaggregat som levereras med Dell G16 (2024), till exempel.

Razer Blade 16 är återigen en mycket framgångsrik bärbar speldator. Den är kompakt, tunn, men ändå kraftfull och har en högkvalitativ finish. Med sin snabba och vackra OLED-skärm har konfigurationerna berikats med ett vackert skärmalternativ.

Ägare till 2023-modellerna, som också har mycket bra Mini-LED-skärmar, har dock ingen anledning att uppgradera - prestandan har knappt förbättrats genom Raptor Lake Refresh och inga måste-ha-funktioner har lagts till i den här modellen.

Precis som sin föregångare är 2024 års version av Razer Blade 16 en mycket framgångsrik high-end gamer. Det finns dock knappast några skäl att uppgradera från sin nästan likvärdiga föregångare.
